Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 I guess I'm the only one that found the Downey fight to actually be quite boring... I kept waiting for some big punches and connections and they never came. Eh? Well Downey has had shorter fights, that's for sure:
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Always hard to tell how many legit punches were landed, but I spotted a fair few. Excellent scrap, just what I wanted to see from Aaron.
Inultus 12 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 I wonder if there any vids of Tony Twist fighting... Yeah, you can find a few on hockeyfights.com Anyway, it was awesome to see Downey go, and it was an awesome, long fight. For the OP, the guy at hockeyfights said this was a Fight of the Year candidate, not the Fight of the Year. I would agree.
ENFORCER 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Downey, Janssen Provide Memorable Meeting hockeyfights.com Mar 04, 2009 12:17 AM John Chandler0 Comments After Andreas Lilja was dropped and given a concussion courtesy of Shea Weber over the weekend, the Red Wings opted to recall Aaron Downey from Grand Rapids of the AHL Monday afternoon in order to add the toughness that the team had been lacking ever since Darren McCarty was forced to undergo surgery earlier this season. Downey’s stay up with the big club may only be temporary, but he has done his best to earn a permanent spot on the roster so far. On Tuesday night, Downey dropped the gloves with Blues tough guy Cam Janssen, and the two produced an easy “Fight of the Year” candidate. Numerous punches were thrown by both fighters in a marathon bout, and even though Janssen may have come away with the decision, Downey’s Wings went on to win the game 5-0. In other action last night, Weber fought once again, this time taking on Jason Strudwick in another good fight in Oilers-Predators, and Krys Barch and Brad Staubitz clashed for the first time since the minors in Stars-Sharks. Eric Godard and David Koci also exchanged blows in a heavyweight bout in Pens-Bolts, and Jason Spezza went after Dion Phaneuf for a questionable hit on Dany Heatley in Flames-Sens. A total of six fights occurred. Deadline Day 2009 Whether you're pro or anti-enforcer on this board... Last night was the most entertaining , playoff type, game of the year imo. Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Right from the drop of the first puck the boys were more aggressive, more physical and more willing to get dirty than they normally are. The theory isn't bulls***. It's absolutely true. That when you have a tough guy(s) on your bench, everybody's chest sticks out a little further. Everybody feels just a little bit taller, a little bit tougher. And we steamroll the 2nd hottest team in the league. No place for a fighter on the Wings? Yeah right, WTF ever. Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) Someone replaced that man's arm with a jackhammer! I remember that fight. Twist actually broke a bone in Ray's face. I had an extended version of this on tape a few years ago and in the box, you can see Ray wincing and scrunching one side of his face as something is obviously not right. Twist was biggest puncher I had seen since Joey Kocur. Only thing was Twist was quick like Brashear and so freaking strong it was almost impossible to stop him from throwing. Unfortunately he wasn't a code follower and would continue to pound guys who were down. Which is why these 2 fights are some of my favorites as Twist gets bloodied and pwned in both. against Francois Leroux against Bill Huard who just lands 2 flush punches and down goes Twist Edited March 4, 2009 by GordieSid&Ted
Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Eh? Well Downey has had shorter fights, that's for sure: That has always been one of my favorite fights. It cracks me up every time because Downey doesn't even seem surprised or anything that he dropped him with one punch and then just casually and nonchalantly turns and skates to the box. Great show.
