Since Pittsburgh entered the league in 1967, how many Cups do they have? 3.

We have 4 in the last 12, including one where we abused Pittsburgh.

Geez, I hope you are a history teacher.

Also ask them to do the following math problem:

x = 4 + 3

y = 2 + 4

y ?> x

Then laugh when they ask what x and y represent.

As you can tell from my name I am a Wings fan in Pens country ( I live in OH 40 minutes from Mellon Arena). All my friends are Pens fans as well as everyone else here. But I make it well known that I HATE Pgh teams. My dad has HATED pgh sports since the sixties. ( I can't stress the HATE enough.) So it's how I was raised. Needless to say I didn't answer the phone or leave my house til just a few days ago.

But in late August I will return to my teaching job at a high school full of 16-18 year old pens fans, who i trash talked endlessly all year. Then it will all come back to me and it will be June 13th all over again...at least there are other ways by which I can make their lives miserable.

Well, judging by the Pens fans that come on this board, good luck teaching a bunch of morons sentenced to work in steel factories. Beef up your resume until you can move to a more pleasant city or at least anywhere that has more pleasant people.

Or laugh when they ask what icing is; or when they claim that the home team supplies the away team's equipment and thus tampers with it.

Tell them all that if Pit wins the Cup again this year against Detroit that you will give them all an A.

Then wait to see how long it takes before someone realizes that the next SCF isn't until next year, by which time the grades will be out.

Why would you have anything to worry about? We've met twice in the Finals and are 1-1. You should have as much ammo as they do, even more since when we beat them it was total domination.

Not really, I'd be willing to bet that most Penguins fans under the age of 16 think that the Pens won the Cup in 2008 judging from the commercials showing only Pens highlights from the '08 Final :P

a more pleasant city ? Pittsburgh is always very, very high on the list of livable cities in the U.S. And Halloween is always celebrated quietly here. Trashing steel workers, blue collar workers being the backbone of the hockey fans in this country ?! titanium, your post was totally without thought.

1. Pittsburgh's bandwagon fans aren't the backbone of hockey fans in the United States. Is that you, Gary?

2. The comment was out of line, but it might give you a glimpse of what Red Wings fans endure when opposing teams come here simply to trash the city of Detroit's economic woes, which have nothing to do with the actual hockey team. Detroit's 'burbs are also among the best places to live; Ann Arbor was recently voted the 2nd best city to live in in the country. Let's both stay away from making jabs about our cities/economy and focus on the hockey teams.

If anything, you should trash talk more.

Look at the facts. Lidstrom has what would normally be a season ending injury, Datsyuk, a Hart Nominee was out, Lilja out, Rafalski and Stuart were both hurt, Hossa was hurt we now find out.

The only people on the team who as far as I know were near completely healthy were Zetterberg Helm and Osgood.

Allll of that, and Pittsburgh still got taken to 7 games.

in 42 years of existence, Pittsburgh has managed 3 cups. If the Red Wings were founded in 1997 we'd still have more.

near 20 years of consecutive post season appearances vs 2 cups in the early 90's before lapping at the balls of mediocrity stocking draft picks for years, and finally winning one in the late 2000's

Developing players instead of drafting phenoms.

Anyone can tell you who the better team is

Can you ask them where the cave was located that all the Penguins fans migrated out of on June 14? I never saw this many Pens fans around Virginia, not even DURING the Finals, but as soon as they won it seems as if 1 in 10 people are suddenly die hard Pens fans. <_<

I think that you should give them the assignement to estimate the probability of the following event happening at the same time:

1. The Pens having no significant injuries to their top 5 players.

2. The Wings having significant injuries to 5 of their top players.

3. The Pens winning game 7 on the road against Washington

4. The Pens winning game 7 on the road against the Wngs.

5. The #1 team in the east losing in game 7 at home in OT.

6. The league scheduling back-to-back games in the finals.

7. The league not enforcing their instigator rule.

Now of course with probabilities you then multiply each one together. The conclusion is obvious, the Pens won the lottery not the Cup.

