Kira 451 Report post Posted February 7, 2009 2 years ago I didn't think it would be possible for me to have a greater man-love for someone than the man-love I had for Zetterberg, but Pavs has taken it to a new level. Unbelievable skills, ferocious 2-way play and a personality to die for. In a bizarre kind of way, the fact that his English isn't brilliant allows him to be even funnier - clearly the slightly geeky/awkward style works for him, and doing it in broken English makes it all the better. Sadly, the NHL and non-Detroit media haven't picked on him and his personality since they're too busy on their knees for Crosby and (to a lesser extent ) Ovechkin. Whilst searching for a Datsyuk quote, I came across an awesome one from Sammy *points at SIG* I think it's that awkward style that endears him to us...because you know it isn't really a put-on. It comes from the heart. It's the way he is, and it's just an absolutely endearing quality. This is not a guy with an ego, he's not a hot dog, he's just a really human person. When I get the chance to talk to him, he comes across as a very shy, soft-spoken fellow with a wicked sense of humor, if you really give him the chance to let it out. He's very humble, very appreciative of us fans...he's gracious and kind. It's just all those things that make him such a treasure. If the league wants to fawn over Crosby and Ovechkin, let them. We know what we have here.
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 I liked the interview he did with Mickey while he was sitting out the Columbus game. Mickey asked if he always liked to be tricky with the puck and says some coaches want him to "dangle, dangle" and some "not so much, dangle". Hilarious. Great interview. From the :50 mark. ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) I liked the interview he did with Mickey while he was sitting out the Columbus game. Mickey asked if he always liked to be tricky with the puck and says some coaches want him to "dangle, dangle" and some "not so much, dangle". Hilarious. Great interview. From the :50 mark. The best part of that interview was talking about Brett Hull, saying he had a good time with Brett yelling at him because he didn't speak any English. edit: also one of my favourites was a press conference from the SCF last year, him and Hank. A reporter asked a question and Pav had to say "Haaaank" under his breath for translation help. I'm too lazy to find that video lol Edited February 8, 2009 by ComradeWasabi

PenaltyShot 96 521 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 edit: also one of my favourites was a press conference from the SCF last year, him and Hank. A reporter asked a question and Pav had to say "Haaaank" under his breath for translation help. I'm too lazy to find that video lol Here's the full interview. He says "Hank" after the first question directed at him. His face after the second question is priceless too.
Guest Four Report post Posted February 9, 2009 Here's the full interview. He says "Hank" after the first question directed at him. His face after the second question is priceless too. Rofl it's like a "here we go again" face.. "Datsyuk, seemingly, has not changed at all since when he gave that first interview. He gets answers off easily, often adding hackneyed phrases like, "The best season is still to come" and, "We are a single team" and, "I am responsible for the team". When asked how he spent his birthday (Datsyuk's 30th birthday was on July 20), Datsyuk asks, "Do you think I'll reveal intimate details?" Pavel is good with jokes. He jokes rarely, but well. "The playoffs in the NHL is such a time when you are focused on one thing..." begins Datsyuk. And when the correspondent begins to answer, Datsyuk adds "...like whether or not it is Spring."" http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2008/08/da...eal_cup_to.html
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 hahaha, I forgot about that face. I also like how he had that timid look on his face as he said "Haaaank", but then he looked up brightly at the reporter as if it was absolutely his pleasure to answer the question. SDavis35 140 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 SO funny. Datsyuk has the greatest sense of humour, even if he wasn't really going for that in this video. the title of the vid says it all some awesome quotes here "I had my first experience playing golf! I was so good I sent the ground flying everywhere." - my favourite (comparable to my golf skills as well)

Casey 145 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 Dats is easily my favorite player in the NHL. I admire Cheli's toughness and grit, but Pavel's the complete package. Humor, determination, incredible skill, and an absolutely perfect humble humanity. He could be the most standoff-ish player out there. He could demand 10 million a year. He could demand trades and teams built around him, but he doesn't. He's a Red Wing through and through, and a true champion. God love ya, Pavel- see ya for about the next decade. Lancz 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 Best thread in a while, lots of laughs. As a kid Federov was my favorite but Pav has such great personality and is so entertaining to watch he's taken the #1 spot. Thanks to everyone who contributed

He came back with two. I could see in my mind that old couple in "Caddyshack", and I couldn't help but laugh. The nicest thing about all this is, it's honest...comes from the heart. No pretentiousness, no ego, no conceit. It's the real thing.
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 LMAO. My personal favorite was Chelios "Dick Butkus grrrrrrrrrrrrr". Quite a many of them look scared of the camera, or sleepy. Funny how many had Lidström as a favourite player and one or two also had Yzerman. Must be nice playing for Red Wings then.
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 From Titanium's link: "Pavel, you wear the 'A' on your jersey as a team leader. What does that mean to you?" "A lot. So much that I put an 'A' on all my clothes. I wear an 'A' everywhere."
titanium2 867 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 Found a great one: Pavel Datsyuk: “When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to drink a lot on Christmas and be drunk.” (Being Russian Orthodox, Datsyuk celebrates Christmas on Jan. 7.) http://alexovetjkin.blogspot.com/2007/12/h...ents-bruce.html
Mac is Back 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 I saw on Red Wings weekly tonight when they were talking about how you don't step on the winged wheel in the middle of the locker room carpet. The reporter made a joke, something to the effect of "So what happens if someone other than a player steps on the winged wheel?" Then the camera tilted down to show his shoes on the edge of the wheel. They then showed Datsyuk who said "Wanna go outside?" I just about died. HAHA, he also says, "you have good insurance? Want to try?"
FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 During one of the early season losses, the stupid reporters are clearly annoying him and a reporter asks something like "How come the team lost tonight?" Dats says, "We not score, is hard to win." Simple, elegant and tough to argue.
