GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted September 2, 2009 i hope when we play them at the joe he gets a standing O A standing ovation for a guy that played three minutes a night when he actually did dress? Granted the circumstances are way different, but some fans boo Sergei Fedorov and he was one of the greatest Red Wings players ever.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted September 2, 2009 Still carcillo is far more of an asset, and im talking in weight class. Downey goes to check Seabrook... gets knocked out, Downey is one dimensional Carcillo is a better player, but he's not an enforcer, thus you're comparing two players with completely different roles. It's like saying that Iginla is better than Downey too. Also, what is this incident with Seabrook that you're referring to?

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted September 2, 2009 I very happy for Downey and I hope he does alright this season. As for a standing O, well I hope he is cheered but a standing O is a bit over the top for the guy. He deserves some credit but he is not Yzerman. Good for him,Phoenix was looking for a tough guy.I hope he's in the lineup every night in Phoenix.I can see him getting a standing O at The Joe for some reason. Broken 16 381 Report post Posted September 2, 2009 A standing ovation for Downey!?! Why? He's never really factored into anything with the Wings.

Guest micah Report post Posted September 2, 2009 A standing ovation for a guy that played three minutes a night when he actually did dress? Granted the circumstances are way different, but some fans boo Sergei Fedorov and he was one of the greatest Red Wings players ever. The boo Feds because often, his attitude sucked and his dedication to the team were suspect. They will cheer Downey because his attitude was great, and his willingness to do whatever the team asked of him, including rot in the minors, without complaint. He was also the only wing in recent years willing to fight big scary guys for the good of the team, and sometimes for no reason other than the crowd's enjoyment. People appreciate that sort of thing. Fans at the Joe tended to cheer louder for Downey's fights than they did for Franzen's goals. Downey will be cheered if he ever plays at the Joe again, at least until he puts the hurt on some Wing - I doubt many will rise to their feet for it though. jollymania 162 Report post Posted September 2, 2009 Downey got "knocked over" by Seabrook not "knocked out".... guess he doesn't know the difference lol 2 years ago he was going to hit seabrook and did get dizzied he came to the bench with wobbly legs, but that wasn't the only incident where he went to check someone and got owned, that was just worst case. jollymania 162 Report post Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) Carcillo is a better player, but he's not an enforcer, thus you're comparing two players with completely different roles. It's like saying that Iginla is better than Downey too. Also, what is this incident with Seabrook that you're referring to? For the record I wasn't saying they were similar I was actually pointing out to the original person who compared them that they had different roles which they obviously do and I already mentioned them. And the incident was 2 years ago in chicago downey goes to hit Brent Seabrook and gets the worst of it, he gets "dazed" not like what havlat got or anything. edit: one of these though harder and Downey was coming at half speed like he does on all checks and he got downey right in the chops, and seabrook did not fall down: Edited September 2, 2009 by jollymania

Possibly, but not incredibly likely. Standing ovation? Hardly. Was Dmac cheered after his first return to the Joe (as a flame)? McCarty was a much bigger piece in Detroit than Downey was. I'm pretty sure he got a roughing penalty but not 100% on that part.... there was no "wobbly legs" as he came to the bench... nice lie though
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Funny how everyone says that Downey wont be cheered when he comes back, every game he played he was the fan favorite, you cant argue that, it's hard fact. Detroit fans loved Downey while he was here, and I wish him all the best.

skacore 2 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 how could you remember it if he didnt get his s*** scrambled, otherwise it would have been a routine hit, either way, it was a terrible play by downey because Downey was 1 of the few players I cared to watch last year so I remember most of his incidents... and I checked dropyourgloves.com as well to reconfirm and my review was identical to what I said before... yeah he got knocked over, hard, who cares? he got up and ran right back and Seabrook... he was never dazed or "knocked out", lol

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Who gives a s*** about momentum? It swings around like crazy, Downey was one of the few who actually threw checks in a regular season game, when you get clocked, if you get up right away and nothing happens, momentum doesnt change, Chicago were a bunch of useless plugs that year, and werent going to get up and cheering over an enforcer getting knocked down. Seabrook smoked Dan Cleary over the f***in boards in the winter classic in front of MILLIONS.....he gave momentum to Chicago... let's make sure that is mentioned when Cleary signs his next contract cause its so relevant...... clown
Guest micah Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Pavel Datsyuk is supposed to be this great forward, right? Well, once I saw him take a shot and it completely missed the net! Also, I saw him slip and fall once against Nashville, and the crowd started the "ice is slippery" chant. That's why Pavel Datsyuk is the worst player in the league. Also, I saw him slip and fall once against Nashville, and the crowd started the "ice is slippery" chant. That's why Pavel Datsyuk is the worst player in the league. And this is why you are one of the worst posters on this board. Good attempt at disproving others clouded logic with whatever you call that attempt at sarcasm, whilst still managing to dog on one of the best players in the league. You notice one of the people you are talking about played in nearly 100 total games last year, one played in what 6. One was mentioned in the Hart/Pearson/Bing/Selke conversations, one wasn't even talked, other than this board, since last June! I thought you were finally off of this "I hate Pavel Datsyuk" thing. Aside from pointing out the obvious I wanted to add that I hope Downey lands on a team in the NHL, he is a hardworker and from what I have read a one hell of a person (never met him), he just didn't fit on ice in Detroit. I think he is best served on a young team, a team with a real young enforcer that he can mentor. Either way best of luck and hopefully there is a link someday in this thread stating he is on a team! A dirty play (running at the goaltender) is much different than a missed shot. EVERY player has missed shots. 2. My argument that Downey did have a dirty play once in his career is not disproven by this statement.
