redwingcapt 52 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 There is a young tough guy with the scoring touch named anthony stewart from the FLa Panthers. He kind of resembles a dan cleary. he was a top prospect a couple years ago and didnt live up to his total potential. now FLa isnt giving him a chance. the wings could pick him up on a 850-950K contract 1-year and give him a shot. Plus i laugh at the black hawks. they signed him to a 12 year deal. nice and dandy...what about kane, toews, and kieth....for next years signings.. plus that 70+ point producer rookie Kris Versteed is a restricted FA. count on him NOT being a hawk next year. they will lose him on an offer sheet. they will be a contender this coming year with that potent offense and yound D squad. but the following year will only be a playoffs team to make it as far s the conference finals and flame out
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Versteeg is RFA, no s***! Stewart would be a nice Traverse city invite! I don't think the need to offer him a contract ahead of time is really necessary, as in the Cleary situation.

Opie 308 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 I agree, he would be a great invite, I was more thinking out loud with the contract statement, not assuming you meant offer him one!

RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Heck, the Hawks spent a ton of cash, but they really aren't that much better for this coming season. They lost Khabi and are left with the super streaky Huet.. They replaced Havlat with Hossa (different styles, but they cancel each other out in my book, though Hossa is more likely to remain healthy).. They replaced Pahlsson with Madden. Kopecky is a depth guy/fourth liner.. and they've handicapped themselves come next season when they have to start resigning their youngins.. These signings aren't as big a deal as everyone is making them out to be.
xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Some players i think Detroit will take a look at, not necessarily sign, but might offer a contract or have a convo with are. PJ Axelsson - Older Swede, Alot of new faces in Boston. Could be put on the Helm/Cleary line, Or the Drapes/Malts line. And Do relativly well. Also his brother is still within our system. That might entice him a little. Dean McAmmond - Great speed, Tons of heart. Not the most durable of players, But the speed and head aches that Dean and Darren could create. That alone gives me the jitters Blair Betts - Rumored for us to be interested in him at deadline. Now he's available for us in FA. He would offer us a 4th line center, And would make it possible to move Draper up to the third line wing role instead of 4th line center. Todd Marchant - I think we saw how dominant Todd is defensively this past offseason, If we could get him to take a relatively length pay cut compared to his last contract, He'd be a stellar fit. Michael Peca - Old Edge Veteran, Lost a step or two, But would compliment Draper and Malts well. Stephane Veilleux - Would come cheap enough to play 3rd or 4th line minutes. A very unselfish player. Not the most offensive gifted or physically emposing, but i think he'd fit in well in detroit. Travis Moen - He would fill a huge gap in our team, and thats toughness. No he isn't an enforcer but if he can fight at the right times 5-6 times a year for us, He would instantly be worth the money. Ontop of having relatively good feet and solid hockey sense, He's worth it. Physically emposing, The whole reason why we signed Randal Gelech was because we wanted him to be a Moen player, Well nows our change to get Moen. Taylor Pyatt - Stuck in vancouver where alot of pressure was put on his shoulders. In Detroit he wouldn't be forced into situations. or forced to play above what he can be. He would be a solid 3rd line player who can be moved up to a scoring line. We lost some size, He could bring some size. Not overly physical, But can stick up for himself. - Notable Enforcers Still Left - .Brian McGrattan .Andre Roy .Brad May .Tom Kostopolous .Andrew Peters .Josh Gratton

RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Please, no Peca.. We already have Draper and Maltby... Peca would be redundant. If he was 5 years younger....maybe Last thing we need is to get OLDER...
xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 I'd love for Detroit to get Moen for the 3rd line, Bell for the 4th line and Roy as the 13th forward.. That would mean no Huds or Leino, So i'd take Moen(1)/Bell(2) and then Roy. But that is all wishful thinking. I could seriously see Detroit taking a good hard long look at Dean McCammond though, He's a wiley vet who would fit in perfectly. I also wouldn't mind Peca for our 4th line with Drapes and Malts. Obviously it wouldn't be exciting at all. But Peca is a veteran who is good on faceoffs and plays a good 2-way game. If an injury happens, he wouldn't be overwhelmed with more ice time like a youngster would. With that said, I'am also very content with Abdelkader. Sadly, He's the only GR player i think is even close to ready. Ritola is garbage imo.

And I am holding out for Moen,if there is one UFA we sign (at an affordable price) this is the guy I'd like to see come in! Over ANYBODY else left. Well unless we can get Tanguay to sign for $2.0m! Now that is dreaming!
Superman54 91 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Moen would be awesome to have here, and Marchant impressed me in the playoffs, so I wouldn't be against having him here either. But both players may cost too much.
MaynardJKeenan 1 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 What do ya'll think it would take to sign Larose. On 4th. it says he is not signing with the Canes and they believe he has a deal in place already with another team. I think he'd be a good pickup for the Wings. Wonder if he could be had for less than 2 million a year. Moen would be a very solid signing also.
Pucks 66 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 (edited) my 2 favorite from that list are Travis Moen and Blair Betts Agreed both these guys are useful players. Maybe they want more than 1 million per though. Edited July 2, 2009 by Pucks

I watch a lot of canes hockey ( i live in raliegh) and Larose is Draper the younger, minus the elite two way play (larose is just above average) and with the same hands of stone. Larose would get like two or three breakaways a game last year and score maybe half the time.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Moen would be awesome to have here, and Marchant impressed me in the playoffs, so I wouldn't be against having him here either. But both players may cost too much. You do realize that if Marchant takes a 50% pay cut on his new contract, he's STILL overpaid, right? Marchant is comparable to Maltby. Decent defensively, good skater. There are only two differences. Marchant is a very good faceoff man, and while Maltby was never better than an average third-liner, Marchant was once one of the better two-way second line centers in the league (55-65 points and very good defense) but both are, at this point, decent fourth liners. On a good day they could be considered this liners. I wouldn't mind Marchant as a Maltby replacement at Maltby's salary or less if Maltby (or Holmstrom) retired, but not in addition to what we already have as far as aging forwards.
