Playoff Seeding Predictions

Okay, so I've been thinking. There's a good 12~16 games left for every team in the league until playoff time. That time has come sooner than I had expected and it's been a great year supporting our Detroit Red Wings, the champions of last year but now it is time to focus more on defending that title because our Wings may only be considered champions for only a few more months and who knows when we'll have that bragging right again.

Anyways I want to know your predictions on who will get the 1st~8th spots of the playoffs for both conferences. There are still many teams that have been flying below the radar and can possibly get a playoff spot, especially on the West with only 2 points seperating the 8th and 12th spot.

So I was thinking, why not make a game out of it? If your prediction is perfect by the end of the season then you win, if not then whoever gets closest wins.

Also, one more thing. Make your predictions while there's at least a good 8~10 games left for most teams. I will not give credit to your prediction if you make it on the last few days.

Here's what I got :

Western Conference

1. Detroit Red Wings

2. San Jose Sharks

Well, at least we know that Detroit fans aren't the only homers out there.

Finals: Detroit over New Jersey in 6

Fixed :P

In all seriousness, I'd love to see an Osgood vs Brodeur battle in the finals, assuming Osgood is back in his usual playoff form. Their playoff stats with their respective clubs are nearly identical.

Brodeur career playoff stats with NJ:

.919 SV%

1.96 GAA

Osgood career playoff stats with DET:

.920 SV%

2.00 GAA

This is with both facing nearly equal average shots against and scoring chances against (only a slight advantage to NJ there). Both goalies play a similar style at the top of their game as well. Brodeur has a hybrid style and is known for a great glove hand. Osgood is basically a smaller Brodeur.

I find it hard to believe that the Blackhawks won't get the two more wins needed to make the playoffs according to this. They currently have 83 pts, so i'm assuming you just forgot them.

So much for that.

Well, we can now clinch it today. Just win today's game!!

And in the process, set a league record with a 9th straight 100 point season!!

GO WINGS!!!

For all the trouble the WIngs have had this year, I just checked the standings for the first time in a long time: The Wings could reasonably expect to finish as good and maybe even better than last year if they get hot in the final 12 or 13 games. Amazing.

Yes that means I think the Rangers aren't making the playoffs. They aren't that good anyway.

 Just call it how I see it! :P

If I had to pick between the Devils and Wings for the cup, I'd say the Devils. As of right now anyway

And I think that would be a good choice :P. It would be a great Finals, most definitely.

Would definitely be a great matchup...but I'd have to give the edge to us. For the first time in many years, we have an offense that can score and it's not all on MB30 to win these tight 1 goal games.

A 1995 SCF rematch would be great :D

It was that time that I first got into hockey, I was living in Michigan so it was pretty big. I remember playing NHL94 and playing as the Devils since they had an awesome logo and their stats were great :P Then I got into real hockey only to be upset by you guys in the finals! Two years later the Wings made up for it so it was all good, but man oh man I remember 95 like it was yesterday haha.

7. Montreal Canadiens

8. Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina will be best of the worst, as Buffalo is behind too many points and Florida already gave up a hugh lead in points which will cost them a play-off spot.

I see where you're getting with that... but come on now, the cats are only 3 pts under the canes with 2 more games in hand. I say they still got a chance :P
