NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 It was for holding. I downloaded the French feed, which I believe was showing the VS picture, and it didn't show a replay. I don't remember thinking it was that big a deal. The refs missed a lot - apart from the bad call on Kronwall and then some possible 'compensation calls' or ignored penalties in favour of the Wings, I recall there was one PP where Cleary was trying to clear the puck and was clearly hooked/tripped, and later one Kane was tripped pretty obviously. Apparently, Byfuglien also high-sticked Stuart, who needed stitches (no penalty).

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 It was for holding. No offense people, but if you don't know, why bother responding to let people know that you don't know? To find out, go to nhl.com, click on scores, find the right day, click on boxscore and look.

The OP said: What was the penalty on Ericsson after the 5 minute major BS ? I didnt see it and of course VS didnt show the replay of it. I just noticed Ericsson complaining to the ref about it. Anyone know ? I said what the penalty was (as per the question) and added where to go to find the information in the event that the OP should be cursed with VS in the future and wish to find the information on his/her own. I responded as was requested by the OP. Go figure.

That, coupled with the fact that the Vs announcers never said anything about the penalty (a good indicator of a s***ty call), multiplied by the already horrible officiating in that period, makes a lot of people here suspicious, especially when Danny O'Halloran was a whistle. Ah, that is a completely different take on it, and I can see how the OP's question could be taken that way.

Firehawk 305 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 Can someone explain the situation with the referees in terms of their structuring with contracts and such? I don't know what it is, honestly, and I'd like to know. For instance, is there a referee union, and in their contract they aren't allowed to be interviewed? Also, what's the so-called process for referees being reviewed on questionable calls if any?
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 I hate it how often TV broadcasts don't show replays of penalties. If I'm following a game I want to know what's going on. It seems that penalties are considered a minor part of the game which it definitely isn't.

CBC and FSN do it. Just one more reason why national hockey coverage in the US is ******* amateur hour.

Just one more reason why national hockey coverage in the US is ******* amateur hour. I don't know about that. The announcers are still commenting some of the plays that lead to penalties. Weird. To me it looks like the people who do their replays just can't find the right play quick enough as they have only few seconds. Or maybe they just don't care as commercials are more imporant anyway. I remember even FSN misses some penalties, but not nearly as often.
Aeothe Kaear 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2009 Ericsson deserved his penalty. Though it was more than a little lame of them to call it after ignoring several comparable infractions by the Hawks.
