Hossa is worth over $8mm and Perry is worth every penny of his contract too.
Guest lnvincible Report post Posted February 12, 2009 Perry is like a modern day Claude Lemieux; plays some of his best hockey during the playoffs...A guy you'd like to have on your team, but hate him when he's wearing the opposition's sweater. Believe it or not , i used to play road hockey with Perry aha

He is worth every bit what was paid and more. Not only does he work his arse off every night but I've read plenty of articles that say he is a great guy and the players love him. I will disagree with the statement about Perry as well. He is a pain in the ass to play against and thats what makes him great. He does it all and would benefit any team. I for one would love to have Perry in Detroit... I'd even trade Franzen for Perry because he brings some grit and energy that we could use as well he can score and agitate. You'd trade a 23 year old whos career highs in goals and points are both more than Franzens, whos 7 years older? How generous of you.

How generous of you. They are both about to make around the same amount of money, that was the main thought that I had. I didn't check how old they were... obviously youth is on Perry's side but its not like Franzen is a useless old geezer. I personally think that Franzen has the better skill set over Perry. Perry has an edge to his game that Franzen does not and thats why i would prefer Perry over Franzen. I wasn't suggesting this trade was even possible only that I'd be happy if it were to happen. Perry is better than Franzen in every way, and has a much better skill set than Franzen. The only thing Franzen has on Perry is defense, but that could come in time with Perry. And theres no way Franzen will see over 5M on the open market, let alone anything close to that from the Wings.

I beg to differ. Maybe Franzen won't over 5 Mill on the open market but he sure will make close to. How much did they offer to Penner, who was not as good then as Franzen is now, and has since shown to be completely useless. Franzen is way better then him right now. C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 I freaking hate Corey Perry...but that number sounds about right for him to be honest. As for Hossa, the facts say that at least three NHL GMs (Detroit, Pittsburgh, Edmonton) were willing to pay him what he's getting per year. Like my dad always said when I'd brag about Beckett's appraisal of my sports card collection, "it's only worth what someone's willing to pay for it." $10 million: Heatley $9 million: Crosby, Ovechkin $8.6 million: Sundin $8.5 million: Kiprusoff $8 million: Briere, Gomez, Spezza, Timonen, Vanek (these are 08-09 salaries, not cap hits, but I still think it makes my point) Given that list, I'd say any of our top four are worth 8-8.5, especially looking at the giant ball of mediocre most of those guys have been this year. AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 Wow, if those numbers above are correct, there are a lot of overpaid players in the NHL.
Mors 201 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 No interest in ever seeing Perry in a Wings' jersey, not that it would ever happen...but man what a ******. YOU'RE GONNA GET IT! OH NOES.

You can beg all you want - Franzen won't get that kind of money. 4.5 is his max out point, and comparing Franzen's future contract to Penner's is useless. Penner signed an offer-sheet. The very nature of the offer-sheet is to place a player outside of his current GM's market, i.e. overpaying. And yes, Franzen is better than Penner, but not even close to Perry. And for the record, I hate Perry, and in general any dude who looks like his stuck in a prepubescent stage. But he is better than Franzen in nearly every regard.
