DANTON TRANSFERRED TO CANADA, NOW ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE

TSN has learned that former NHL player Mike Danton, who has been serving time in a Federal prison in the United States, is back in Canada and could be a free man very shortly.

The Brampton, Ontario native, who pled guilty to "murder-for-hire" charges in November of 2004, served over four years of his seven and a half year sentence in prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey, was transferred to Kingston Penitentiary on March 19th.

Under Canadian law, Danton is now eligible for full parole.

A source has told TSN that Danton, who spent parts of three seasons playing for the St. Louis Blues and New Jersey Devils, is now seriously considering a return to professional hockey.

You know I know murder-for-hire is an absolutely awful crime, but the circumstances surrounding that whole situation seemed so shady, that I am rooting for the guy.

That said, 4+ years out of hockey is a very very long time, he has a lot going against him. I wonder who would take a chance on him with his crime and all the time out of hockey and conditioning.

Please Kenny, get it done.

He'd be a good influence on Kopecky.

Thankfully the Wings are too classy for a guy like that. No worries.

While I'll always take a guy with a clean record over one who redeemed themselves, I will always root for any attempt an individual makes to get his shattered life back on the right path.

No way any NHL team picks him up. He sucked 4 years ago didn't he? Do you think he got better in jail?

Better at something.. just doubt it's hockey.

While I would usually agree with you, this is a lot different than someone with a drug charge or robbery. This was attempted murder. I wouldn't root for OJ, even if he never finished the job.

Exactly.

Somebody's life could have ended because of this man? Sorry, not cool.

If all accusations were true, I'd have killed the guy myself, and I don't say that lightly. I'm quite protective of my family.

That said, I heard he met an "agent" in the Big House who'll make Kenny "an offer he can't refuse". :D

what a sad story. After hearing that Danton might get brought to Canada, I went back and read some of the history of this case. The fact that David Frost is not in jail right now is horrible. He was tried on multiple accounts of sexual assault, but was found not guilty. Here is the wikipedia page for David Frost, it explains alot of the history behind him and Mike Danton/Jefferson.
