newfy 695 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Okay I know people are getting sick of these name threads but this is one person that I was wondering would maybe be on the wings radar. He's a young guy, hits, fights and agitates. I know Holland said he wants a gritty 4th line type well this guy can skate and still handle himself. Since he's young wings could sign him short term and then give him alonger contract if it works out. What do you guys think?

stillwater 186 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Okay I know people are getting sick of these name threads Enough said. Pretty difficult to get past 1 goal in 55 games ... as a center. Osgood has scored that many goals in a season.

Oh I didn't realize that a team has to be stocked with goal scorers from top to bottom. Sorry about that I thought good team were well rounded but I guess not their 4th line should be stocked with goal scorers. My bad. Oh and yeah i guess youre right we do need to replace that 4th line scoring of Kopecky cause that 19 points in 79 games is huge comapred to Mccormicks 12 points in 55. stillwater 186 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Great post! Oh, what the hell are you replying to, precisely. I didn't post any of the things you're apparently taking umbrage to. He's a RFA. Are you suggesting Holland give him an offer sheet?

Are you suggesting Holland give him an offer sheet? Youre making it seem like 12 points in 55 games for a 4th liner is a terrible thing. I'm in a pissy mood right now thats why it came across a little harsh. And no he wasn't given a qualifying offer by the Avs so he became unrestricted. stillwater 186 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 I didn't even say anything about this "12 points" that you keep going on about. He and Ozzie have scored the same amount of goals in 1 season. Ozzie did it in less games. You're correct though, he is UFA.
Snazzy 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 We have this kid named Oulahen in the AHL right now that'd be a solid 4th liner. He HAS to play or we'll lose him like we did Quincey. Nobody likes losing quality players for nothing. Regardless, our 4th line is set. We could use a solid 3rd liner to fill either Hudler or Sammy's spot. As of right now the only guys that could potentially fill those spots is Helm and Leino. Part of me thinks Helm will be a fine 3rd liner with his speed. Wings are still pretty damn deep when you think about it.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Eh, he's kind of a moron. s*** talking the Wings only to watch them score 5 goals on his team during the playoffs.

Ozzie did it in less games. You're correct though, he is UFA. You make it seem like just because he doesnt get points or score goals he's not good enough for a 4th line role which wouldn't be true. I'm not sure if thats what youre trying to say but thats what its coming across as. I said the 12 points thing to compare him to Kopecky whose role on the team he would be replacing and to show there isnt much difference at all.

I'm pretty sure I saw him listed as a free agent on nhl.com could be wrong though
stillwater 186 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Are you trying to pimp Kopecky as a decent 4th-liner, that McCormick replaces, because it's pretty unanimous around here that Kopecky blows. And, he scored more points that McCormick, and no, it's not all about the points. But, you need to be able to play a little to make the Red Wings lineup, right. I'm all for a fighter, but he must be able to play some hockey as well, right?
RedFX 48 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 What does he contribute besides fights? Can he be a shutdown penalty killer? If there's an injury, can he take more minutes and contribute consistently? There's a difference between a gritty, defensive forward and an enforcer.

He's not some heavyweight meat head that goes around looking for fights all the time. I'm not on here preaching about how we need a team full of goons in teh first place I never said that once. I think we need someone who can lay out some bodies on the 4th line and play a regular shift. Being able to fight is a bonus. Mccormick averages about 10 minutes a game which is a good amount of ice time for a 4th line player

BigWillieStyle 662 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Mccormick averages about 10 minutes a game which is a good amount of ice time for a 4th line player 10 minutes on a very weak and very injured Av's team this year. He was often up on the 3rd line due to lack of quality players. I like the toughness factor, but he wouldn't be any more effective than Downey would and he can't crack the lineup either. And, I think we all remember the fight he had with D-Mac in last years playoffs. Not anything impressive in my opinion. I don't think Kenny will buy this one. And, I think we all remember the fight he had with D-Mac in last years playoffs. Not anything impressive in my opinion. I don't think Kenny will buy this one. His fight with DMac was pretty uneventful. Here's Darren's take on it: "I think it was fairly even,'' McCarty said. "There were punches thrown, a lot of missed punches, lot of rust. It was good for the fans.'' McCarty enjoyed it, too. "That's one of the things that I try to bring, playing physical and standing up for my teammates,'' McCarty said. "If the shoe was on the other foot, I'd probably try to start something with them. That's just the way hockey is. I was just there to answer the bell.'' God bless you, Darren. Anyhow, Cody McFarmall? I like him. He likes to crash and bang, and he can hold his own and not be a liability. I wouldn't jump up and down if we signed him, but I would be pleased. He would help keep me awake during Wings games in Fall and Winter. Might just motiovate the others to hustle a bit more too. As a fighter, he's not great but he shows up. I have him beating Koci. He's pounded Ott on a couple of occasions, which while no great feat, is something Lilja failed at. He also beat-up former Red wings super Heavey weight, champion of the league enforcer Corey Cross. PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Disrepected the Octu pie therefore cursed .. no deal also I see allot of "he played 10 mins a game" .. he might have , but that was on a 2/3 ahl club .. The Avs have been god awful and its no suprise he got 10 mins . hell our 4th line last year would have played 15-20 for the Avs...
