NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Because he wants to split up our two best defensive forwards. ZDHolm would be great, but then we'd need to doubleshift them or something.
wingsownnhl43 14 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Because he wants to split up our two best defensive forwards. ZDHolm would be great, but then we'd need to doubleshift them or something. I realize this but when Zetta, Dats, and Hossa are ALL struggling and cant get anything going, a switch has to be made. Filppula is a strong defensive forward, put him with Hossa and Franzen. With Zetta, and Dats and the last change we can put our two best defensive forwards against the perry/getzlaf/ryan line.
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Good point - I have one more point though (bear with me I'm a bit drunk). While I can understand that ZDHolm don't play together regular strength, why doesn't Babs at elast mix it up for PPs? ZDHolm-LidSammy FranzFilHoss-KronStewie or something like that. vOrophin 5 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Zata Cleary Franzen line is getting stuff done, no reason to break that up. I'm not sure how the Ducks are matching up to our lines but I would guess they have their top defense against the Hossa Datsyuk Holmstrom line, which could be one of the reasons for the decreased productivity. Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 I agree. Put Hossa on second with Fil and Cleary/Mule.
egroen 384 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Datsyuk and Hossa are simply ineffective together. They recognized this in December, but are right back to trying to force it to work. Those guys literally neutralize each other on the ice.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 With the way that Getzlaf line plays so many minutes, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have set 1 and 2 lines against them. Maybe they just need to get a little more creative with their shifts. The Cleary-Zetterberg-Franzen line has been good against them and so you want to keep that group out together for some shifts. But what about giving Pav a shift every now and again in Cleary's spot; or Hossa a shift every now and again in Franzen's spot. You start out with CZF and then on the next shift have DZF and then on the next shift have CZH. The main idea is to get a more creative rotation out there to give the big ANA line different looks and hopefully keep them guessing. Have a set rotation like... Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Franzen Cleary-Datsyuk-Hossa Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Franzen-Datsyuk-Hossa Alright, maybe not quite that insane. It can get messy, but Bowman used to do it and if a team can get it straight then it can work wonders. I definitely like the idea of Datsyuk and Zetterberg together, mostly because it'll help Datsyuk's game intensity wise and it will also help Zetterberg because he doesn't have to be the main puck handler and can focus more on shooting when Datsyuk is on the ice. TheOwl 77 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Franzen, Cleary and Zetterberg are playing amazing, breaking up the top scoring line isn't something to do on a wim. Hossa and Dats played well together during the first half of the season, no excuse why they should be ineffective now. Maybe even take Homer off the 1st line, and save him for the power-play/4th line. Helm, Dats and Hossa may work. Either way, first line sucks right now, defensively and offensively. Stuart and Ericcson are really turning it up though, after this season I would of never thought Hossa and Dats were the reason for a loss.

Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 It is because we broke up the ZDH line I'm not sold on Hossa. In fact I really hope we don't get him back because most people don't see it this way, but I really think that he has screwed up our team chemistry especially on the first line. Hank does not belong on the second line.
