can we resign Hossa and Hudler/Samuelsson?

I'm sorry, but if you are valuing Hudler more than Hossa, (which I'm not sure if you are or not) you'll have to explain to me why...

I'm not really valuing Hudler over Hossa, I'm just more fond of him as a Red Wing than I am of Hossa. Hossa's been great and if we could keep him that'd be great too but it doesn't seem likely. I have very different opinions, from a lot of people, on what makes a good team. I like to believe that a successful team isn't made up of all the very best players, but rather the best players for that team. Is all I'm sayin'

Alright... No problem with that.

LMAO... Still.. If keeping Hossa means giving up on Hudles, whom I have grown to love. Ehhh, we don't really NEED Hossa do we? I still feel bad for Sammy though. He's had a really strong playoff but, I just don't see him sticking.

Babcock absolutely LOVES Sammy, he'll be back, especially if he'll take a contract similar to what he has right now. And Huds for 2.5 would be nice.

*DISCLAIMER*

You cannot reopen/restructure/renegotiate contracts!!! Once a contract is signed, and approved by the league it cannot be renegotiated.

I don't think this is quite accurate. I think a team can "Buy Out" contracts and then restructure them. The problem is that the buyout figure goes against the cap. For instance, Lidstrom has a buyout figure of 2.5 million or so on his contract. Thus, if the Wings are going to lower his cap it for 2009-10, his total cap hit in the new contract can't be above 5 million or so. The league won't allow a player of his calibur to sign for that type of discount. There is no way to keep Hossa unless the cap goes up to 62 million. Wings fans need to get used to him being gone after this season.

If I had things my way I'd keep the team as it is. I was just saying to my sister the other day that I love this team almost, if not just as much, as I loved our late 90's team. I honestly never thought any other generation of Wings teams could rival that team, in my heart. It's kind of a cool feeling. I just love my team.

Actually, Lidstrom's buy-out would be nearly 5 million dollars because once a player is older than 26 a buy-ouy takes 2/3's of a players salary. You're wrong on almost every statement you make in this post.

Why am I even talking about buying out Lidstrom's contract? Can anyone tell me?

Hossa might even walk after this season... Why are people so insistant that he WILL sign here?

I rather keep the core team from 08 then having Hossa...

I've seen more posts saying it is impossible to sign Hossa, even though Rich Winter already stated if Hossa is staying in Detroit, cap won't be an issue. I'm not insisting that he will stay, I'm saying it's possible and that I think he will be here next year whether I like it or not.

The team has no chemistry with Hossa. He's not a smart player, he's just shooting the puck and play individual like an Eastern Conference guy... Let him go back to Pittsburgh if they still want him :D
