newfy 695 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 People forget that Ericcson hasn't been playing defence all that long. Now that he has teh coaching he does in Detroit and a full season watching Lids play his game could really take off. He has all the tools to be a poor man's Chara at this point. Booming shot, good puck mover, size and a bit of a nasty side. Hell if we're lucky he could end up just as good as Chara or pretty close
mmamolo 287 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 I really think Ericsson has a ton of upside. He moves incredibly well for a guy his size, he has a bomb from the point, he can move the puck and he doesnt take s*** from anyone. I really think that over the course of the next two or three years we're going to see him turn into a stud on our blueline. I think him and Kronwall are the future of our blueline as it stands right now with Stuart remaining a solid 3/4 guy.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 I'm more worried about Ericsson's overall defensive ability. I feel like his offense is fine. He used to be a forward. This year, more than anything, I'd like to see him shut down anything that comes into the Wings zone.

His defense was strong in the AHL and it must have been tough to adjust to the speed in the NHL. WIth such little time I think he did very well and it should only improve this year with a regular spot in the line up. Ericsson is one component of the Wings this year that definitely does not worry me.
