CUJO#31 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 I saw a poll at ESPN.com this morning. Here it is, with the choices for answers. "Which sporting event are you most excited for this weekend?" NBA Playoffs NHL Playoffs Hatton vs Pacquiao The Kentucky Derby Now I didn't think the poll was "funny" until I saw the answers. There is a option now where you can answer the question, then see a map of the US and see how each state voted. Of the lower 48 here is how the country voted. (most popular answer for each state) 45 states voted for the NBA Playoffs. 1 state voted for the NHL Playoffs (Michigan, lol) 1 state voted for the Kentucky Derby (Kentucky, lol) 1 state was undecided between NHL and NBA (PA, rofl) No more BS about who really loves hockey. PA is obviously torn, Kentucky well...
stormboy 47 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 NBA = i was surprised, though, to see on ESPN's "top play of the month" voting competition that the three plays were that dude stealing home plate (admitadly very impressive) some dude's last-second game winning shot in an NBA playoff game, and ovechkin's amazing goal against the rags. i'm sure that ovie's goal will get panned in the voting, but either way i was surprised to even see it mentioned on ESPN. denverswingsfan 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Well I guell it is kind of hard to get excited if you feel you know you have no chance of winning. Wings fans know they have a great chance and we are excited.

CUJO#31 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Because we all know the first website any hockey fan goes to is ESPN.... Well, some hockey fans in MI are voting eh? I actually have thought the bulls/celts series is really good, normally I hate the NBA but double and triple oT every game, blood, it's been good.

Louisville 112 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 wow i cant believe they left off the blackhaws, who the hell are the red stars? Yeah... Apparently, the Red Stars is a women's soccer team in Chicago. No Blackhawks but there is women's soccer team. No, not even the men's team Chicago Fire. Are these people smoking crack at the ESPN offices?
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Shouldn't be all that surprising. Hockey isn't the most popular sport in the country. ESPN caters to as many people as possible in this country, plenty who follow other sports first over hockey. ESPN doesn't follow hockey as much as other sports. It's neither bad/good, it is what it is.
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Funny how many people we have complaining about ESPN, yet they're always visiting the site to tell us how disrespectful it is to hockey. Granted this is more of an observation based on a fan poll so I'm not berating this thread or anything. ESPN is practically as basketball station around this time of year. I understand what your both saying and I don't visit ESPN except to read Bucci's column. But how much does ESPN follow soccer? Or even any woman's sport? Why that team on the list instead of the Hawks, I just don't get it.
wingsgirl001 983 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 (edited) ESPN sucks. They don't care much about hockey. And this isn't ESPN but it is related to the discussion, but I was looking at the USA Today paper earlier and I flipped through their sports section. NOTHING about the NHL playoffs until the second to last page. Everything else was basketball and baseball. They even had NASCAR and the Kentucky Derby before the NHL playoffs. Yeah I never COMPLAINED about ESPN, just thought the poll results were funny. There are other outlets so I personally don't see why people get so worked up. Who cares how good their hockey coverage is.
