GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 I'm there with you. The next question would be how many picks or prospects is our peace of mind worth? I don't know how accurate the report is, but someone in another thread mentioned the asking price for Havelid might be Cory Emmerton and a draft pick. LeftWinger 5,132 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 My guts right now: Neil for a couple of high draft picks (second round 2009, third round 2010,) Havelid for a D prospect (Smith?). This could change with the trades the other teams in the conference make. that could make sense considering if Hudler signs elsewhere we'll get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd right back (if he tops $4M.) xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Also Havelid makes 2.7m a year.. Sammy 1.2 - Lebda 650k - Meech 483k That alone would clear up 2.2m in space.. prorated throughout the season, we might have enough room for Havelid then.. But isn't that alot of money to pay your D? Depth from atlanta would be more along the lines of Exelby for 1.4. I wouldn't mind trading Sammy for Armer or Exelby + Prospect/Late Pick straight up.. But i like Sammies agitating qualities.. He isn't an Ott/Avery agitator.. but he seems to get under players skin quite easily. We could eat Neil's salary if we added a Lebda or Meech into the mix, Since contracts would be pro-rated. I wouldn't mind doing Meech and a prospect or Meech and a 4th..
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 I think it could very well work out this way: The Wings pretty much need to trade Brett Lebda by the start of next season due to cap management. I've dealt with this in other threads. So the Wings trade Lebda and if necessary a low pick to Atlanta for Havelid. Havelid takes a spot with Lilja on the third pair for a solid shut-down pairing, and can be replaced by Ericsson next season. Detroit gets a veteran defenseman who is about to be UFA, and Atlanta gets a speedy young defender who is signed for under $1m through next season who has Cup experience, plus the ability to re-sign Havelid in the summer if Havelid wishes to return to Atlanta. xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 ok ok ok Im sure it might be a inside thing.....E11????? Eklund from hockeybuzz.com used e1 - e2 - e3 - e4 - e5 for the validity of his rumors/possible trades.. so an E11 is just making fun of eklund.
Mark B 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 We'll land Chris Neil at the trade deadline. Before the dead line, everyone knew we were targetting Brad Stuart.. and to this day, it seems like the only player thats even being talked about for Detroit is Chris Neil.. We cant give up a 2nd rounder, so im guessing a 3rd and a prospect? or just a prospect straight up.. It would be a huge boost to our 4th line.. Come playoffs we could do alot of things. Chirping, Energy Malts - Drapes - Neil Hitting, Energy Kopecky - Drapes - Neil Skilled, Energy Leino - Kopecky - Neil Hahah i tottaly used Kopecky and Skill in the same sentance.. harsh.. It's my gut feeling, Anyone else have gut feelings on who we might grab? I'm also thinking Kari Lethonen. Everyone is counting him out, being made of glass. But he came into the league with high expectations on a crap team, Detroit would ground him, not work him to death.. I think we could pull it off.. The salary would be the bug-a-boo. Anyone feel similar? or not at all I would love to get Neil & I don't really think we would have to give up a lot, least I would hope not.He would bring alot of Energy not only to his line, but to the whole team.So yes I like your gut feeling. Kari Lethonen I don't know what he would cost us,is he still under contract? and would he be an upgrade to Osgood?

Glubki 17 Report post Posted February 27, 2009 One of the guys at RWC posted a link to an MLIVE blog that Detroit has scouts at the Thrashers vs. Caps game - that is two Thrashers games in a row... http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/02/wi...ing_thrash.html
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 27, 2009 It has to be Nic Havelid, which would be a terrific deadline addition.

ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted February 27, 2009 I would bet a lot in thinking we are going defense. There is such a log jam on fowards that we can't really get rid of anyone. Maltby/Draper would have no chance of trade, Kopecky has been playing much better with youth. You have Helm a proven playoff player, and Leino pretty much proving himself now so they can't send him down. Then everyone else on the other lines is a scorer or has a style already established. As is in the foward dept. we have enough of everything and 2 people will probably already be sitting at a time. Our goaltending really could use help but I don't see them really doing anything with the contracts of the tenders that are being talked about; plus Ken said he wasn't getting a goalie. Lastly our defense is the only other thing that could really be improved. Granted we have 5 stable dman and our #5 Lilja has been playing amazing this season. So all we really need is a #6, face it we don't trust Chelios and really no need for Lebda/Meech. So I would think a trade would involve either if not both plus some picks to get a depth defender. Blueliner 69 Report post Posted February 27, 2009 I don't think it's usually a winning team's "style" to deal roster players at all, being that they're winning and are more likely to deal futures for rental players instead. Kenny's a bit reluctant I think, for sure, lending to his loyal nature, but it sure isn't beneath him. Just look at Pittsburgh. They gave up everyone for Hossa and Dupuis and were only able to keep Dupuis.
