FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Since its now official that Hossa is gone, I feel that we should pursue free agents outside of our organization. I'm thinking Sammy and Hudler will move on, but it's possible that both remain Wings. I feel that the Wings need some sandpaper now that McCarty and Downey won't be back either. This leads me to Chris Neil. I think that he would be a great fit on the Wings. I believe he had more points then Kopecky and he's a tough customer. Neil would be a nice presence on our 4th line. Also, I think we should go after another player...Pahlsson. I think he would be a great fit on our third line and will play a good shutdown role. Some energy never hurts, and thats what we would get from these guys. It's also within the realm of possibility, as I think we could get them for around 1.5 or so. What do you guys think? MadMan Mark 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 I forgot about Pahlsson. . . not a bad idea, especially if he can be grabbed at a good price. All you hear from the media is how so many players want to come to Detroit. . . hopefuly, Holland is talking to some of them now.
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Pahlsson would be my top preference for a player we can afford. Neil will be over paid where ever he goes. Edited July 1, 2009 by 10 Minute Misconduct
MadMan Mark 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Wings not one of three teams talking to Neil, according to TSN
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 I would LOVE Pahlsson on this team. But I don't know if we need another centerman. Neil is not worth it for the money he wants.
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Chris Neil is definately the no.1 guy I want Detroit to sign.
FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Pahlsson would be my top preference for a player we can afford. Neil will be over paid where ever he goes. Yes, it looks that way. He just turned down a 1.7 million offer from the Sens, but it seems to me not very many players like playing there. If Neil couldn't be had at 1.5 or so, then I agree that it wouldn't make sense to pursue him. We are spoiled as Wings fans cause its expected that you take a pay cut to come play for us... Just for kicks... Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Filppula-Cleary Pahlsson-Helm-Leino Neil-Maltby-Draper not too shabby...
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Yes please to both if it is possible. Neil for obvious reasons and I have always liked Pahlsson. I think Pahlsson could be a nice addition. We are losing a ton of goal scoring with Hossa leaving and possibly more if Sammy and Hudler go. It will be tough to find "replacements" with the amount of money the Red Wings have available. Pahlsson doesn't provide much offense, but he is an elite defensive forward. The Red Wings go back to focusing on defensive principles and winning games 2-1 instead of 5-4 during the regular season. Can you imagine Z, Datsyuk, Filppula, Franzen, Cleary, Helm, Draper and Pahlsson all on one team? Just my opinion, but that would be the best group of defensive forwards possibly ever assembled. Guest Shoreline Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) TSN just mentioned the Wings are not one of the 3 teams out for Neil, but they're probably wrong since the Wings once had Probert. The Wings absolutely need Neil. And Boogaard. Edited July 1, 2009 by Shoreline

He's great at faceoffs and one of the best defensive forwards in the league.
FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Also, since the Hawks just added 5.2 million in Hossa...that could mean that Pahlsson is not coming back. Maybe Pahlsson wants to play with a bunch of Swedes?
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Pahlsson would have to play as a third line center.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 I'd love Pahlsson as well. Him and Helm on the third line is deadly. Plus, if they could get him long enough to mentor Joakim Andersson, who many have said is a Pahlsson in the making, that would be quite something.

Sign Pahlsson, forget Neil. I'd rather have a good penalty killer. As for "losing a ton of goal scoring with Hossa," he was a no-show in the finals when it counted most. In the regular season, 40 goals was great, but the euro-twins were fine without Hossa the year before when we actually won the Cup. I'm not a Hossa-hater at all -- I hate to see him go -- but the Wings will be fine without him. I'm quite happy to see space made available to showcase the young talent: Helm, Leino, Abdelkader. And good riddance to Kopecky. Chicago must've been blackmailed by Hossa to agree to a $2.4M with Kopecky. He was as worthless as a screen door on a submarine. ~ Z

titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 How many times does it need to be repaeted that Holland and Babs already said Abdelkader is in GR for the year? Might as well sticky a locked thread with that title. He is pretty expensive for a Red Wings rookie.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) How many times does it need to be repaeted that Holland and Babs already said Abdelkader is in GR for the year? That does not change a thing. Abdelkader in GR just means Wings have about 4,4 million to sign 3 forwards (and that does not even count in Lebda and Meech, with them Wings have only about 3.5 to sign 3 forwards). It seems to me that we have roughly 4 million to work with, and Abby will be in GR this season. I was suggesting Pahlsson or Neil because we could realistically sign one or both of them without running into serious cap issues. I was trying to be realistic here. Some people are suggesting that we trade Rafalski, Kronwall, Cleary or Filppula or that we sign Jay Bow or something like that. That's delusional, and won't happen.
