Cap hit left- or possably more?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

According to Cap Geek we now have $1.319m left which includes Abs. Could we now say that Abs will indeed be starting the year in GR, easing up a further $.85m for the cap. If Kenny was to be so bold and trade Meech for picks, another $.483m becomes available.

We now sit looking at having a possable $2.652m to play with. Not sure but that should

be enough to get us a bottom end top 6 forward at least.

Before I get carried away, can someone inform me as to how Liljas salary goes if he is put on

LTIR, can we add his whole salary of $1.25m to the $2.652m which would give us nearly £4m.

I wonder what trick Kenny will perofrm next? Prospal and Roy for a combined £2.5m? Now that would put me at ease till Oct.

It's my understanding that if he is placed on LTIR, his whole salary does not count against the cap. However, once (if) he returns, then I believe it gets re-applied to the cap. Does the whole salary get re-applied? I would say "no", but I am not 100% sure.

I don't think Meech gets traded. . . I think it may be Lebda who will be odd-man-out. If Lilja goes on LTIR, I don't believe anyone will get traded.

I don't think Holland is finished yet.

I believe if a player is put on LTIR, the days that he is on IR do not count against the cap. So if a player is getting paid 2.5M/season and is on LTIR for 35 of 82 games, then 1.065 of that 2.5 should not count against the cap. 35/82= 42.6% 42.6% of 2.5M= 1.065M.

At least that's how I understand it. Someone more educated on the matter may very well prove me wrong.

Pretty much, except that they continue counting against the cap, you just are allowed to 'exceed' the cap by that amount (assuming you are at it). So team against the cap in the above situation would be allowed to exceed the cap by the 1.065m.

I found some info on the LITR-situation.

Long-Term Injuries:

A player expected to miss at least 10 games and 24 days due to injury can be listed as a long-term injury (LTI).

An LTI can be covered by replacement players, as long as the replacement salaries do not exceed the salary of the injured player.

If the replacement salaries would push a team over the salary cap, the team is allowed cap relief, but only for the portion of the salary that exceeds the cap.

When the injured player returns, the team must immediately comply with the normal terms of the salary cap.

The other thing that has to be considered is that you have to leave a little bit of cap space available for injury and trade situations. You have to have a little flexibility there.

Meech (or Lebda) won't get traded until Lilja is back and playing. I think Holland has all but said this and that's why he hasn't traded a defenseman yet. If Lilja is put on LTIR Meech will be the #7 dman. And I would think Lebda would get traded because I think he has more value since he actually plays.
