What the Thrashers thought about Osgood tonight.

Oz made some really good saves early when it mattered and you could say he dominated in the 1st period.

The real diff recently is the wings, as a whole, have kicked it up a notch. Oz is now Oz - no better or worse than he's ever been now that the team in foront of him is playing hockey.

I agree about your first statement but your second is simply false. The first 3/4 of the season osgood was not playing well regardless of the team's performance. It can't be hidden. If it was true then Conklin would have been the only goalie with worse stats than Osgood.

Watch the game on tv and please return to shutting the f*** up.

Strange observations lately... Osgood supporters are WAY more low brow in their responses than any Osgood hater I have seen. What is that? Is there a drop in IQ once you become a staunch Osgood supporter?

You rarely see this:

Osgood supporter- Wow... Osgood was awesome tonight.

Osgood hater- Eat s*** and die you f***in loser.

Funny stuff...

I think it is unfair to post a general inquiry into the overall "awesomeness" of a player, and then have the masses turn on that individual when they openly share their opinion with us. This is a medium that should be shared amongst all of us to generate interesting conversation and not to belabor the point that our team is amazing. We get it. We would all rather read positive and rave reviews of our team - but sometimes we must be critical as well. Objectivity is important.

I thought Osgood was "solid". Solid in the fact that he has shown incredible improvement over the last week and is rounding into playoff shape. His first period effort was superb but I would be kidding myself if I thought what he did was remotely as impressive as his prior playoff runs.

Osgood has been a very good goaltender for well over a decade and ony receives a quarter of the respect that someone with his career deserves. That being said, he is not nearly as mentally tough the company he keeps. This has always been the criticism of his play. He far too easily rattled and often suffers lapses of concentration which leads to errors on his part and the occassional "soft" goal.

I think what is more important is that our defensive core looks to be solidifying and far more committed to providing Osgood with the support that he needs. What seperates the Wings and most teams, is not that they hit the opponent hard or stalwartly defend the blue line - is that they direct the pace and flow of the defensive end. They allow their opponents to take the shots they give them - low percentage. I would rather see Osgood face 35+ shots from the outside the circle, hugging the boards than see 10 shots directly in front of his. Positioning is imperative.

I saw the Wings commit to forcing their men in favorable angles and Osgood keeping his composure and positioning himself well - at least for two periods. Over the course of the next 10 games, if the Wings continue to focus on this and Osgood builds the confidence he needs - I will be far more comfortable than I am right now.

Well put!!!

I think the important thing to take away from the past week or so is that the entire team is suddenly getting more focused. Osgood has steadily been improving, the defense has been tighter, and the offense is exactly what we expected it to be the day Holland signed Hossa. Since the Columbus fiasco the Wings have averaged 4.3 goals per game. Including a 6 goal breakdown against Calgary (if you include the shootout goal), the Wings are averaging 2.5 goals against per game. That's a pretty comfortable margin.

Cause that is what he said.

No, he expressed his severe distaste for the moronic post he was quoting. Do you agree with the post he quoted?

I doesn't matter what the Thrashers thought of him.

It's what we here on LGW think of him, that really matters.

LOL

Almost every post that dares to criticize Osgood has been filed in the "moronic post" bin. God forbid anyone call Osgood on the sub-par season he has had. Nice spin attempt anyway. You almost had me convinced (not really though).
