shoe 165 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 What a strange empty feeling I have. Ive become a little bit of a Redwings news Junkie. Reading the Newspaper sites like Mlive Free Press and Detroit News all pretty much say the same thing, Pens win the cup in 7, Babcock say injuries played a roll but none are identified, There is the Lidstom and Osgood interviews and then the whole Hossa thing and that seems to be it. That will probably be it for a week maybe 2. Its so strange I know a break from hockey will be a good thing, spent a lot of time here and on news sites reading about the wings as well as all those games. My Girlfriend was great she isnt a die hard fan but she understood I didnt want to miss any games and put up with me participating in after game reading on the net. So really 3 months with maybe 4 or 5 days of news left, well bring on the clearing out the locker news, the draft day, free agency, and the roster moves. As I look ahead to next year I see a tired team and hope we inject some new energy in there a few kids will be in the line up that will be good hope there is a veteran gritty guy coming in or at least room to aquire one at the trade deadline next year. hardcoretom21 71 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 I hate to pour oil on the fire, but to get to 1 win and not finish it really hurts.... Next year is going to be extremely long. Can the 'youngsters' keep up their stellar play for a whole season? Can the Red Wings manage to find more juice and motivation, in spite of the olympics, at which 1/4 of the team will participate? DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 The Ducks have allegedly traded Pronger to the Kings for Jack Johnson... so if we meet them in the playoffs again that's one less ****** bag to worry about (even though I could see Jack Johnson evolving into that role nicely). There's some good news.

Zack is Great 14 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 I'll admit, I just have that empty feeling in my gut as well. Half my family is now laid off, looking for jobs out of state, the Lions are a joke, the Pistons got swept, the Wings got so close to see it slip away from them to a guy who's face is plastered anywhere the NHL can stick it, when he can't even grow a beard... Times is hard, and they only seem to be getting harder =[
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted June 13, 2009 (edited) Babcock says the Wings are tired. Tired of course due to back to back extended seasons, very little rest, and injuries which caused other players to also play extended minutes and tire themselves out further. There is likely injuries that might come to fruition within the next few days, but obviously Dats was injured, Lids was injured, Hank might have been injured (which is ironic since he played such a great shut-down game against Crosby), Raffy was injured.. I could keep going on and on, but last year's team was substantially healthier. It's so hard to win back to back cups because winning takes it's toll on players. If you want some good news, either wade through the speculation topics or wait until September -- good news is, the preseason will be underway that month, as well as my birthday. RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Bad news is that they now played two extremely long seasons. They start training camp in what ... a couple of months?

Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 (edited) Yeah next season it's gonna be even more tough to win. It can be done, no point stressing about back-to-back (to back) long seasons, I'm sure the players can handle it. It sure beats a long off-season. Zack is Great 14 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Yeah next season it's gonna be even more tough to win. On the plus side, we'll have lots of young blood we didn't have before. Helm and Ericcson, maybe Leino with an entire season of expierence leading up to the playoffs with what they went through last year? Gotta remember, in a lot of ways this was a rookie team. With the amount of injuries we had, many of our players went from banging around in the minors to being dumped onto the most storied franchise in the modern NHL. With a damn close cup run and soon to be a regular season under their belt to hone their skills some, we'll be a pretty fierce beast for years to come. shoe 165 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Yeah next season it's gonna be even more tough to win. Sure will be starting the season in Sweden, and the Olympics which was pointed out earlier as well on top of 82 games and then the playoff season on top of that I need a nap just thinking about it, maybe ill sleep all summer long and wake up in time for training camp
Nightfall 871 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 The only empty feeling I have right now is missing hockey for the next 3 months. Middle of September is when training camps open. Thats over 3 months without hockey. Sure, I will take in some tiger games and some minor league games here in Grand Rapids. In the end though, I am a hockey fan and a Wings fan. I will miss not seeing them on TV for 3+ months. Do I feel empty because of the Wings loss? Yes, but only because they didn't win their last game. Anytime you don't win your last game, its an empty feeling. At the same time though, 4 cups in 11 years? We are so spoiled.

Hell yeah, my stomach is still in a knot over yesterday, and I have plenty of bitter taste in my mouth. But we are certainly spoiled enough to go through a season of incessantly bashing individuals (Osgood, Filppula, to name just a few) throughout the season and mysteriously jumping back on their bandwagon during the playoffs and pretending nothing happened. I made several 49ers fans analogies throughout the regular season and it's right on target with how spoiled a good portion of fans here are. I'm just interested as to what these people will do when the time comes for the Wings to be the punching bag of the Central. IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 I cannot explain how I feel. Every game besides Gm 1 Rd 1 we had a party here. Family, friends, and great hockey. To not end on a great note. It just does not seem right. I am going through the five stages of grief. One minute I will be accepting, forgiving. Then the next MAD AS HELL. I am not sure how many times in the last 12 hours I have said I hate Stuart and want him gone then 5 minutes later say I forgive him and he needs to stay. RusDRW 155 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 in the beginning of this season I wanted it to be "off season" for the Red Wings. I was perfectly sure we won't repeat. And it was "off season" by our standards. Unfortunately, this team is so good. Do not get me wrong I really want Red Wings to succeed but now I have very bad feelings about the next season. This, my friend, is rightfully being upset and fighting off irrationality. It does not always end right. The last 15 seasons, twice it has not ended right for the Wings in the finals, 4 times it has, 8 times it didn't end right in one of the first three rounds, and one season it didn't even start due to the lockout. None of those, however, was a Game 7 loss of any sort. The last time the Wings lost a Game 7, to my recollection, was in 1993. I think going 16 straight years of making the playoffs and not losing a Game 7 is admirable, and was bound to change at some point.
Vilmer 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Losing game 7, at the Joe, with the best team of players in the league makes me sick to my stomach. I'm hungover, miserable and this is going to be a painful 3 months.

Casey 145 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 I've all the good news I need. Let's look at the last 20 years. 18 playoff appearances. 14 Central/Norris division championships. 6 Western Conference championships. 6 President's Trophies. 6 appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals. 4 Stanley Cups. Find me a team that wouldn't kill for that. Detroit's going to be very good for a very, very long time. They'll be back. This time, everyone on that team has lost a Cup Final. They'll be back, and hungry.
