STANDINGS: Rangers in 1st

How late into the season were the Rangers still in 1st? Seems they went from 1st to 7th in record time.

Ottawa and Buffalo were so hot a couple of seasons ago, now they probably won't make the playoffs. Sheesh.

Montreal? Ouch.

Dallas? I'm sure they golf most of the year down there anyway so they really have nothing to look forward to.

Ryan Smith enjoying his time in Colorado? Can you for a second imagine the Colorado Detroit rivalry a few years back, then to have Detroit in last place now with Colorado in first! I'd be sick to my stomache.

Canuck games are like a box of chocolates. They're hot now, but who knows?

No wonder Hossa wanted to come to Detroit. The Wings have basically been 7-2-1 in every ten games. For years!. Man, are we lucky.

I don't remember the Rangers being in first for months now...in fact, weren't they out of a playoff spot for a week or so?

Yeah, that was written in a confusing way, but I remember that the Rangers were first in their division for half the season until everyone else caught up to them in games played.

It makes me nervous for next year though. If the Wings have a deep playoff run, then turn around and start the season in Europe, and come out of the gate in the same way they did this season..., it could be a tough going next season.

This thread confuses me. I thought New Jersey and Boston have been battling for the top spot in the East for the majority of the season...plus I thought the Avs have been near or at the bottom for a good portion of the season as well...

I don't pay any attention to the East - I thought NJ and Boston were in the same division until a few days ago! All those places are so congested close together I get confused who is where....like why are both NY teams in the same division?

Anyhow Boston clinched because their division sucks....kind of like San Jose. Heck the West Central might be the best division in the league (possible 4 PO teams) - who would have thought a few years ago? lol

It makes perfect sense to me! I agree with the original poster  , its amazing to just look at how much the standings can change in a relatively short time span.

The Rangers got out of the gate with a fury and were in first place for a relatively long time. Hell, at New Years they were first in the division. Now look at them. 7th in the conference.

Then take the wider time frame of a couple of seasons and look how much the standings have changed. Some teams looked to be on an upsing (Montreal, Buffalo) but then not to be. Look at how good Dallas was last year, and then this season...not so good.

But Detroit has remained consistant.

Thats all I'm saying...oops, I mean the original poster was saying. Oh fuggit, here's a link. http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle.html

Someone mentioned the thing with the Rangers. They start fast because whoever makes the schedule gives them a lot of games early on. So more games = more points, usually, and when the races are tighter earlier on, it means the Rangers are given an advantage and some people falsely assume they are kicking ass.
