PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 “We’re not doing a traditional model here, people should figure that out. You look at the pre-cap rebuilding jobs, you look at Ottawa and you look at Pittsburgh, and basically the philosophy was, ‘Let’s finish dead last or next to dead last for 4-5 years and get top picks and we’ll turn it around.’ I don’t see any reason to repeat that here. I don’t think our fans here would be that patient. As long as they see a plan, I think they’ll be patient for a retooling, but not a demolition. “Stripping down to the chassis and rebuilding it is certainly not what ownership has asked me to do. We’re not rebuilding here, we’re retooling.†awesome quote I dont get the Senators jab .. Were they bottom of the basement before their cup run? Rice 42 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 It's not really a jab; it's the truth. The Senators sucked for a long time but compiled some high picks and got competitive again.
xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Yashin #2 Pick Daigle #1 Pick Bonk #3 Pick Berard #1 Pick Phillips #1 Pick Hossa #12 Pick Chouinard #15 Pick. They had 5 years of picking in the top 3, and 7 years of picking in the top 15.. that is what Burke was getting at.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 (edited) Haha... looks like some Eastern Conference teams are gonna be s***ting their pants next season. Gonna be interesting to see a Western Conference team play in the Eastern Conference all season (I still consider Toronto a Western Conference team). Not to mention that Pronger has a whole new conference full off opposing fans to 'win over'... the East is gonna be fun to watch this season. I predict we will see a lot of pouting from some Eastern Conference teams this season. Edited July 7, 2009 by Broken
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 as much as I DONT like Burke, I have to give him props for what he is doing in Toronto. He has made some great moves and Toronto should be very competitve next season. LOL! All while Pitts gets worse! I love it! Would LOVE to see a Detroit/Montreal or Toronto Finals! Might not happen for a few years, but that would be great!

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 I'm starting to like Burke and the leafs... Perish the thought. His candidness is certainly a refreshing change of pace, though.
Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Perish the thought. His candidness is certainly a refreshing change of pace, though. I like a player/GM/etc more and more once they leave the conference....and the team that I cannot stand.

And the goal scoring is going to come from....? He's already said that the top priority of his "plan" is to get tougher, then he will worry about goal scoring next. Never a dull moment. NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 I reinterpreted "as long as they see a plan, I think they'll be patient for a retooling" as "as long as we goon it up and get at least 5 fighting majors per game, the fans won't notice the fact that we lose most of the time". Philly (Emery, Laperriere and Pronger) and Toronto should be fun to watch. Here's to hoping for a Emery-Fleury bout.
