selkie 10 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 As much as I've come to flove Helm, I think Leino's got more offensive upside in the next 2-3 years. As for Calder criteria, NHL.com says: "To be eligible for the award, a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league. The player must not be older than 26 years before September 15 of the season in which he is eligible." http://www.nhl.com/trophies/calder.html
Wings_Rule_1010 4 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) Just got back from the game... Hossa is a freakin beast. Leino and Helm are amazing. And it was good to see Ozzie looking better too! You could obviously tell that Minnesota's gameplan was to shut down pavel and z. They were all over them. However, minnesota forgot that we have an amazing second and third line as well. And even a fourth liner scored. I swear you could hear laughter in the crowd after draper scored. Edited February 13, 2009 by Wings_Rule_1010
Jwo 7 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) Even if the Wings got blown out tonight. That was a fun game, it was my nephew (1/half yrs old) first game at the Joe. Edited February 13, 2009 by Jwo
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 OK that might have been the worst call I've seen all year - duo on Dats AND Hossa at the same time. lol It wouldn't be so funny except we outmatch the Wild so bad letting them have a free goal doesn't even matter. Love the energy - the Wings are fun to watch right now. Looking forward to a big game on Sunday (yeah I know Friday first) to beat my local team the Avs.
Vladifan 680 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 I don't know you, so I'm not sure why you think I'm not entitled to have an opinion on a hockey game goal. I'd like to see Osgood play better and make at least ONE OUTSTANDING save this year. Just so I can stop flinching every time there is a good shot on goal against him. Preventing goals is a team effort between a teams goalies and the defensemen (and the forwards), and I've seen Osgood use his stick much than he has this year. I thought he came up short. Feel free to not read my future posts if they upset you. Where did I say you weren't entitled to an opinion? Meanwhile, if you don't think people should disagree with you you're in the wrong venue. Especially about Ozzie. He has been the hot topic here for about, what....five years now? The subject has pretty much been done to death and some of us are up to HERE with it. So lotsa luck on that one. However, from now on I'll probably just agree in writing to posters like Electrophile who really pretty much said it for me. TheUkrainian 49 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Awesome game. Leino is amazing. I'm only dissapointed that my camera didn't take good enough photos from the 8th row of 208...I need a DSLR next time. So far the Wing's are 3-0 at the games that I've went to. (Ozzy played all of them)
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 I got called it, but judging from the score, shot count, and comments here, I'd say the Wings played a good game. Happy to see Oz have a strong outing and the defense limit the chances against -- two man advantage and Sammy's attempt at playing D, I can live with those goals. clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Osgood's rebound control was much better than it has been. He didnt face a lot of good shots, and only 2 goals against. This is what the Wings need to do to bring it in the playoffs. He still looked like a wee little out position over committing leprechaun most of the time and on the second goal he decided to go for a swim. But yeah, sure the glass is half full. But yeah, sure the glass is half full. He could have a shut out, and you people would praise the defense and say Osgood got lucky. He could have to stop six break-aways - and you guys would get mad at any of them that happened to squeak by him.. ignoring the fact that the defense made the huge blunder to begin with. Nothing Osgood does is going to make 90% of the people on this forum happy. He's not a top ten goaltender.. don't expect him to be. If that's what you want, go watch another team - like the Sharks or the Bruins. I'm not saying that he hasn't been inconsistent - he most certainly has. But holy christ - he played a consistent game tonight and he looked three legs better than he did last time he was in net. Give the man some ******* credit. Be a fan of your TEAM. Not JUST of winning. I swear, the fastest way to get LGW to hate you is to be a fan of your starting goaltender. Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 They are $5.75 at some in MI. False advertisement if you ask me. And they're $15.00 inside the Joe Louis Arena!
Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 I must say I was was impressed with Osgood. A solid performance. There was very little he could do on the first goal. I'm very disappointed with the piss-poor inconsistent officiating. The officiating is almost making me not be a hockey fan. It's a bummer that the real score should have been 4-1. When you put our freaking top line in the box all at the same time (when only one penalty is legit) that's just sad.

bonan78 1 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) Hudler,Filppula are really impressing me. Amen. They looked really good on the line together with Hossa. Yet another reason why I think it would be a mistake to let either of them go. Hudler's got so much more skill and creativity than I gave him credit for, good to see him gaining confidence and stepping into a featured role. And did you notice Filppula doing a Homer impression, screening the goalie on the power play. You can play him in just about any situation and he will give whatever it takes to help the team and his linemates succeed. Really looking forward to the day when they both hit their prime, could be the next dynamic duo, a slightly smaller version of the Eurotwins. digitaljohn88 4 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) If you scroll up, I was talking about Osgood making saves on breakaways/odd-man rushes. I was just looking for an excuse to post youtube highlights. He'll come through one of these games on a breakaway. He's got the skill... they don't save themselves in a shootout and he's done well there. Honestly I'd wait for another chance before burying him. As a goalie, those breaks directly behind your defense and across the net are TERRIBLE. You have to play the shot so you're already a step behind in going across after your man fails to hold him outside. I often curse my defense and think to myself that it would be easier if they just let him by at center for a clean break. I distinctly remember a game where our defense allowed three break-aways.. Ozzie saved two of them. And the one he let in - he was skinned alive for. The amount of ridicule he gets is absolutely uncalled for. To want your goalie to stop a break-away or odd-man rush is normal. To flame your goalie for not doing so is not. Anyway, just my two cents. I, obviously, was unhappy with the treatment of Ozzie. Edited February 13, 2009 by Ms_Hockey

After the cup run last year people were looking to name a street after him. Like they say the two best jobs in Detroit are the backup goalie for the Wings and backup QB for the Lions. I don't post on the Osgood bashing/goalie OMGWTF threads, I just want to see him play with more confidence. I distinctly remember a game where our defense allowed three break-aways.. I wish I could remember what game that was, I would like to see the saves. I agree, Osgood normally gets WAY too much blame, especially since the Wings defense has hung him out to dry on multiple nights. We should probably let this thread die before everyone thinks its a ohsweetjesustheskyisfallingwhereareourgoalies thread anywho.
