Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 The wingslost at home. Are you sure you can win in their house with-out any changes. Especially considering that they get last change, and can put a slightly tired Getzlaf line out against Maltby, Kopecky, and helm anytime that we're stupid enough for putting them out there for any face-off? I agree with this poster. I feel the situation is a little more severe than a lot of fans are showing. Wings are back to their Dave Lewis style play where they shoot 50 shots a game, but only 1 or 2 of them come from inside of 20 feet. That's not good, considering the Ducks have the goalies with the biggest equipment on the planet and the referees on their side. The Wings better get a little pep-talk about crashing the net, or they might as well stay in So Cal for the nice golf course conditions.

The gameplan on the road is always different due to not having the last change. They know what to do, they know that sometimes the matchups get screwed up. The wings just need to have control in the faceoff circle. The Ducks did that a bunch today where they won the faceoff and made a change right away.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 We got outplayed. s*** happens, you move on and prepare for the next game. We weren't going 16-0. I don't find blame with any one person, the whole team did not perform up to par like they did in the last game or even in the series against Columbus. Hopefully they learn something from this and come out guns blazing for Game 3.
Taosuntzu 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) We got outplayed. s*** happens, you move on and prepare for the next game. We weren't going 16-0. I don't find blame with any one person, the whole team did not perform up to par like they did in the last game or even in the series against Columbus. Hopefully they learn something from this and come out guns blazing for Game 3. But we did play extremely well. We outplayed them in 4 of the 6 periods. It's not panic time, but we have failed to contain the *ucks top line for 2 games in a row now. When do you propose to change things up? Right now we are in a 5 game series with the best cup contenders outside of Michigan, and they have home ice advantage. Out of the next 5 games, which is the most meaningless? I personally hate making changes out of desperation, you know down 3-1 and facing 3 straight elimination games! So, if you're going to make a change, I think now is the time. I like Dats, Zetts, and mule for a faster line and loose puck grabbing. I like Hoss, Cleary, and Helm for a ferocious so tight they can't breathe, so quick they can't even be obstructed, Aneheim's defense cant even enter the offensive zone, line. Which leaves Holmstrom for an OMG quit screening me, where it is very much needed on a Flip, huds line. Only the first 2 lines will be taking face-offs in Anaheim. So my big question is how are Helm and Cleary on face-offs if Hossa gets kicked? And, can they consistently recover from losing face-offs? Edit: grammer (still sucks) but what ya gonna do? Go get a Bachlor's in English to type on the internet!? Edited May 4, 2009 by Taosuntzu
SoDakWing 8 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 The Little Caesars the ducks got were better than the Wings. thats whats to blame. they f***ed up the delivery to dressing rooms. DAMN IT. did it last year against Pitt too. Somebody tell these pizza boys that the red wings get the GOOD pizza not the rotten one.
Louisville 112 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Babcock is known to switch up his lines when thing aren't working, I'm still scratching my head why he didn't after a hour and a half of no goals. Also, the Wings look absolutely lost against the Ducks cycling down low...

NKYWingsFan 4 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) I blame me. I failed to choke back every single piece of my pep Hot n Ready (uurp...) prior to the drop of the puck. I also washed my "home" jersey TWO days prior to this game, at night, rather than ONE day prior, during the early evening. I may have also added too much fabric softener but I can't remember. I moved from an upright/sitting position to a reclined/sofa-nap position late in the third period. I did not return to the upright/sitting position during the OTs. Lastly, the remote moved slightly from its 'goal scoring mojo' position to 'Wings take a loss juju' position partway through the first overtime. It remained there for several moments before I noticed the change. Clearly, if anyone is to blame, it is me. I'm sorry. GO WINGS! DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I blame Babcock for his inability to change things up until its too late. Who do you blame? why should we blame just one person? when a team loses you cant just put it all on one person, like in another topic they said that it was one lose in 5 games chill out. if u really want me to blame someone i blame the whole team because on 59 shots they got 3 goals
zaxx 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I am sorry guys but this one is all my fault. I watched the whole games yesterday but whenever I left the room to get snacks, let the dog out or whatever, the Ducks scored. Then after 2 overtimes my wife told me we had to leave the house to get groceries. I knew we had to do this on Sunday but I was hoping the Wings would score before we had to leave. Well she used the "I'm pregnant" excuse, which is like kryptonite to a good husband. I had to stop watching the game before the start of the 3rd overtime, which as we all know was shortly before the ducks scored. If I had continued to watch the game, oz would have made the save and we would have won. I am sorry guys, I officially turn in my team badge and accept my 24 hour suspension. I will accept my badge back just before the puck drops on Tuesday at which time I will have matured, seen the error of my ways, and will diligently watch the entire game. Look for a goose egg out of Oz!
interminded 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 - Detroits best players ain't the best players. - It's been years since pavel been this bad. - Babcock inability to change things up. - Anaheims defense is superior to Detroit's when there are two injuries. - Kronwall should NEVER join a rush because he puts the team in a brutal position when he cant get home fast enough and gets stuck behind enemy goal. - Pronger > Lidström this game, no doubt. - Too many injuries. - Chelios should not play hockey any more, he's absolutely useless. - Osgood is a small goalie and overplays too much. Mediocre. *YAWN....*

Dr. Scrappers 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Blame Chelios. Babcock is terrified to play him because he knows Chelios will take at least one penalty per game. Sure enough Chelios took a dumb penalty last game and Anaheim scored the go-ahead goal on the ensuing powerplay. That's just about when Babcock benched him for the rest of the game. Then we had to play a marathon game with only 5 defensemen. We desperately need Rafalski back, so we don't have to awkwardly double-shift our other defensemen. I never thought I'd miss Lilja, but it would be huge if we had him healthy right now.
kolo 10 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Well, This is what I think... Osgood is not as great as he was last year but as the Playoffs started he started off great. I was at the game and the goal was a heartbreaker... 3 OT made osgoods arms sore I bet. That game is over, so we need to get past it and win the next 2. The only line that is a real threat to the wings is GETZLAF. He seriously just walks through our defense. If we can shut that line down, we should have no problem. Hossa and Datsuyk arnt doing much but it will come they just need some kind of spark and once that happens it will be a murder! I just hope its sooner then later. stormboy 47 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 i blame marchant for firing a fricking laser. ducks deserved this one. it's a long series. it's 1-1 right now with their top line playing out of this world--if hossa and dats can get going at ALL, the clear edge is to the wings. (of course, at this point, that seems like a fairly big if...but i have faith!)
Guest MrSandMan Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I blame Babcock for his inability to change things up until its too late. Who do you blame? I blame Babcock too because Wings didn't go 82-0 in regular season and 16-0 last playoffs, now they won't go 16-0 this playoffs. Man, this sucks! BTW, when was the last time a team went 16-0 in the Playoffs in the cap world? So I blame Bettman, too. Damn him! /pounds fist
