Hitchcock says Wings' wingers cheat on face-offs

I've seen a lot of teams against the Wings have a winger jump, before the faceoff, and never get called. However, when the Wings, especially Draper, get a little agressive, they throw them out. Hopefully, the officals don't try to make a point of this, but most of the time that they do, they catch the other team doing something, so it usually works out.

Good point, in a way isn't he questioning the refs? I'm pretty sure criticizing the refs in other sports is an automatic fine. I guess it's sort of but sort of not criticizing the refs.

I don't understand why the league doesn't fine coaches for this crap. If he thinks there is cheating going on he should contact the league not the media.

Because he knows the Wings did nothing illegal. NHL'ers always push the legal limits on what you can and can't do on the ice. Like you said, if he feels the Wings did something illegal he should've contacted the league and kept the media out of it. This was just a blatant attempt to help his team not feel like they got outplayed.

Wow, only one game and already this crap starts. Bitchcock needs to stuff his fat face with Burger King and shut up. Your team got out played, it's not because the Wings cheated. How many penalties did your team get away with last night? Now you called attention to all of that. Have fun being on the PK all the time.

As many of you have already said, every coach of the team we play in the playoffs always seem to ***** when we win. What it does imo is instead of having the players/team focus and correct mistakes they made and trying to adjust, the team gets the impression that they were playing alright and if they continue to play that way they will win because we got away with cheating or got some calls. I also think this may be strategy by hitch to have the media focus on us cheating and take some of the spotlight off of Columbus.

The way I see it is he's questioning the integrity of the Wings, the Refs, and the League with this statement. It makes me angry to see a so called "professional" act this way. :ranting:

I'm a little surprised by this from a coach who took a team to the finals. I don't think I've ever seen a coach of this caliber pull up lame excuses like this............wait a minute, I forgot about Michelle last year, nevermind.

Kenny you can do better than this.

I realize I'm trolling here, but please don't make fun of Hitchcock's weight.

If you knew how it all started you would realize its no laughing matter.

He is sipping iced tea and talking about the worst day of his life -- the day he began to understand that his world was about to spin out of control -- and he can still see his dying father's eyes.

They are seared into his worst nightmares, feverish, black-rimmed, sightless.

"The eyes of death," he calls them.

I've always had alot of respect for Hitchcock and his success, so why does he decide to turn around and throw all that away because his wingers suck at anticipation? Look at the replay (someone else posted) and you can see that we're one step ahead, then after SEVERAL passes, we get the shot away.

I understand that it's difficult to win faceoffs on the road, and losing a faceoff forces you to chase, but don't go whining about it when there's a good 10 seconds between faceoff and goal. :ranting:

*sigh*

I have no idea if it's on youtube, but I have this gif:

Just right click, save and upload to your photobucket or flikr or something. :)

And to keep it on topic: I agree, lay off the weight jokes. That's just a cop-out insult and has nothing to do with anything. We're smarter than that.

Come on Ken, you're better than that! So face off "cheating" is this year's "obstruction"?

Up to this point I had some respect for what he's accomplished. But he's letting his desperation get ahead of his teaching skills, and that may be because he knows he just doesn't have the depth and talent available. But it does smack of a Therrien-type-chickens***-tactic. And that's pretty sad and I hope it comes back to bite him in his pudgy little butt.

Hitch...don't be a *****,

using that excuse is a sinch when in a pinch

We wont flinch-three more games till we clinch

This pettiness about cheating will create a media lynch

Call ahead to the golf course my fluffy friend, for when you fall down in the sand trap, to get you out -they'll need a winch.

Good stuff!

Hitchcock, as good as a coach he is has been doing this for years. Not as much in Dallas but he was complaining all the time while in Philly. Dallas was a powerhoue and he didn't need to worrry about playing games like this. With a weaker team he feels he can do this because he actually does get outplayed and needs to find points in the other teams game that hopefully the refs will crack down on even if they are phantom plays.

This is indeed a helluva'n article and I thank you for the perspective. It makes sense. And I think there are few of us here on this board who haven't gone through some bad times that haven't affected us negatively. I hope he gets to a point where he can be at peace with who he is.

Maybe he could wait till after this series, though? :satisfied:
