Why is Datsyuk marginalized by the League?

1) The Red Wings game is a team-oriented approach and not the individual. No egos, no hot dogs, no conceit. It's team first, individuals second (a distant second at that)

2) Pasha is a humble, shy, soft-spoken fellow. Meet him and you will see that. He is unpretentious, and sweet. To tell you the truth, when you meet him off the ice, he's one of the gentlest souls. When he's on the ice, his game is intense. And he knows when to hit that internal switch.

3) Think of this: He plays his 500th game Friday night in Columbus. He's 7 points away from 500 career points. And by either the end of this season or early next, he will crack into the top ten of all time Red Wings scoring leaders, knocking out John Ogrodnick, and joining the likes of Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, Alex Delvecchio, Sergei Fedorov, Ted Lindsay, Brendan Shanahan, Nick Lidstrom, Reed Larson, and Norm Ullman. That, to me, is pretty heady company. Not bad for only seven seasons in the League.

If he flies under the NHL radar, that's okay. We know what a treasure we have in him, and we appreciate it. And in the end, when he carries that Stanley Cup again, we will know that every diss and every slight he suffered through was vindicated in the end.

As far as I am concerned in one year team Russia suppose to look pretty good with Datsyuk, Malkin, Ovechkin and all other guys in the lineup for the Olympics!

I think part of the problem why Dats isn't getting all media attention because Wings are generally pretty good team and it's very hard to stood out when you have Z, Hossa, Lids, Rafalski etc. guys.

I'm also really excited for the Russian team. Should be a lot of fun.

When considering the other part of your post, I disagree a little. Even though it may be difficult to stand out on a team like ours, I still think he does it. This season, at least.

Exactly. Who needs all that excess baggage when you want to concentrate on winning?

Agreed. And it's like someone else said here - that the Wings play like a team. And what a team!!!

Again...it's a credit to the management AND the players that even with all our hotshots/stars, nobody really stands out. THEY get the idea. Witness the all-star fiasco. I don't think our guys cared all that much that only two were singled out to go.

As for the Penguins and Crosby and Malkin, look where they are in the standings...Yeah, I know - if you put better players with Crosby, yada yada - but the point is the same. THE WINGS PLAY AS A TEAM AND THEY LOVE IT THAT WAY.

Didn't see this posted anywhere else, but Hossa was talking about how awesome Datsyuk is and said this which I found amusing:

"Most times he is like the Terminator when he goes through the glass," Hossa said. "He just moves through people."

Datsyuk = Terminator?

EDIT: Saw the article was already posted, but the quote wasn't.

You know what I like best about Pasha?

He's OURS! All ours! They can't have him. We got him. Ours, I say, all ours! Our plot to take over the world is going smoothly. Soon no one will doubt the Power of the Octopus! Mwahahahaha.

Ok, seriously, I love that he's a team player on a team with other guys who are like-minded. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts and all that.

Hakan Andersson compared Pavel to Igor Larionov but if I remember correctly, and correct me if I'm wrong, Mickey Redmond compared him to Valery Kharlamov:

Just an interesting comparison. Can't say I fully understand it.
