Red Wings to hold 'Hockeyfest' on August 29th

The Red Wings held a "fan fest" last year, and they're cranking up the admission price but adding autograph sessions, a concert, and more Q and A's this time around (per DetroitRedWings.com's Lisa Hickock):

August 14, DetroitRedWings.com: As summer cools off the Red Wings, in partnership with Coca-Cola and FOX Sports Detroit, are heating things up for the 2009-10 season with HockeyFest 2009.

The action begins on the floor of Joe Louis Arena Friday, August 28, from 3-10 p.m., with a special free session for families experiencing economic hardships, and Saturday, August 29 for the general public from 1-10 p.m. Red Wings season ticket holders are welcome throughout both days, plus an exclusive early session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

HockeyFest 2009 is Hockeytown's premier interactive fan experience, featuring appearances by Red Wings players including Dan Cleary, Kris Draper, Jason Williams and more, an exclusive Q&A session with Wings players and management, alumni autograph sessions, hockey memorabilia exhibits, photo opportunities with the Zamboni and Al the Octopus and much more! Band favorite Bazooka Charlie will be on hand to fire fans up beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets for Saturday, August 29 are just $20 for adults, $10 for children (12-and-under) and free for kids under three. Fans can purchase tickets at the Joe Louis Arena box office, DetroitRedWings.com, and by calling TicketMaster at 800-745-3000.

For Friday's complimentary admission for families experiencing economic hardships, provided by Coca-Cola, tickets will be available in-person beginning Tuesday, August 25 at the Joe Louis Arena Box Office, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy and Hockeytown Cafe.

Last year, Jim Nill, Steve Yzerman, Kris Draper, Ken Daniels, and Gordie Howe were among those who gave Q and A's...

I attended the season ticket holder session last year on Saturday morning and did enjoy it. Left with Steve Yzerman's authograph. Draper was suppose to be there but Kopecky showed up instead.

I had hoped they would have the Red Wings play the Tigers alumni like they did a few years ago. I enjoyed that. Unfortunately, the Tigers are playing at Comerica Park the weekend before training camp.

Went to this last year, my daughter and I both got our Yzerman jerseys signed. He also signed my dads hat. We also got Bud Lynch's autograph and a few others. Almost had Gordies but he was slower than Stevie and he quit just before he came to us. Other than that it would have been a little lame, more of the players should have shown up. There weren't really that many people there on Saturday when I went.

your dislike of jason williams is borderline cartoonish.

<_<

You think its bad now? You should have seen it when he was on the team before. Search for some 3 year old topics and you'll see ;).

But yea, I wholeheartedly can not stand the dude.

Let's hope the Jason Williams haters will walk right up to him and tell him that he sucks and they wish he never came back here.

I highly doubt anybody in here has the guts to do that and get best (EDIT: meant to say past, not best) being an Internet Tough Guy and mellowdramatic about Williams.

My advice is to get in line ASAP to tour the locker-room. We were first in line last year and had no wait. I noted that was the line that got the longest and people had to wait.

Did you get any autographs/ get to meet anyone of note?

Yes, we got Steve Yzerman's autograph on his jersey. The only active player in attendance was Kopecky. We went to the season ticket holder (morning) session. Some more advice would be not to wear a jersey if you want autographs. It's easier to just pass it to the player when there are a lot of people around him. Will say it sounds like more players will be attending this weekend. I declined season ticket holder passes and not am regretting it. You will have fun.
