Teams calling Detroit about Hossa

It's probably all for the best if Hossa doesn't re-sign. He never fit in with any of the Wings' centers. His play with Filppula was decent at best. Much of the production from the Mule-Fil-Hoss line came mostly as a result of the chemistry between Fil and Mule.

We won the cup without Hossa, and replacing Samuelsson with Leino is no loss. The only question mark is Hudler, which, if he ends up leaving for whatever reason, Holland will surely address with some scoring for the 3rd line. As long as Leino, Filppula, and Helm don't take any steps back, I don't see what the problem is. In fact, I'm of the opinion that the Wings suffered from having too many cooks in the kitchen this past season.

I'm honestly more concerned about Lilja not coming back.

We also won the cup with Samuelsson. And we also won with defense, something that was unusually inconsistent last year (especially the PK).

And when the defense did trip up last year, what helped us get through during games? The increased offensive output, The record-setting power play, the additional goal-per-game on average. Hossa was a HUGE part of that.

"Wings suffered from having too many cooks in the kitchen this past season"

I assume you are trying to refer to Hossa's ego here? ONCE AGAIN, All of the team, coaches, staff, front office said Hossa bought into the team system and philosophy on Day 1. They consistently praised his work ethic and said he was a great down-to-earth guy. They gave no indication of Hossa having ego problems or Hossa not wanting to do things a certain way. I don't get why everyone continues to cast Hossa as some egotistical, selfish prick.

Welcome to the cap-era ladies and gents. Every year, teams are forced to chose between their star players or their role players. Some teams can go through this and not miss a beat (Pittsburgh), others crash and burn (Buffalo)

ok, what exactly do we know abou this $4-$5 MILLION? Is that the actual salary or is that the Cap hit? If it's the actual salary for 10 years, then what, I wonder is the Cap hit? Because even if Abby stays in GRR, we still only have $2.3million in cap space after losing Sammy/Kopy/Hudler AND bringing up Helm/Ericsson/Howard and resigning Leino at $950,000. If $4-$5 million is the cap hit, someone around $3 million has got to go, in order to sign Hossa and be able to bring up Abby throughout the season....

...hmmmmmm, interesting....

To my knowledge, Holland was looking for a deal that would get a cap hit of 4 million. So that doesn't necessarily mean Hossa would be playing for 2 mil less than his asking price every year. On a long term deal, he could easily average around the 5-6 he's looking for during the first half of his contract

so, with that being the case, the Wings only have a cap space of $2.3 million left so, someone bewtween the $2 and $3 million range has got to go. More so the $3 million.

Is that before or after the potential Hossa deal?
