Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted July 27, 2009 Not to mention that agent jenkins has horrible capitalization and punctuation skills...and there seems to be a very large sperm cell swimming towards him. As far as replacing Hudler goes, I don't think we really will replace him. We won't replace his points, so we'll just have to settle for getting someone who can defend well enough to prevent an equal number of points to what he would have scored. Or something like that. Watch out for that sperm Agent Jenkins!

Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted July 27, 2009 So we lose Hossa, Huds, Sammy, and Kopy. 88 goals. Flip and Cleary now move to full time top-6 roles; should equate to increased production. Someone, looking like Stuart or maybe Ericsson, will inherit Sammy's PP spot; judging from when Rafi was out in the playoffs, either can likely do it fine. We add Helm and Leino, who will certainly produce something. I think 40 goals is a reasonable expectation from all of that. (20 from Flip, 25 from Cleary, 6 from Stuie/Ericsson, 8 from Helm, 12 from Leino...+8+11+6+8+7=40). More or less equal to Huds+Sammy. The rest of the roster should more or less balance out with what they did last year. Then 2 more forward spots to fill. Literally anyone can replace Kopy...so one forward to add, to replace Hossa. So do we really need a top 6 guy or 40 goals? We had the best offense in the league, 3rd in goal differential, even with a sub-par defensive performance. I think we can afford to lose some goals. And with a little extra intensity we should be able to cut our goals against down. We could do fine with a solid defensive player that can add 10-15 goals. We don't need a top 6. Furthermore, we can add multiple 3rd/4th line guys for the price of one top 6. That gives us better depth, and also the possibility of saving some salary for a deadline move. Erik327 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 (edited) I've got to say Grier is our best bet. He's consistant, gritty (ala Dallas Drake), and a hometown boy. Bertuzzi wouldn't be bad, but he's got that issue with the poor timing on his penalties, and his chemistry with our squad is questionable. Peca? Nope. Brings little to the table. Anyone think about Mats Sundin? He stayed faithful to Toronto for a cup run in 07-08, and didn't want to be traded anywhere (not just Detroit, ANYWHERE). By 08-09 he was out of the picture due to Hossa's early signing w/ us, therefore he couldn't even CONSIDER coming to Detroit. Now he's a UFA, and if he'd like to end his carrer with a cup, now would be a good time for him to take a paycut and join the Wings. I'd love to add Sundin if he was willing to come cheap and doesn't hold a grudge against the Wings. I know he didn't want to leave TO, but he did reject a deal we had in place to aquire him in 07-08 (thankfully! I'm not sure who we would've had to give up but we obviously didn't need Sundin that year)
newfy 695 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 We need POINTS...We do not a "project", a fourth line centre, a guy with some potential or a goon. I don't want any of these guys. Perhaps on the team we had LAST year, Id be into Malhotra but we need a Kessel or a Tanguay. We lost three guys who put up a ton of points- Hossa (71), Hudler (57) and Sammy (40) and nobody on that list has been proven capable to do that....even if they are playing next to Flip and Mule. Get rid of lils and free up his 1.3, use the 3 mill we were gonna pay for Huds and sign Tanguay to a 2 yr deal. Eaves?? Really guys?? Has it come to this??? We don't have cap space for a scorer like Tanguay or Kessel. Hossa we knew we wouldnt have back, Sammy is a 3rd liner, 40 points is easy to replace. Bert put up 44 last year while playing physical. He could be a good possible replacement. Hudler is a one way PP specialist who played 10 minutes a night. He is not a huge loss to this team if we can bring in a decent 2 way player that can still put up points but play both ends of the rink

HudlerFanatic 4 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Yeah we should sign another soft 5'9 player who doesnt show up in playoffs or play defence to replace Hudler. That would help the team out way more LOL.....
mmamolo 287 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Well there are definitely some options out that that can be fit into the Wings current situation. With Prospal now available due to his buyout from Tampa he could fit in. I personally think Bertuzzi could fit in. If Sundin cam cheap enough he coudl fit in. Or you could go the route of getting a Mike Grier. Hell i even think Shanahan would fit in. THere are a lot of options out there for Holland. It just depends what direction he wants to take. I'm really starting to like the sounds of Bertuzzi coming here. Sure he takes bad penalties but the guy has put up solid point amount the last few years, is still a freight train and is willing to fight on occasion. I see him as an upgrade over Hudler really.
