TheRedWingsWay 8 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Its not fair for me to predict who will win considering I hate the Ducks and I am a Wings fan since 97. But I will say this... - The longer the series goes, the nastier it will get. - Just like some people said...whoever wins this series will win the cup. - 1 player from each team will be taken out. - Pronger is going to be Pronger. - Hiller is going to struggle. - Osgood is going to struggle. - expect high scoring games. - bench clearing brawl? ander2ta 1 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 - Just like some people said...whoever wins this series will win the cup. I really don't think that this is true. I don't think that the Ducks have a shot... Detroit's 3rd line will be the leaders in this series and you'll see Flipper and Oompa scoring some big time goals. Hopefully Hossa wakes up too. tazzer82 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I haven't seen any of the games, but just from pics I've seen it looks like Hiller is down on his knees alot. It was mentioned that he is a butterfly goalie, so I say Homer, Mule and Clears get comfy in front of him and make it nice and difficult for him to see shots. Wouldn't want to see anything but a proper welcome from our boys to Hiller.

RE: bolded No way in hell, have you watched this Wings team in the last 5 years, no way in hell does this team have a bench clearing brawl. If they do I will crap my pants on camera and youtube it for all to see! Well maybe not but you get the idea!

egroen 384 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Bench clearing brawl? I hope not -- the Wings need to stay on their game. Play hard, dish out hits, and get back up and go again after a hit. if the Wings get off their game and start trying to play the Ducks' game this could be a very long series. SuperNovaXll 124 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 This wont be an easy series. Im going with: Game 1 : Ducks 3 Wings 1 Game 2: Wings 4 Ducks 2 Game 3 Ducks 4 Wings 3 Game 4 Wings 5 Ducks 3 Game 5 Wings 3 Ducks 0 Game 6 Wings 4 Ducks 3 I'm hoping the difference is Ducks taking lots of stupid penalties and the Wings cashing in on it. Vladifan 680 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Got a point with the down low angle: Wings always seem to have difficulty with big forwards cycling down low. Even against the Jackets it seemed BJs were most successful cycling down low with the line Torres was on. That makes me nervous. I know it won't probably make any difference but I feel I have to say it anyway. I do not like your avatar. It's really bothersome and I don't think it's at all funny, even if the kid is smiling. Peace out.
HkyTwn 5 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I feel ya! now the Ducks' no-glove-dropper can meet all of the Wings' no-glove-droppers. Intense! I am anticipating some major facewashes out of this one! I think I'll record the series and make a badass facewash/glovepunch comp video for youtube;) You know what? I think you should do that, regardless of whether or not it happened in this series. Then set it to like cheesy 90's boy band music or something. Hilarious!
Vladifan 680 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 The Getzlaf line was playing over 23 minutes a game against San Jose. For the Wings, Zetterberg is the only forward playing more than 18 minutes a game. That is indeed, a nice piece of stat. Thanks!

