No assist for Datsyuk?

When Filp scored his goal last night, I remember saying to myself that Datsyuk just extended his point scoring streak to 9 games and also gave my fantasy hockey team another assist for this week's semi final match up.

However this morning, I looked at both the yahoo and espn box scores and noticed they gave Franzen an assist along with Lidstrom.

The faceoff was won by Datsyuk, straight back to Lidstrom who fired a shot that deflected off a defenders leg and went right to Filp for the goal.

So Lidstrom and Dats should have been credited with the assists. I'm not upset at all because they got the win but it would have been nice for Datsyuk to be credited for what he earned.

I just looked at the video of Filppula's goal on NHL.com, and Franzen didnt touch it. I can see where they would think he did, but he didnt. That puck goes straight from Datsyuk to Lidstrom, with Flip banging home the rebound.

Pavs was robbed.

Its a mistake, Pavel extended his point streak. He won the faceoff straight back to Lidstrom whose shot found Val who potted the goal.

V. Filppula from N. Lidstrom + P. Datsyuk

Nope. According to every stats site I looked at - including NHL.com - he didnt get the point.

Seems like those are assists...

The one I keep noticing is Datsyuk's takeaways. He has been credited with far fewer takeaways this year, and I have not noticed a decline in them at all. I regularily count at least 2 to 3 clean takeaways by him a game, and sometimes as many as 7 - yet the official stats have him credited with slightly over one a game. It's a huge discrepency.

I can't find a clear enough angle to tell if Franzen tipped it or if it bounced off an Oiler. But it's definitely credited as if Franzen tipped it to Filppula, and usually mistakes like that are corrected by the next day if they are mistakes. As I said, I can't find a clear angle on it.

Does the NHL ever go back a day or two to correct statistics? I really wanted Pavs to get his 90th yesterday.

They already got it right the first time.

Franzen got a stick on the shot by Lidstrom.

I find it amazing that Pav didn't get any points last night. Some of the shifts he did were crazy, he was everywhere doing everything except scoring.

He's due for some easy points, Friday against Islanders could very well be a big night for him.

I'm pretty sure takeaways are recorded only by the home team, because each team determines what a takeaway is differently you get huge discrepancies.

He was on the ice for all 3 of the Wings goals and didn't get any assists. Stranger things have happened :)

I've seen it happen where a guy has dumped the puck in and gone to the bench for a line change, and due to mishandling by the other team the puck ended up in the net after he was on the bench, and he was credited with the goal.

Good one, score an even strength goal and dont get a +1.
