I just do not understand the line up. It looks like Datsyuk-Sammy-Mule, and Hank-Kopecky-Cleary..

Babcock just better put Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Cleary and change the line combos. Lines right now look ugly and no intense.

I saw Hank out there with Maltby a few times too. I know Babs want to try different combinations for the playoffs, but this is ridiculous.

I'd like to see him put what firepower we have together on the top 2 lines for the 2nd, we sure need it to get through the BJ-wall of boringness.

What do you mean by it being "strange and inconsistent"? Columbus is just the flavor of the year in that regard. Edmonton, Nashville, Calgary, Anaheim, New Jersey (all in the past)....Mediocre teams with a smart coach and good goaltender have been employing this for years. In fact, if it weren't for the Wings offense, I'd be very apprehensive about them even getting out of the round when facing a team like this. Fortunately, the Wings are incredibly well-equipped when healthy and motivated to beat these boring, defensive, goaltender-reliant teams.

That's a pretty fair assessment of the situation.

It's not that the CBJ suck really, if they played in the East the would likely be the 4 seed. But Detroit can't go out and just show up and expect to beat teams like Columbus anymore.

A healthy Hossa, Mule and Homer would be nice. But I'd love to see a Helm - Leino - Abdelkader line anytime

I like Babcock, and I think he *could* go down in history as one of the best coaches in the game if he sticks with it long enough, but hes more of a Bowman wannabe with the line combos he comes pulls out sometimes. Its not so much that he puts out crazy line combos - but its that he takes way too long to change things when his "experiments" clearly aren't working. Sammy has looked terrible playing with Datsyuk since Hossa's been hurt, yet hes really taking his time making a switch. Same thing with Kopay on the top line earlier in the season - he looked good there for about 2 periods, yet he stayed on that line for a good 5 games before Babs decided it wasnt working. And in the time he took to change it, that lines ineffectiveness was costing us.

Yeah, I totally agree.

His affinity for Sammy still frustrates me, too. I would like him so much more if he were a solid third-liner who contributed every five games or so. But he takes up so much ice time and makes so many stupid decisions, it's hard to get excited when he scores a goal once every 7,500 shots. I honestly groan when he does score, because it means Babcock can use it to give him more ice time. Blah.
