C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Hating Pierre sure is the cool thing to do, but the fact remains that he is the most knowledgeable hockey personality in the game today Pang is great too This. I appreciate Pierre's enthusiasm for the game, and he's probably more insightful than any other hockey TV personality out there. There, I said it. Where was this thread last weekend? Didn't Pang fill in then too?

cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 I have no idea how any Canadians can take Bob McKenzie seriously, but for some reason we all do. Nepotism; his father got him a job at the paper he started: Ken McKenzie.
Mors 201 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 There's always going to be a few people who have to jump in and defend a guy as universally despised by the Red Wings' universe as Pierre Mcguire Although it's entirely possible hell has frozen over, this is the first year I can remember Mcguire speaking favorably about the Wings' and their chances. Ok, that was effin creepy. I've never got why he's universally despised, I don't see him as a Barry Melrose, who had a clear reason to hate us and an apparent vendetta. I just think McGuire's a symptom of "everybody in the media hates us" syndrome, which every team's fans have, not just the Wings. That said, his "gust of wind" theory at the Winter Classic was pretty idiotic.
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 I like anyone better than Pierre so far. Seriously, the guy is terrible. T-Ruff, the guy they replaced him with today is far more knowledgeable. Nothing against Pang (he's one of the best/a favourite of mine also), but I'll take the guy who was mentored by the greatest hockey mind of all time (Scotty ) and maintains his friendship to this day every time.... There's a reason Pierre McGuire has been called a hockey encyclopedia... eg. he will be able to tell you what virtually any former player is doing now, and where virtually any former and current player played before they entered the NHL (Jr., College, Europe, etc). That might not command everyone's respect, but it sure does mine... his insightful and entertaining analysis is just a compliment to his expertise.

uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Pierre shouldnt be allowed on television. As a male, I find it offensive that any sperm cell can slap on a pair of glasses and suit and become a tv broadcaster.

ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_Pang Standing only 5-foot-5, Pang was one of the shortest players to play in the NHL. It was often joked that he was the only goalie with a "6 hole," right above his head. I about peed my pants when I read that, hilarious.

I've always respected McGuire, but in my experience watching/listening to him, he's far better off on TSN. The great thing about TSN is McGuire is only heard either between the benches after whistles, or in the studio during an intermission. Ever since he came over to NBC/Versus he's acted like those idiots do and won't shut up while the puck is in play, since the NBC/Versus crews are too busy wanking to themselves on the air over their hockey knowledge rather than letting the play by play guy call the game, and going at it after the whistles or periods. I get that Pierre knows his stuff, but why it gets lost in the translation is because of the moronic comments he makes. I can stand his "entertaining analysis" as you call it. The interview with Nick after the Cup win last year was point-and-case of his Captain Obvious questions.
