Guest Shoreline Report post Posted March 17, 2009 As much as I love hockey, baseball was my first love sports-wise. Growing up on the North Side of Chicago, we went to a ton of Cubs games when I was young (even though no one in my house is a Cubs fan). Also, I signed up for MLB.TV about 3 years ago, when family finances were far different and I could afford it. It's automatically taken off my credit card every month, and I'm the one who makes payments on my credit card. If I could afford to pay for both sports, I would. Nice. A long friend of mine who I used to play basketball every day with for years was from Chicago. Damn did I ever razz him about his Cubs (who he long believed were cursed), and no less when Cheli went from his Hawks to the Wings which was a major insult to Hawks fans. Surprising how many fans hate the Wings as it is. But as for baseball, I stopped watching as soon as all that steroid stuff came to fruition and haven't watched a single game since Mark McGwire's (and others, but mostly his) circus in Congress. But as for baseball, I stopped watching as soon as all that steroid stuff came to fruition and haven't watched a single game since Mark McGwire's (and others, but mostly his) circus in Congress. I hate steroids as much as the next fan, but at some point you (not you, but a universal you) have to realize there have been drugs in baseball since the very beginning. I was watching a program on the history of drugs in America, and players back in the late 1800s were doing coke on the field. There have been one form of illegal drugs or another throughout the history of the sport, hell Hank Aaron used greenies. A lot of players in the 50s-80s used speed. Remember the Pittsburgh Pirates crack trial? Half the team had to testify against their dealer in court, Tim Raines even had a vial of crack in his back pocket during games and wouldn't slide feet first because he didn't want to break it. The s*** was everywhere. Steroids aren't the worst thing baseball players have used for a competitive edge. I'll love baseball no matter what. That doesn't mean I condone any of this because I don't, I think it's an absolute stain on the game. I think Selig is 60% responsible for the proliferation of steroids in baseball when he received memo after memo about it and sat on it until Congress forced him to intervene about a decade later. I'm convinced that if our economic situation was far better, Congress would have revoked their anti-trust exemption. That said, I can't turn my back on the game because some of the players chose to cheat. I'm sure if you shake the NHL hard enough, you'll find players fall out who weren't exactly squeaky-clean. /end off-topic

Vladifan 680 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 Listen, I love Broduer, but taking a game away from FSN and NOT FINISHING IT is bulls***. f*** Versus. This is what absolutely drives me nuts about network monopolies. Espn does the same thing. They cut to whatever they damn please and if you're watching the scheduled game, forget it. You're outta luck. There really ought to be an FCC law that says if you're going to do that you have to show the scheduled game SOMEwhere.

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 (edited) Who are the Versus announcers? Sounds like the Flyers or Hurricanes announcers. John Forslund, the FSN Carolina play by play man. Not too bad, although I can't stand it when he says "Insert goalie's name" says no!" after a save. Edited March 17, 2009 by Hockeytown0001
