seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 And yet again, Bruce Garrioch is full of s***. He said Backström was looking for 6 mil a year and the Wild weren't going to offer it to him.
kylee 727 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 the Wild needed this, they are very smart to re-sign him so he cant test the waters in july. good signing
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Good signing for the Wild, although I'd have liked to see him as a Cap.
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Of course a goalie like that should get at least 6 million per year.
rage 24 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Wow. Good for them. I'm glad we don't have $6 wrapped up into a goalie for the next 4 years though.
DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Great signing by the Wild. This at least guarantees they'll be able to stick with teams for atleast 4 more years. Backstrom is a phenomenal goalie!
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Very good move on Backstrom's behalf. His skillset is a perfect fit behind Minny's defense-first system and he'll likely have continued success there that will easily justify the 6m/yr. And because of that, it's also a good deal for Minny.
ruarc' 2 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Now, what to do with Harding?
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Now, what to do with Harding? Get someone on the wing who can score without breaking in half, maybe.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 I personally wonder if Minnesota needs to pay that much for a goalie considering the solid defense they have, but at the same time I understand why they'd want to keep him no matter the price. I don't know how much cap space they have, but if they can acquire some firepower up front during the off-season they'll be a dangerous team next season. SweWings 45 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Obvious move for both parties and considering his qualities and the current market and comparable contracts the length and size of the deal is reasonable.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Good for the Wild. They lock up their goaltender for 4 years and can now move Harding. Lots of talent in that kid, hes young, and shouldnt cost too much. He'll be a great trade asset pre-deadline or post playoffs.
miller76 463 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Alert the media. Doug Risebrough finally retained one of their many talented players and paid him. I figured he would have let him walk like the others for little or nothing in return. Maybe I am just a little jealous. Backstrom is such a good goaltender. The Wild need to find someone now that can shoot the puck!
