haha, I actually quoted the wrong person anyways. It's fixed now.

The guys claims to KNOW that Hossa will demand atleast 8million. Hmmm, doesn't seem like much of a discount that he's talking about taking now?

I'm not going to go overboard on finding quotes proving such. Also not going to say they can eat their crow just yet but it's looking like that will be the case. And after countless times being shot down and treated like an idiot for thinking of such "impossibilities" it's going to be pretty sweet to sit there and watch them eat it.

Winning is contagious, as is being part of the classiest organizations in all sports. It's no wonder Hossa and everybody else on the team wants to be a part of it and is willing to do what it takes to remain on it.

I might end up being pretty "right on" just a million wrong ;)

Notice I fixed the quote. I accidentally first quoted you which is what ben what referring to.

After fixing the quote it was actually ChrisDetroit who said he would demand 8million plus.

Regardless, I'm with dallas27. I've been saying that Hossa will gladly take another paycut to stay long term in Detroit but SO many people either never THOUGHT he would come back or simply didn't WANT him to come back. Now everyone seems to have jumped on the bandwagon. As he said, it would be nice to quote everything everyone has said to doubt us and Hossa signing but truthfully, Hossa signing long term will be gratitude enough for me!

I have to tell you that I have followed many teams(4) with Hossa, but this is very different. It's the first time Marian is saying those things, the first time that he is really really happy and the first time he got to choose where he wants to be/play. Just like Marian I too see that this an unbelievable organization. Not to mention the real fans who are with the team no matter what right ? I really hope very much that he will sign, because I love everything about the Red Wings. :)

This all makes up for those rough years in the 80's. I was in high school in the 80's and wearing a Winged wheel jersey those days were rough.

But it was all worth the last 19 years. Watching players like Hossa actually take a significant discount to remain a Wing is amazing. All it took was what 6 months in the org and he is smart enough to realize that this is the place to be.

Hah!!

Soon players will start bidding to get on this team.

Luongo" well I know that I've been offered 10 million a year but I will ask Ken Holland if he can squeeze me in for the league min and some tasty pizzas."

Crosby" I know I can't crack the top 2 lines but if I take a significant discount and really practice maybe i'll have a shot."

LOL

to be followed by Holland saying, "Get off my lawn you brat! Run home to your mommy!"

and YOU should be slapped by even mentioning Cindy's name with the Wings!!!

As much as I love Franzen, part of me can't help but think Dustin Penner. He cannot carry a team on his back like Hossa did early in the season. He's not in the same league.

As far as Hossa goes, just cause he's stated he'll take a discount, doesn't mean he's gonna settle for a couple pizzas and some loose change. He going to have take significantly less than market value and ultimately those numbers might not meet up.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I lurk other teams boards when I have spare time, I've read a lot of other team 'fans' complain about Red Wings' "border line illegal tactic" to signing Zetterberg (and now Hossa) for $6 mil cap hit. They are complaining and think NHL should put the stops to such salary structures immediately!

I guess what Holland and Detroit does should be stopped

After Holland gets this (and Franz) done, Holland may have a target on his by some loony hockey fan of another team. :scared:

I have already mentioned Mary Buttman putting a Detroit Clause in the new CBA NOT allowing players to sign (especially in Detroit) for less than they are worth! (a figure that he will determine) So when a player goes to sign here for $6 million, he is worth more, but if that player wants to sign in, oh, lets say, Pittsburgh or Anaheim he is only worth $5.9 million so $6 million is all of a sudden fine.

Funny, Ken Holland and Mike Illitch are doing EXACTLY what this salary cap was meant to do, keep salaries down and allow smaller market teams a chance at big name players. Holland is playing the NHL's game to a tee, yet the NHL STILL treats Detroit like crap and like they are illigitimate step children! Get it through your head Buttman, The Wings are not only the model organization in the NHL, but in all of Sports! You should give up your evil campaign against us, we'll win either way!

