Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283634 Pretty much, if filed invalidly, Barker, Versteeg, Eager, Fraser, Johnson and Brouwer could become unrestricted free agents.

Guest mindfly Report post Posted July 3, 2009 How can they be filed invalid/incorrect? can anyone elaborate a bit?
bonan78 1 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 Ouch, that would suck for them if they are ruled UFA's because of a technicality. Especially if any of them sign elsewhere, they basically get screwed out of compensation. Oh well, couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 How can they be filed invalid/incorrect? can anyone elaborate a bit? I think because the players didn't receive qualifying offers before July 1st?
wingsdiehard13 33 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 It sounds like they will end up fine, but I can't help but laugh.
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 We could sign Ben Eager pretty cheaply...he'd do nicely as a 4th line grinder! (his salary was $650,000)
Glubki 17 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 I did a similar thing with with my Netflix account - I ordered some movies late Thursday night to watch tomorrow and Sunday and forgot all about the postal Holiday; now they won't arrive til Monday. skyphoenix 153 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) I wouldnt mind signing Ben Eager if he becomes a UFA. I dont think getting Versteeg is a likely possibility. Edited July 4, 2009 by skyphoenix
Casey 145 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 How can they be filed invalid/incorrect? can anyone elaborate a bit? The Hawks should have offered qualifying offers before July 1. Since July 1 was a holiday, the listed ones didn't get the offers, so they technically should be UFAs. Kind of a technicality, but the rule is the rule. Probie 7 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 Looks like the hawks are self imploding in the offseason. I love it. WHo ever is running things i hope he stays there forever. The hawks were starting to worry me for next year, but after the last few days I feel better

Probie 7 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 Rules aren't always the rules... **cough**Malkin -- game 3 -- mandatory suspension waived off**cough** Plus the tie down rule too, thats an auto game too. He has two things that get anyone an automatic game suspension, and minutes after the game I read on nhl.com, that he isnt going to get suspended. Thanks bettman, I bet he wears penguins underpants to bed, autographed by Cindy Crosby
HawksFan4Life 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 Just because you become UFA's don't mean you still won't resign with your old team. Eager, Versteeg, Barker, and Brouwer I'd like to keep. Johnson and Fraser could walk for all I care. I mean, it'd be nice if they could stay, but no great loss if they don't. The other 4 it is imperative we keep. But Dale should've sent in offers sooner and thought about the whole Canadian holiday thing first.
Jeff M 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 Now's our chance to get back at them for signing Kopecky and Hoss. I mean they could have signed Havlat or Gabby, but instead they sign two Wings? Weird it's almost like they did it on purpose, O wait, they did. But seriously I wouldn't mind trading some players picking up Versteeg and Barker. :rotflmao:

Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 they're all probably gonna sign with the hawks, but with the wings "needs" i can't believe no one has mentioned to get troy brouwer. that kid can play, and he's f***in' tough

HawksFan4Life 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 Maybe not all 4. But, here is who I'd say from #1-4 in terms of priorities. #1 Cam Barker- can't just rely on Keith and Seabrook. Besides, maybe Hjalmarsson is just promise, but won't be as good as we thought. #2 Kris Versteeg- good scorer, but we have that. He certainly made his rookie mistakes in the WCF. #3 Ben Eager- never hurts to have a goon. #4 Troy Brouwer- nice rookie campaign, good 4th line player, but he's not better than the other 3. Snazzy 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 That's all we need. Havlat and Gaborik no doubt can play hockey, but can they stay healthy consistently? Though I am a little reluctant about Kopecky, I like the Hossa and Madden signings. Kopecky was our worse player on the Red Wings. He was a body to fill for the price we were paying him. You guys are over paying him. Hossa was a good signing but it appears your team has actually getting worse instead of better. I read that your GM may be shopping Sharp (and maybe even Kane) for a defenseman defenseman. You already lost Bulin (which I think was your key at taking your team to the WCF next year) and Pahlsson who seemed to be a much better upgrade over Kopecky. Havlet was injury prone but he produced in the playoffs, Hossa's playoff performances have been less than stellar... so if the Stanley cup is your overall goal, you're team significantly downgraded. Though, you guys may just get more regular season points than us, but that's hard to say because of your goaltending issues...

Though stats are comparable in terms of points per game and all that other stuff, Hossa is hailed by the papers as an upgrade over Havlat. Tallon would be crazy to shop Sharpie. His contract expires in 2012, and we got the guy for peanuts. He was a steal. Kane? No way. There would be fire Tallon protests everywhere. As for Pahlsson, he is being replaced by John Madden. The only plus I would give to Pahlsson is that he is younger. The Stanley Cup is certainly the ultimate goal for me. You never know. Huet was iffy, but he did show promise when Khabby was out in November-December and filled in well.
