Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 After another beat down, I think it is time that our Captains step up and have a closed door meeting with the team!! 18 goals in 4 games IS NOT REDWING Hockey!! We have gotten lucky alot this year for the simple fact we can score goals, but it is time this team realizes that it cannot simply just throw the jersey on the ice and win games! It does not take a genius to figure out that we have not played great this year at all, but I will say that if this team does not change the way they have played, we will be golfing in mid-april!! I could go and point out all of the issue we have to correct, but this post would turn into a five pager post! If anyone thinks that this team is just going to be able to "turn it on" in april, your kidding yourself!! Let me know what you all think!! Please vent!!! Pavrik Zettersyuk 4 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 The blowouts coming before the playoffs is 'fortunate.' It makes it crystal clear to them; they can't win playing like this, which is trying to score 5+ goals a game. The defense needs to play like it did against the last Sharks meeting, or the back to back; Blues/Aves.
RedStormRising 7 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 The defense AND the goaltending need to step up. You can't have one without the other...
detroitdan 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 I had a friend's birthday and was pissed that I was going to miss this game. I am extremely glad I didn't watch it.
Yzersyukstromberg 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Can't blame the 'tenders tonight. Sloppy play and stupid giveaways were the sole reason for the loss tonight. Nick, Hank, Pav and Kris need to get the boys together and set everyone on the same path...it's time for them to sharpen up their play and start playing playoff calibre hockey starting immediately, or it will be a short playoff run and a long golf season this summer. No need for that to happen with the calibre of team they have in that locker room. Time to get focused.
LidsFan 68 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 The team needs to go back to basics and start playing as a team and not just as a bunch of individuals trying to do it all by themselves. When they want to be, the Red Wings are the best team in the league. They just need to bring the same drive and passion that they have when playing elite teams to each game. Winged_Wheeler 3 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Lidstrom is lazy now, I think he's getting too old. Don't you see him make lazy ass plays by trying to throw the puck up the boards in the defensive zone? SKATE IT OUT
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Even tho we are in a race for the best record.....I think it's best were getting all this "Losing Big" stuff out of the way now!!!! We've got enough games left to get everyone on the same page and get ready for the playoffs....I just hope they get it together .....or this is gonna be a short playoffs run
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Meh, who knows what'll happen when the playoffs start in mid-April? Do I like last night's game and the last Saturday before that? No. Is it alarming that they both happened close to each other? Yeah. This team still is making the playoffs though without much trouble, and clunkers like these 2 are common for pretty much any team in an 80+ game season, but they aren't usually the norm thankfully. Guest mindfly Report post Posted March 8, 2009 I wonder why lidström never blast these kind of shots these days, he only shoot em on the ice or a few inches above for redirections etc, is he afraid to injure some players who are screening or what? Look at this beautyyy (game winner in the olympic final 2006)

Look at this beautyyy (game winner in the olympic final 2006) Your intelligent enough to know that it is 3 yrs later and he has been having issues with his elbow. More than certain he is still playing through it and will have it re-evaluated this summer.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted March 8, 2009 He didn't say it bothered him while shooting only when working down low in their own zone with one hand on the stick etc.... on a goalie like mason who goes down real fast and is big you just need to shoot em high just under the crossbar

Guest Shoreline Report post Posted March 8, 2009 I'm just hoping for some different results in the playoffs. Most other good teams are doing bad right now as well, and the Wings shouldn't be expected today to kick some ass every game.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 I think the Lidstrom Rafalski pairing is looking as terrible as it did earlier in the season when Babcock split them up. If it were up to me I'd go: Lidstrom-Ericsson Kronwall-Rafalski Stuart-Lilja That'd be my defensive pairing going into the playoffs. Someone would have to go on LTIR to shed the cap space for Ericsson, but having him play 17 games with Lidstrom would do a world of good for his development (and the change, and excitement of mentoring a promising young Swedish d-man might give Lids a bit of a boost). Alternately, because Lilja's injury isn't looking promising at all and you never want to rush recovery with a concussion, maybe they'll put Lilja on LTIR and we can look at these pairings: Lidstrom-Ericsson Kronwall-Rafalski Stuart-Chelios/Lebda Whatever the case, I'm tired of seeing Rafalski take his defensive duties less seriously and focus on the breakout pass instead of the safe play. It feels like he's taking for granted that Lidstrom can recover for him when he makes mistakes. Maybe that's why he was playing better split from Lidstrom?