Vladifan 680 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Scoring depth is ridculously one-sided here. 6 Franzen (2nd line) 5 Cleary (2nd line) 4 Hossa (1st line) 4 Hudler (3rd line) 4 Holmstrom (1st line) 4 Zetterberg (2nd line) 3 Filppula (3rd line) VS. 8 Getzlaf (1st line) 4 Ryan (1st line) 4 Perry (1st line) 3 Miller (2nd line) Thanks again! * humming "(our) future's so bright I gotta wear shades"....*
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 pronger will no doubt spend a good amount of time in the penalty box in this series because he's slow....here's a prediction for game 1. 1st period pronger - 2 min for holding wings pp goal... 2nd period pronger - 2 min for hooking wings pp goal... 3rd period pronger - 2 min for hooking, 5 for boarding (probably on homer again), 10 min misconduct 3 game suspension for pronger as a repeat offender for hits to the head and overall dirty play and wings win in 4 pronger feels shame
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I haven't had the chance to read over this thread, but I assume getting to the net and creating havoc in front has been discussed extensively. Other than that, a massive key to this series will be winning defensive zone face-offs. Like him or not, Pronger's shot bit the Wings in the ass two playoff years ago and if they get their cycle going against the Wings D, it will cause problems. NFM's Key's to the Series: (1) Strong first passes out of the zone (better than what they did against CBJ) (2) Defensive Zone face-off wins (3) Strong play behind our own goal-line (Guys like Ericcson need to use their strength) (4) Create Havoc in front of Hiller (5) Depth Scoring (With Z likely to be matched up against the Getzlaf line, Pavel and Fil's line need to get pucks past Hiller)
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 What I see as the keys to the series: 1.) Can the Wings contain the Getzlaf line? 2.) Can the Wings (especially Homer, Mule, and Cleary) disrupt Hiller? 3.) Can Ozzie continue his strong play and at least match Hiller? 4.) Can the Wings make their superior depth up front pay off over 7 games? 5.) Do the Ducks continue the parade to the penalty box, and do the Wings make them pay for it? NFM's Key's to the Series: (1) Strong first passes out of the zone (better than what they did against CBJ) (2) Defensive Zone face-off wins (3) Strong play behind our own goal-line (Guys like Ericcson need to use their strength) (4) Create Havoc in front of Hiller (5) Depth Scoring (With Z likely to be matched up against the Getzlaf line, Pavel and Fil's line need to get pucks past Hiller) Nice points NFM. Your 2 and 3 are what are needed to make my 1--containing the Getzlaf line--happen. Good puck movement out of the zone is also important, as Anaheim's best chance is if the Wings give them many odd man opportunities and struggle entering the offensive zone. A strong first pass mitigates both. We also agree that keys to series come in 5s
jollymania 162 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 You know, you're right. In 2007 we didn't have anyone that hit. Kronwall had not yet found his wild side, and his magical pairing with Stuart had not happened yet. I can't wait to see one of thsoe guys hit Pronger and send his helmet flying. kronwall had a broken bone in his back remember
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I don't think you can die from an acl injury. my mistake, I thought they were talking about the puck to the chest... wasn't that Yzerman who took that shot too?

Guest Shoreline Report post Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) Unless Pronger gets in front of Ozzie or plays the boards low in the Wings zone, there won't be much of this Pronger vs. Ericsson thing. Chances are better than that of being the Hossa or Mule vs. Pronger battle. Edit: And as for the Yzerman thing it was simply Yzerman ducking a Pronger hit and Pronger tearing up his knee flying over him. If anything I was just hoping that was career ending, not life threatening. Edited April 28, 2009 by Shoreline

YOU HAVE IT BACKWARDS, DON'T YOU REMEMBER??? PrickPronger was trying to take out an already-injured StevieY along the boards. PrickPronger came flying in from behind, StevieY stuck his ass out, and PrickPronger's birdie-little ACL went "POP!" Swayze 81 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 The thing that i'm worried about in this series is that we have almost 0 experience shooting against Hiller. He was in for 1 period, and we got 1 goal (not bad, but not nearly enough time to figure him out, plus it's the playoffs so he's taken it to the next level). Mason was the exact opposite case, we played against him 3-4 times in the season (I think, because I know leclaire played 1 or 2), and we always knew how to score on him in those games. So: If we can figure out Hiller in game 1: Wings in 6 If we don't get a goal till game 2: Wings in 7 Of course, I don't think the Ducks can beat us. As you all know, the only reason we lost 2 years ago and aren't going for our third straight cup was because kronwall and schneider were out for that series, and now we have Ericsson. (Ericsson vs Pronger, let em go linesmen)
anthonyn66 89 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Oh - and don't forget Kyle Calder. Did he even get off the bench in the Ducks series two years ago? Man, that guy sucked. Lidstrom - Markov Lilja - Chelios Lebda - Quincey VS Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Ericsson - Lebda Big Difference. wish Lilja was back, however - he would be a big improvement over Lebda. wasn't schnieder part of the detroit defense too? Swayze 81 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 wasn't schnieder part of the detroit defense too? Yeah but he broke his wrist (I think in the last or second-last game of the SJ series), so he didn't play.
