The league has come to realize that by tightening the obstruction/interference rules teams like Pittsburgh will flourish.

In any event, the Wings took less minor penalties this year than last year. The primary reason for the Wings' troubles on defense was absolutely the Stanley Cup hangover.

With all due respect, I think they took lesser penalties because they were forced to. Because of the tightening of the rules hey had to, and did, back off defensively.

I believe the Wings' defensive woes were caused by a combination of the Stanley Cup hangover and the tightening of the obstruction/interference rules.