I get tired of hearing this excuse, has it crossed your mind that it has something to do with the age of your team and not just some stupid bad luck, cry babies, all of you !

Sorry, but you're ******* retarded.

Lidstrom is pushing 40, so fine, I'll give you that one.

Pavel Datsyuk is 31

Dan Cleary is 30

Rafalski is 34

Brad Stuart is 29

Ericcson? 25

Holmstrom is 36.

By the way, looked it up, and apprently Zetterberg was playing with a bum wrist. He's 28.

Pens got lucky. That's all. Stating a fact isn't "crying".

Late 20's to mid thirties is not old, which you were implying. If you think it is, it only shows how young and stupid you are <3

That's why you never trash talk...

...with your own students. Unless it's just good natured ribbing on occasion it's not a big deal, but come on. This ain't a Pens/Wings thing here -- I don't care what hockey team anyone roots for -- as a teacher be an adult and show a little more professionalism instead of trash talking with the minors you're supposed to be teaching, and then going and posting on the internet about how much you want to make them miserable just because they don't root for the same team you do. They're kids under your supervision, not fellow adult hockey fans you're up against in a bar or at a game.

I was thinking this also about the original poster but then I said to myself that I have faith in him to the right thing and then read his last sentence "at least there are other ways by which I can make their lives miserable." now am not so sure.I hope he was kidding. I don't take hockey nearly as serious as many do here..... a group of kids being pens fans.wings fans would be all the same to me.We all get carried away with our home teams passions as it should be but we shouldn't hate, not even come anywhere close to that.

Yeah, Lidstrom's testicles ripped open from age, not the butt end of a stick being slammed into them.

Datsyuk's leg injury and ankle injury? The merciless puck of aging slammed into his ankle and taught him a lesson about not committing seppuku on his 29th birthday out of shame at being so old.

And Rafalski's herniated disk? Not a injury related to a sharp twisting motion when he got out of his car, but rather the age old right of passage one must experience when they turn 34.

Lilja's concussion? At first glance one might say- hey that's because his face was smashed in in a fight and he suffered head trauma. What an ignorant first guess. That concussion happened when he was reaching for his centrum silver in the top cabinet of his antique medicine chest.

Cleary's severe groin pull? Duh-- injured it waking his great grandson to school before driving 40mph on the way to the practice rink, complaining about dang rap music the whole way.

Hossa's torn rotator cuff? All part of being an elderly f***. Happens all the time to old people, they're dropping like flies from torn rotator cuffs.

You got it Dan-- those geriatric f***ers all would've instantly healed or not been injured at all were they but 2 or 3 years younger like some of your players. *sigh* If only we had the magical resistance to injury granted to Crosby and friends by their powerful state of youth.

That sequence was beautiful, efficient and absolutely brutal.

Pardon me? Did you think he was Mr. Smith teaching at the Mormon Tabernacle?

I'm sorry, but most kids will learn a lot more from a teacher whom actually engages them in their interests outside of the boring subject at times.

Or are you a teacher who sticks 'dutifully to the curriculum' each and every year and slowly developing bitterness because teachers like the OP are the ones getting all the great letters from ex-students?

Give me a break - a good teacher can find a common thread with his students (hockey) and can actually develop a repoire with them... as much as he might truly hate the Penguins.

Exactly, Red Wings fans do not need to feel guilty of looking like "Whiney cry-babies" for stating facts. This takes nothing away from Pittsburgh who played well above their means, came through clutch and took advantage of every opportunity thrown their way. And they needed it; the Red Wings were easily the better team in 2009 and if the Penguins did not take advantage of every single stroke of fortune dealt their way it would have been their 2nd straight loss in the Finals. But the fact is the Penguins won and that is what will be remembered... except a few old stodgey bastards amongst us, who will pipe in at every oportunity, and that is definitely within our rights.
