I dont get it.

Didnnt they go 7 games agains washington? Did we not sweep the first round then win the finals in 5?

These reports are getting rediculous. We struggled to get to the cup about as much as they did, except it took them one more game.

BTW didnt we beat a division rival in the WCF? In 5 games?

I am SOOOO sick of hearing how this is history repeating itself, that this is the 84' oilers all over again. No it's not people, not even close. The wings aren't on the tail end of their dynasty we have just as many young legs as the pens do.

Someone made an outstanding post in another thread showing how there's not really much difference in the average age of the teams. Reputations are hard to shake. People still think Calgary is a good playoff team because of 2004. We were old at one time, but now, Lidstrom, Ozzie and Rafalski are the only old guys we have playing vital roles (all due respect to Drapes, Malts, Homer, Cheli, etc.). Everyone else is either in their prime or younger.

But thanks for saying it, because it's exactly why we're special and unique among dynasties. Most dynasties are successful because of an outstanding group of core players, and once those guys retire or move on, the team fades. We, on the other hand, successfully turned over almost the entire core of our team without missing a beat. Yzerman, Shanahan and Fedorov begat Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Franzen. Lidstrom's the only guy I would consider a core player that's been around since 1997. Ozzie gets an asterisk since he left and came back, although we've won with other goalies.

Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't it be a concern that Malkin and Crosby has combined for 56 point? Shut those guys down, and Pittsburgh is in a lot of trouble! The Pens were deeper last year than this year. Compare that to Detroit, we can win playoff games without Lidstrom, Datsyuk, and Draper.

If the media wants to continue to bring up 1983 and 1984, they should also mention that this is the 11th time the same two teams have played in back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships. 7 of 10 times, the team that won the cup the first year, won it the second time.

I know you guys all know this already, but Hossa was their best player in the finals last year. Then they essentially tried to replace him and Ryan Malone (who I like) with Fedotenko and Satan. Fail. They then add Guerin and Kunitz, which is an improvement to be sure, but at the same time, they're only as good as Crosby makes them look. They're not picking up the slack if we shut down their center.

Excellent point on the 2nd part. I think the attraction to Islanders-Oilers is that it fits what most people (media, casual fans--I'm NOT a conspiracy theorist) want to see--the Pens becoming the new dynasty, replacing us, with Crosby and Malkin playing Gretzky and Messier.

Has Rob Parker ever been right? If he is who I am thinking of Valenti talks so much s*** about this guy, and everytime I seen an article related to him he is spouting off about some buls*** he knows nothing about. It's like the people on PTI trying to debate hockey. I'd rather listen to Cherry.

hey hey hey,,,, Do not dis Cherry. Don Cherry knows Hockey. Sure I do always agree with him but he knows hockey. Period.

Also I want his suit maker to make me a suit for my wedding.
