Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 He has about as much effect on what they do as we do here. Maybe he should realize that instead of going "Hey you over there, get off your duff and do something."
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Mitch Albom doesn't even watch hockey. He just has contacts tell him when there's a story in which he can repeat the same line a million times with slight alterations.
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) He has about as much effect on what they do as we do here. Maybe he should realize that instead of going "Hey you over there, get off your duff and do something." He's a journalist and he clearly knows that writing about an underperforming Red Wing is going to get the website clicks. For the most part, I agree with him. Homer has been invisible in this series. And for a player who relies on obstructing vision, that's not a good thing. Edited May 14, 2009 by ComradeWasabi

He just has contacts tell him when there's a story in which he can repeat the same line a million times with slight alterations. Hahaha thats ridiculously on point. At any rate, while I agree Homer (among others) needs to contribute, its pretty easy to see why hes not. 1. Our shots from the point have been blocked 2. Hiller gives up nasty rebounds that actually work to his benefit by nature of the fact that they end up 20 feet in front of the net instead of 2.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 I remember what/how I thought about Malkin last year in the finals....and that's now what our entire first line is going through. And I debated with even calling them our first due to the production differences, but in terms of importance, ZDH wins, which means they get the first line title. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Must have another book coming out or something, and needs some press. Albom knows nothing. Homer and Dats are fine, and will do their jobs without his words of wisdom.

Homer and Dats are fine, and will do their jobs without his words of wisdom. Whether or not you like Mitch Albom (which obviously you do not) doesn't matter. What does, is the fact he is spot on. Homer and Dats have not been fine in this series. Now, maybe they will be, but to this point they haven't done much of anything. Now, Dats has played ok, but you would expect more than 2 assists (one of which was a secondary empty net assist) out of a Hart tropy finalist. Know what I mean? It is time for them to step it up, there is no tomorrow for this team.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted May 14, 2009 I don't think Hiller has seen (or smelled) enough Homer ass, let's just say. However, I very quickly skimmed over this article and didn't see one mention of Datsyuk.. and either he mentioned it somewhere else, or he's just simply a retard. gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Homer should be pushed down to line 2 with Hossa and Cleary. Franzen should be playing with Dats and Z.
Guest micah Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Homer and Dats are fine, and will do their jobs without his words of wisdom. They have not been fine, they have been underperforming. That's not fine. I hope they both step it up tonight. I can forgice Homer a bit more - he isn't expected to do much except stand in frot of the net and chip in a few ugly goals. He can't do that if Pavel isn't even getting the puck towards the net. the Ducks' D has pushed Dats off his game thus far this series. Not surprising, they have great Defense - but it is somewhat surprising just how effective they, in conjunction with their rookie goaltender, have been at shutting down Dats' offensive production. Pavs is doing nothing to shake his rep of being very hit-or-miss in the playoffs. I'm hoping he gets on the board in a big way tonight. 1 point (I won't count the empty-netter) over a 7 game series is absolutely unacceptable if you're the team's top scorer, and your fans want to mention your name as being among the league's best. Guest micah Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Well, there probably isn't a better D tandem than Niedermier and Pronger in the league, and the Ducks DO have some forwards who play pretty solid D, but I don't think the Wings have shown the ducks what they do best so far this series. Hank 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Mitch Albom doesn't even watch hockey. He just has contacts tell him when there's a story in which he can repeat the same line a million times with slight alterations. Exactly. He's a big eared, short little nerd that's more concerned about the 5 people in Heaven who want to give him a wedgie. I remember a few years back how the MLB Writers assocation took away his right to vote on baseball matters. He was pretty ticked off about it. But that's what happens when you're hanging out with Maury and writing plays more than writing about sports. I've listened to his radio show and he's such an arrogant pompous ass. You can tell he has a very high opinion of himself. I basically stopped reading his stuff when he wrote an article in the spring of 2003 (after we got swept by the Ducks) how the Wings should have traded Fedorov. I wrote him an email telling him what a wonderful idea that was. Sure, why not trade one of your best playoff performers, AFTER WINNING THE CUP, because you're not sure if he'll be back or not. Even if Fedorov had told the Wings "I"m leaving" you make sure you have the best team available for a repeat. And who knows? What if they won a Cup? Maybe Sergei would have stayed? But the point is, you don't make assinine statements like that based off of perfect 20/20 hindsight. No GM in the world would have dealt Fedorov in that situation based on the fact that him resigning wasn't 100%. What an assclown. He knows about sports as much as he does about being tall and not looking like a mentally challenged Hobbit.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 The day that I take hockey advice from Mitch Albom is the day that Chris Pronger makes a speech about how dirty of a team the Ducks are and how they're an embarrassment to the league.

mjlegend 155 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 P.S. Hey Al-BOMB, maybe Homer's not playing that well right now because he's freakin' injured!?!?! If he's injured to the point of not being able to do his job, maybe he should take the night off and put someone in who can. Fact is, Holmstrom hasn't done much this series and is a far cry from the 1998-2008 Homer we loved to watch go to the net and park there. Unless something drastic changes in the next few weeks, my memory of him from this year's playoff is going to be his elbow.

But at the same time you can say the same thing about Cleary, Hudler, Filuplla or the other 7 Wings forwards who haven't scored.
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 But at the same time you can say the same thing about Cleary, Hudler, Filuplla or the other 7 Wings forwards who haven't scored. I see Flip, Huds, Cleary, Datsyuk and most of the rest getting good chances or setting things up. I don't see that from Homer, even on the power play. Homer simply hasn't been the same player he ws in last year's run. A major part of the reason, IMO, is that the Ducks are giving him a lot of attention and not all of it is clean. Whenever the Wings have possession on the PP, he's practically wearing Niedermayer's jersey. But it's not like he hasn't been the centre of a team's defensive efforts before. I hope he's not hurt, and if he is hurt I applaud him for giving his all while injured. I hope he scores a few goals tonight. But I'm also hoping he can walk away from the game while he can still physcially walk away from the game.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 I think what's scary is that the Wings have pushed Anaheim to the brink withuot their top players producing. And, hopefully the Wings can finish them off, with or without our top line.
