Guest NumbaSixty-Six Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Zach Parise has had a breakout year and is on fire. He passed up Datsyuk's 75 points. I think he is probably just as good as anyone else in the league.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 (edited) He's definitely underrated, though I'll throw the whole "eastern conference" argument out there because I'm an *******. Edit: No, really, it's just to get it out of the way. Parise is definitely a player that should be getting more discussion. kozac 10 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 I brought this up before, saying that if you want to go by stats, he is as good as Datsyuk but I was quickly shot down with the whole homerish "Parise has more ice time and PP time" argument. I live in NJ and see the Devils a lot on TV and live, and I have to say that he is the hardest working player in the league from what I've seen. Yes, he works harder than Datsyuk, or at least he makes it seem so. He brings it every single night and every single shift. He is probably less talented than Datsyuk in certain aspects of the game (but then again you can say that about anybody), but his hard work certainly makes up for it. On a related note, with Brodeur back and looking better than ever I think the Devils are serious contenders for the Stanley cup this year. If they land a high profile defenseman who can man their power play at the deadline (Kaberle or something) then you won't see any holes in their lineup all the way down. CopenhagenWing 38 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 On a related note, with Brodeur back.. And well rested... In the past couple of years, to me Brodeur has looked worn out during the playoffs due to his 65-70 starts every year. A healthy, rested Brodeur is a scary thought. cnot19 191 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Zach has a nose for the net and is always willing to do whatever it takes to score. He is not as strong on the puck as Datsyuk and not as good a passer. I wouldnt say he is as good as them yet but he works extremely hard
The Mule 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Parise is the man.
KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Parise is awesome, but if you're looking at all-around ability, I'd much rather have Datsyuk/Z/Hossa (if that's the big 3 you're talking about)
TheDatsyukDangle 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Parise is my boy, always have liked him. I was fortunate to snag him with picks around 85 in a few of my fantasy hockey leagues. I don't think he is a better player than Dats tho- Dats is just too good defensively and has the same scoring touch as Parise. That being said, if NJ keeps playing the way they have, I would not be surprised to see them in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Fingercots 6 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 I do wonder about how Parise will follow up this season. A few years back, Brian Gionta had a "break-out" year and hasn't been that impressive since that season. Will Parise continue to get better or will he never again match his perfomance from this season?

I am talking about the NHL "Big 3", Malkin/Ovechkin/Crosby and don't give me that s*** about their overrated compared to Datsyuk either. It looks like this Year Malkin is going to run away with the scoring title so that would mean that in the last 3 years Crosby/Ovechkin/Malkin all won the title. Hmm, what did Malkin and Crosby do when they matched up against the DRW "Big 2" in the finals? Datsyuk/Z = 3 Cups and a Conn Smythe between the two of them. Crosby + Malkin + Ovechkin = 0 Hope you enjoy Malkin's scoring title parade in downtown Pittsburgh this summer. Jim Kelly was a pretty good QB, too. Who would you rather have, him or Big Ben? Chaaaampionship. Edited March 2, 2009 by KronwallCRUNCH

How many points does Zetterberg have? Pure homer.
Carman 387 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Lmao, Zetterberg isn't on the same level as Ovie/Crosby/Parise/Dats/Malkin. I don't see how you can be so misconstrued. With that said the Stanley Cup is won through depth and experience. Period.

KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Datsyuk and Zetterberg are 10 years older? How many scoring titles do those players have? How many points does Zetterberg have? Pure homer. They're older, but haven't been in the league 10 years longer. But I wouldn't expect you to know that. Pitt had their shot to win a Cup last year, well, not really...but they were in the finals. Zetterberg played in his finals, and Crosby/Malkin played in theirs; who won the Conn Smythe? Count the rings. Now, your mighty "Big 2" are barely sniffing the playoffs while Datsyuk, Z, and Hossa are 3 pts out of first place. Coincedence? I think not. And if you want to talk about "Big 3's" how about the "Big 4?" I'd say Lidstrom deserves to be in that conversation, too. Enjoy the long offseason! Seriously though, let me know about that Malkin parade and I'll tell you when the Stanley Cup parade is here...In case you missed it last summer.
Carman 387 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Player =/ Team Zetterberg didn't single-handedly shut down Pittsburgh. Our experience, and depth absolutely dwarfed Pittsburgh. And just in case you forgot it's a team sport. This thread is about specific players, keep it that way. I'll say it again, THIS SEASON. 1. Malkin 2. Ovie 3. Dats 4. Parise 5. Crosby

Seriously though, he/she's opinion is difficult to take seriously. He passed up Datsyuk's 75 points. I think he is probably just as good as anyone else in the league. Doesn't mention his defensive game, checking, speed, grit, etc. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are 10 years older? How many scoring titles do those players have? How many points does Zetterberg have? Pure homer. Only point he/she can raise is scoring titles and numbers. He has 30% more assists than he does goals. So shove that up your ass. Again pure numbers. Nothing about JT being compared to Bossy. Nothing about him breaking Gretzky's record for goal scoring as a 16yo. Nothing about his obscene goal sense and shooting ability. All because he/she doesn't know. Uneducated opinions. Can't respect any of his/her posts.
