Gerber gets tossed; CuJo turns back the clock

I'll set this up....

Leafs/Caps tied 1-1. Leafs score a powerplay goal with just over two minutes remaining to take a 2-1 lead.

Caps pull their goalie, then this happens:

Gerber was ejected from the game, Curtis Joseph came in and played like it was 1998. Robbed Ovechkin point-blank twice and stopped him to win the shootout.

I never saw the puck cross the line , but Gerber moved back into the net by himself with the puck underneath him, so it was possibly a goal. I think what the ref saw was a stick that was underneath Gerber. It look like the puck to me too until I watched it 5 times. Weird play. Also, it would be nice to see some CuJo footage from this game.

I thought he got tossed for shooting the puck at the ref?

he gave a little push to the ref and the linesman and then shot the puck at them. FANTASTIC. i was watching that game and when they announced that if the habs lost (this was when their game was 1-1) and the leafs won, they would be out of the playoffs by 6pts i have to admit i started getting pretty excited. and cujo?? in the words of pierre maguire: "incredulous."

Ovechkin once again demonstrated his sense of humour prior to the game, wearing a "Coach's Corner" t-shirt while kicking a soccer ball with teammates. It had the word "respect" written across the back.

Gerber automatically suspended three games; can be extended to up to 10 games upon review by Colin Campbell.

He deserves 10. That was completely unacceptable behaviour from an adult, let alone from a professional athlete.

I only caught the game from OT on. CuJo looked great out there, and the look on his face after he kept it even through the OT period was priceless. He looked like he won the lottery.

I don't care if there's a puck under me, nowhere near me, accidental, intentional or otherwise....somebody spears me in the twig and giggleberries, I'm not going to be very cheerful, either.

Anyways, Leafs have 8 games left...I figure that's what he'll get. CuJo can finish his career as a starter, even though he says he wants to keep playing.

My response was based on his firing a puck at the ref afterwords (at least according to TSN). I can understand how mad he was at the questionable call, but not shooting the puck at the ref.

I listened to the end of this game on the Leaf network and it was great.

Check the t-shirt.

Right, why give Pogge some more NHL starts to prepare him for next year? Ride the CuJo train to 9th in the conference!

CHUGGAchuggaCHUGGAchuggaCHUGGAchugga...WOO WOOO!!!

There's no guarantee that Pogge will be in the NHL next season. He hasn't been very good this year. And besides, they want him with the Marlies for their stretch run before the playoffs

Full game highlights, including Gerber ejection and CuJo's performance. They left out CuJo's save on Ovechkin with 10 seconds left in the 3rd.

Taken from:

Brooks Laich.

"It was under his far pad," said Laich. "At that point, I was just trying to crash the net, try anything. I was desperate. I was able to get it across the line."

Always good to see that the referees are always looking out the for the well-being of the goalies in the League.

Toronto play-by-play man Joe Bowen made sure the radio listening audience knew that the name of the referee who allowed the play to stand was Mike Leggo and hoped the League didn't give him any playoff assignments.

Also:

Three games.

Ugh that was the worst call ever. The only thought is that the ref saw/thought he saw the puck BEFORE the push. But you can't see the puck on any replay and Gerber was blatantly pushed in...a shame. Gerber's reaction was pretty acceptable in my view. Lest we forget Cujo (speaking of) tackling McGeogh some years back with no consequences?

Yeah but on that play, CuJo fell down and never intentionally did anything to McGeough.

I've always loved CuJo! I honestly would have tripped and "accidentally" headbutted leggo in the ******* face after that call, so IMO Gerber was somewhat composed given the amount of BS that he just endured. Kind of reminds me of the Flames game the other night when the refs turned their heads everytime we were tripped/slashed/hooked...or scored lol. Its a good thing Babcock is such a professional because I saw at certain points in that game where he looked like he was going to kill the refs.

It wasn't MUCH better in the Edmonton/Wings game either...same refs but I have a feeling that they got an earfull after the calgary game from SOMEONE....so they only made the obligatory calls. But c'mon...calgary take ONLY ONE penalty for an entire game? You know something was off there.