I also remember mentioning how this could get done by signing Hossa and Fanzen, then trading Filppula and letting Hudler test the water. I was called dillusional, hmmmmm, with all the talk about Hossa AND Franzen, it looks like Hudler may be the odd man out. :yahoo: (sorry, couldn't hlold that in)

i almost am shocked hearing that Hossa is willing to take less money to be here; not that i think he's not a classy guy, but i just feel like the Wings have hit the lottery with this guy.

and to think that Ken Holland is working on keeping Franzen anddd Hossa - that's the right move to me. as much as i reallly really really like Hudler, if it comes down to it.... he needs to go.

as for Sammuelson staying.....lol.

good article, i never said he said he wouldn't stay but i figured it was a 1 year deal, if he signs and it looks like he will (but he hasn't yet) i will be happy as hell love the way the guy has been playing and from what i have read he fits the organisation perfectly on the ice and in the locker room, but tbh i would take hudler over franzen not sure why just something about franz does not sit well with me, can not put my finger on it. but i would have hoss as first priority for sure.

I am of the thought that signing Hossa would be great. If that happens I would prefer to see them do everything possible to keep Huds, Sammy and Flip here too and let Franzen walk. If the cap lowers they could always move Flip then if needed. Sammy brings to much for his 1.2 which I am hoping he stays at or even takes a small discount to stay. I like Huds/Flip/Sammy over a Franzen any day of the week, besides it leaves more of last years cup team in tact which means more guys in the locker room who knows the commitment and have been there before. That's just me though.

I agree that we could be in salary cap hell with a bunch of aging players still with a big cap hit, however - I'm also of the opinion that we must take advantage of the loaded roster we are blessed with at the minute.

Well here's the thing about that. If we look at 1990-1991, what was a "huge" salary then and what it would be now (Gretzky made the most at 3mil/yr, Lemieux next at 2.1), I think we'll find that the same thing will happen 12 years down the road and the 6mil/yr for each of them won't be such a big deal. Given that we (North America) will come out of this economic slump at some point and a modest rate of growth/inflation will ensue over the next 10-12 years, their salaries may be perfectly in line with their declining production for that year. Giving a superstar 3mil/yr a few years ago seemed HUGE! Now it is middle of the road, and I'm very confident that KennyGodHolland has consulted with more than a few financial analysts as to how a 6mil/yr contract will look on the cap 12 years from now. Who's to say we won't be dealing with team Caps of 80 or 90mil/yr in 12 years time? Can you honestly see the price of everything DECLINING over the next 12 years? Will gas be 50 cents/gallon? Will a loaf of bread cost 20cents? I highly doubt it. When I was in high school 15 years ago a can of pop was 50cents, now it costs 1.25$; more than double the cost back then.

Just hearing a top-tier professional athlete say "I'll take less" is amazing to me.

When was the last time that happened in any other sport?

And herein lies the crux of the class of the Wings' organization. It's just one more example of how morally and athletically they're elite.

There's Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Ron Artest, Roger Clements, Sean Avery, the New York Yankees, Al Davis, the Steinbrenners, Brian Burke, Mark McGwire, Pierre (?) LeCroix and all the other me-first, money-grubbing, steroid-using "pros". I'm guessing we could each make up a list of those we think fit that category.

On the other hand, we have Mike Ilitch, Kenny Holland, Steve Yzerman, the scouts and the players for the Deeeetroit Red Wings.

I'm so grateful I fell into loving and idolzing this team and I will continue to genuflect in their general direction. :notworthy:

Franz & Hossa

Trade Filppula for a 2nd rounder, see if Hudler gets an offer for $2.6 - $3.9 and collect our 1st and 3rd. (if he nets $4 million, we'll get a 1st, 2nd & 3rd!)

not unless Hudler sees the master plan a re-signs for a VERY modest raise.

Who will be center on the 2nd line if we lose Hudler and Filppula? Franzen? Draper? Helm?
