Why not? He would offer less so he wouldn't give up as many draft picks and its not like theres any huge superstar RFA's to save an offer sheet for. I doubt he would do it but not because he doesn't want to waste an offer sheet on a solid 3rdliner.

Generally, in order to get a player by means of offersheet, it requires an offer that the other team would not match..........aka it would mean the Wings would have to overpay a third liner. Thats just a silly use of an offersheet, and something a GM like Holland wouldn't do.

2011-2012 Detroit Red Wings will lead the league in all-time team penalty minutes, fighting majors and fewest goals-against.

You heard it here first.

We can dream I guess...

The year: 1995/1996

The Players: Matthew Barnaby, Brad May and Rob Ray

The Stat: Combined for 917 minutes in penalties.

2008/2009 Detroit Redwings

The Stat: Entire team, 26 players, combined for 798 minutes in penalties.

In case anybody wonders, the 95/96 Sabres as a team combined for 2181 PIMS!!!

I miss the Kocur/Probert days. :(

s***, I miss the Kocur, Rouse, Ward, Pushor, Lapointe, McCarty days. When is the last time we had a guy who was as tough and willing as Bob Rouse!

BOB FREAKING ROUSE! At least he manned up. And was a regular. How much is it to ask for somebody like that anymore?

A-fricken-men!

Back then it was damn near required for any Canadian kid to learn how to defend himself, or a teammate; guys like Rouse, and Jamie Macoun were the norm...Today we see guys like Crosby ***** to the refs to ensure their justice

dude Crosby is the face of his franchise he should never have to fight...but he still does occasionally and he's shown some balls IMO to step in for himself or teammates if necessary

I think better examples would be: Brad Stuart, Jason Williams, Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby

Ahhh GST? I think you forget how bad our penalty kill was last year. ;) Although I suppose killing off that many PIMS (they can't all be fighting majors, can they?) would've helped tune the kill for the playoffs.

I have to agree with you. The Pens don't need Crosby's hands to get banged up fighting. That's not why they're paying the kid nearly 9 million a season. Leave the fighting to 3rd and 4th liners.

It is pretty disappointing that a guy like Stuart isn't a fighter, though.

No - cry babies.

Anyone remember guys like Clark, and Gilmour?... When s*** went down - they'd man-up...Simple as that. None of this running to the refs to complain.

Like, Yzerman, right?

Oh wait, Yzerman dropped the gloves ONCE. He has also been kicked out of a game for bitching at a ref. Is he a crybaby too?

Not to pile on, but - you know better than that, right?

Lidstrom fought only once (hit the ice pretty quick as I recall), figured out that he sucks at it and never fought again.

He should lose his Canadian citizenship for that.

Do you understand my point? (I'll retract the one fighting major, I only remember him fighting one time back against Buffalo.

Captains don't have to fight to be considered great leaders. His entire premise was that Crosby was a whiner for going to the refs instead of dropping the mits.

Let's not forget that Yzerman played with: Probert, Kocur, McCarty, Lapointe, Shanahan...

Irrelevant. Crosby played with players like Talbot, Laraque, Rutuu, etc.

The Crosby is a whiny baby crapola is getting old.

You'd think a kid from western Canada would be dropping the mitts from time to time.

Especially a kid that plays the style he does. He's one of the biggest hitters out there but his gloves are cemented on. Cleary has shown he can go but he never did either when he was a 3rd line guy. After the jaw though I don't expect it out of him now.

Its too bad about Stuart, he had 3 fights one season. I don't expect guys like Cleary and Stuart to fight often but tough Canadian boys should be able to answer the bell everynow and then.

In all honesty I'm surprised Stewie doesn't get challenged more often after some of his big hits; same can been said of Kronwall.

Yeah I've only seen Kronwall get challenged a couple times and really they weren't invites to fight they were kind of he didn't have a chance to oblige. Byfuglien after the hit on Havlat and I remember him getting swarmed against Nashville by some guys after a big hit on the way to the cup.

After that hit on Umberger this year I can't beleive anyone even looked twice at Stuart. Talk about laying over and dying for Columbus.

Yes I do, and I agree with your point 100%. I just didn't agree with the Yzerman misstatement. Yzerman actually did pick the occasional fight, drop the gloves and attempt to fight backwhen jumped (rather than turtling), etc. His heart didn't pump Kool Aid.

I get sick of the Crosby=whiner stuff too. If his whining were as awful as some here say it is, then it would almost certainly irritate the refs, and end up being counter-productive. We should applaud that, especially when we're playing against him. Crosby might just go on to retire as not only a better player than Yzerman, but perhaps a better Captain as well. It isn't likely, but it isn't impossible. Wings fans tend to forget the mistakes of young Captain Yzerman. When young he was very human.
