topsideplaya 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 With Frolov an impending FA after this season the Kings seem willing to trade him this year. I think the Red Wings should seriously consider putting a package together to acquire him and depending on how the season goes, offer an extension. With alot of contracts coming off the books after the season we will have some cap space to sign our own kew players and give Frolov a fair contract. Here is what I've come up with to make this work....... Waive Maltby and Howard then trade Holmstrom Emmerton Meech Mursak 3rd round pick for Frolov LA recieves two solid prospects with 2nd line potential, a puck moving defenseman that they need and Holmstrom can be a nice mentor to some of their younger players along with the pick. Backup goalie I would either offer Cloutier a 500,000 contract or offer 600,000 to Gerber, Fernandez or Nittyamki. Depending on which way we go we will save some money and we upgrade this position albeit just a little. This is the roster we end up with Cleary-Zetterberg-Franzen Frolov-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Leino-Filppula-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves 13th forward Jeremy Williams Lidstrom- Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Lebda-Ericsson 7th D-man Andy Delmore/cheap FA pickup Osgood Cloutier/Fernandez/Gerber/Nittymaki P.S. NONE OF THIS WILL EVER HAPPEN BUT IT IS FUN TO DO
TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Sounds like a great idea to me. Frolov would be a great fit with this team. I would love for this to happen. Just not so sure it will though. Edited September 20, 2009 by TheDetroitRedWings

Lamothe 5 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 I wouldn't trade Emmerton or Mursak, but the rest sounds pretty good to me.
Zata fan 40 6 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 They would not waive Maltby. And I highly doubt the Kings would want Homer(even though I doubt the Wings would trade him either)since they just aquired Smyth who plays that role. And Gerber is in the KHL making far more than he would over here. Giving up way too much for Frolov. I like him,but he is way too hot and cold of a player. He is usally between 55 -65/70points. If they do it for draft picks and maybe a lower end prospect I would do that. But
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 Get smaller and less experienced for the playoffs! Sounds good to me. Not. Frolov would be a nice player to have, but if the Wings want him, they should wait till next offseason. Holmstrom's contract is up then, and so is Lidstrom who will most likely see his salary drop by at least a million. Not to mention Bertuzzi and Williams will be UFA's as well. I can't remember the last time the Wings traded a regular roster player - not to mention the calibre of Holmstrom DURING the regular season. Holland doesn't seem to like to mix it up too too much before the playoffs.
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Your not going to see Maltby and Howard waived. Also, you are not going to give up six guys and a pick for one player. As someone said, this isn't NHL 10. Edited September 21, 2009 by CenterIce
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 Maltby and Homer might retire after the season. Meech doesn't have much trade value. Frolov would be great here, but I don't see it happening.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 Holmstrom has said that this will likely be his last year (I seem to recall this somewhere...), so we wouldn't be able to trade him. I'd like Frolov here, and it's a possibility, but we'll see how this year turns out.

redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted September 21, 2009 why on earth would LA want holmstrom, any deal involving frolov starts with helm and abs, and no way they are going anywhere

I just think we could use a top 6 forward to play on Datsyuk's wing.

I have no problem, and I am not offended. I would love to be able to upgrade this roster, if possible. I am Red Wings first; players second. However, we live in the world of the salary cap, now. And, with the Red Wings near that cap, they have to work with their younger players that they have been developing in their system more than ever. They have to get these guys ready for when the likes of Lidstrom, Draper, Maltby, Holmstrom, etc. leave. Making a comment of trading six players, plus a pick for one player, doesn't fly. The Red Wings have to work with what they have.

P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted September 21, 2009 Holmstrom has said that this will likely be his last year (I seem to recall this somewhere...), so we wouldn't be able to trade him. I'd like Frolov here, and it's a possibility, but we'll see how this year turns out. I recall that there was an Mlive article where Holmström said that he takes one year at a time. His future depends on how healthy he stays. I think trading Holmström wouldn't be too good an idea as his Red Wings tattoo would look stupid at any other team's locker room. To hide it he wouldn't be able to shower. Although not showering for months would make his net-front-presence even stronger. How could any goalie concentrate on the puck when Holmström smelling like death is standing in front of the crease?
