Rocket Queen 30 1 Report post Posted May 25, 2009 Before game 4, I was impressed with Chicago. Liked what they had to offer as a team. After what I witnessed in game 4, I am just disappointed. After challenging Detroit to two overtimes, I thought they were for real. Q knows the wings franchise well. It is hard to believe a coach in NHL with his experience would back that kind of play as a game plan. Especially against a team that just beat the Ducks. See my point? He must have nightmares about the Winged Wheel running him over repeatedly. The Hawks getting blown out in game 4 doesn't make them phonies, but they're kids. What did you expect from them really? They have a talented club but they're just not at the same level as Detroit. This being their first playoff experience in some time, it's only natural that emotions would run high. They melted down and suffered for it but that is a learning experience and my guess is they'll be better for it in the long run. That being said I'm hoping we kick the crap outta those kids on Wednesday... it's way past their bed time.
softshoes 83 Report post Posted May 25, 2009 After the Kronwall hit in game 3 the league/refs knew game 4 could get out of hand real quick. The Hawks came out and looked for revenge instead of winning the game. No conspiracy. It was the refs job to make sure a hockey game and not a WWF match was played. If anyone thought the refs would put their whistles up there ass and only blow it during a gas attack is on drugs. Good for the Wings for keeping the real goal in sight, that big shiny thingie, and keeping their composure. I just caught the Quenneville interview on TV again and couldn't believe how much he sounded like the Pens Michelle last year with his obstruction crap. I am not disagreeing with what you are saying but don,t you think that Q's experience as coach should help them out in rough times. It seemed that his emotions were out of control which passed right through to the team. I expect a young team to have few meltdowns, but an experienced, playoff tested NHL coach? No way. It was like he was reading Coaching for Dummies, the uncensored version written by Mark Crawford. Edited May 26, 2009 by Drummerboyyy!

I just think that part of the reason the Hawks melted down so badly is because of their own inexperience. Consider that there are more of them than coach Q and while he shouldn't lose control of his club, part of it is on them too. I mean regardless of how young they are, they're still professionals in this league and it looked like they forgot that. They're what he has to work with and if they go all psycho-baby on him in the 3rd what more can the guy do? He can't bench 'em all, although he definitely should have sat that idiot Versteeg. Q's emotions got the better of him and he expressed them inappropriately but maybe that was to help take the focus off the kids and put it on himself. Who knows? stormboy 47 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 It's certainly going to suck to hear more bitching about Crosby getting attention if both teams do make it to the Finals. And IF both teams make it there, I'd want the Wings to sweep to avoid the inevitable "ZOMG BETTMAN LUVS CROSBY" s*** that would surely happen after every loss that occurs. THIS. i too am frustrated when calls go the wrong way. i think the problems with officiating bother me as much as the next guy, but suggestions of a conspiracy are ridiculous, on either (or any) side. the real problem, as i see it, is that the league opens itself up to these kinds of discussions, which take the focus off the game and off the players and on to the refs--the last place where attention should be. it's gotten to the point where after every loss, every fan believes the refs are against their team. it's getting pretty goddam annoying. s*** goes both ways. great teams find a way to win in spite of the adversity. hopefully, seeing other teams ***** about the reffing will give us better perspective about how every team's fans feels the way way do. wait, this is LGW...nevermind. Thanks for putting this on here. yeah, i mean, it's just like all fans. first, some people are just sore ******* losers. they can't say, "well, we were outplayed," they have to cross their arms and pout and point fingers because they can't accept defeat. second, a lot of people (myself included) lose control of their emotions when s*** goes down. your team gets embarassed and you're just pissed off. on LGW after a blowout loss you'll see a ton of "ZOMG FIRST ROUND EXIT FIRE OZZIE FIRE BABS TRADE OUR TEAM FOR THE GRIFFINS" kind of crap sprinkled with a few "well, one tough loss, let's get ready for next game" posts. lastly, the people who are the most extreme (eg the poster that OP quoted) are also the loudest. *shrug*

Broken 16 381 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 I like the line about dropping the gloves and beating up the Wings. Sure, we're not exactly the toughest team in the NHL, but we don't look like a bunch of skirt wearin girls fighting over a signed John Stamos photograph in every scrum, unlike the Blackhawks. I swear to God... I don't think I've seen a bigger bunch of sissies. Pretty bad when the Wings make you look that way.

DO that. But some of it is SO extreme you just can't sit there and shut up, like the 'fire Ozzie' bulls***. I agree with your take. And I think one of the reasons the extremists seem loud is because when you read that kind of idiocy, your eyes involuntarily widen in shock. So it hits harder. RedFX 48 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 Since we all know that everything we see in print is true, the Wings must be prepared for this. Starting lineup: Kindl, Ericsson, McCarty, Downey, Abdelkader. I have no idea if Kindl can fight or not, but if he loses and is out for the game, he's expendable. The others will win their matchups. Ozzie takes on Huet. Second lineup (next faceoff): Kronner, Cheli, Homer, Mule, Cleary. They can all take the beating. Conks takes out Crawford through pure intimidation. After 10 of the Blackhawks are thrown out of the game, we play their remaining 8 skaters with Lids and Raffy on D (and any others who survived the fights and beatings with sticks), and Dats-Z-Sammy and Flip-Hossa-Huds as the other forward lines. Howard gets the W against the injured Habby or their 4th line goalie, whichever Q chooses to play. Q ruptures a blood vessel; Babs chews gum and drinks Dasani. Are Ogie Oglethorp and Screaming Buffalo available?

Ozzie cements his status as a God of Hockeytown (and downriver). Conks gets a proper Red Wing goalie baptism. (You ain't played G in Motown til you've thrown down at center ice.) Q's head actually explodes on the bench, Scanners-style. Al walks over, picks up pulpy remains, and swings them around over head in triumph.

Snazzy 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 The poster who wrote that was out of line. But as far as teh officiating goes, I do believe there is a conspiracy. I believe that refs call "make up calls", and that's a conspiracy too... but I do see this. I think NHL officiating has major flaws and they really do need to rethink a better system. Nightfall 871 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 This was posted on one of the Chicago Forums. It speaks for itself. Sounds like it could have come from the Wings fans with a little editing. If any of the next games turn out like game 4 did, with the lopsided calls and favoritism toward the Hawks (which we know will happen), here is what needs to happen in order for this to stop.... The Wings need to call up Downey and McCarty to just drop the gloves and beat the Hawks players. After all, that is all we are missing are tough players. These guys need to go out there and beat the crap out of those goon Hawk players. Who do we sit? Hossa and Datsyuk because they aren't producing anyway. I think Downey and McCarty would be great in their spots. At the press conference, say "WE play these guys 8 times a year, we see what happens, and we are tired of playing on uneven ice. Since you (Bettman and Wolkom) turn a blind eye to this, We felt like we need to expose this injustice to the rest of the league." Kind of like, nothing will happen until someone dies, well maybe someone will have to die in order for people to make changes.
