P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 played.like.s***. Blues earned that one. We got overconfident and sloppy after going up 3-1. Somehow I prefer the second analysis.
drwscc 212 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Fantastic game, guys. Looked really sharp. Let's keep up the effort and stay positive. Ozzie looking like Jaques Plante out there, and Norris caliber defensive corps. 81-1 season coming up.
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Wow, just like last year, only turned up for half the game. Sadly - or should that be fortunately? - no Hossa/Sammy/Huds to help bail out our shoddy goaltending and defence. A few more losses like that and they might learn they can't get away with 30 minute performances any more. Credit to the Blues, they played real well after going 3-1 down, and behind out net they absolutely murdered us with their work and size.
thedatsyukian 7 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 played.like.s***. This is exactly it. We played like s*** while they played a great game. They played strong as a defensive unit with a confident netminder and just outplayed us but we get a rematch tomorrow. The chemistry Franzen and Datsyuk has is negated by their burden to carry Holmstrom. I think it shows.

I Red Wings I 40 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 You all have had a cake walk to the playoffs for the last couple of seasons, but this year is different. Chicago is better. Columbus is better. my Blues are better. This is going to be a very exciting division this season. You are going to need goaltending help. Thanks for the Conk. I hear the same s*** every year from Blues fans, there's always something. It was 1 game
EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Thanks for the Conk. Lucky bum. Take good care of him, you hear me? I swear that Ericsson didn't play towards the end of the game - I never saw him out there. Injury, or just benched? Apologies if this has been mentioned, but I don't feel like reading through 30 pages. He scored the first goal, went off in the first with skate issues, came back for part of the second and disappeared with an ankle problem. I don't know any more, unfortunately. Tommy_Like_Wingy 25 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 I blame all the jackasses who were ripping on the Hawks for losing to Florida in a shootout. Thanks for the bad karma. We couldn't even beat the Blues in regulation.
Yzermania 156 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 well things looked real good to start and then...well, the usual happened. Mason made some incredible f***in saves.
kidish 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 It was just one game, and the Blues had to work their asses off for it. I don't really think it spells doom and gloom for Detroit. s***, next game will probably go to Detroit anyway. It's a long season, judging everything by the first game isn't really applicable. And from my understanding, Ozzie didn't play much during the preseason, he needs a couple games to find his flow anyway.
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) It's always a good sign when the guys who score in a big game like the season opener are a 3rd-pairing defenseman, a 4th-liner on the PK and a 3rd-line rookie. Depth is great, but only when the top two lines produce. One thing I learned: Bertuzzi is good at catching high pucks. Vladifan 680 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Hudler would be the hero tonight. Alas...... I heard (I think) that Happy's already scored four goals?? Can that be possible?!
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 He scored the first goal, went off in the first with skate issues, came back for part of the second and disappeared with an ankle problem. I don't know any more, unfortunately. Thanks - I was streaming the TSN feed, and they failed to even notice he was gone, though they were very good at calling people by the wrong name. Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Good news is we lost our first game last year and look how we ended up. So we're not gonna win the cup this year either. Damn!
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Blues earned that one. We got overconfident and sloppy after going up 3-1. True story. Again, I think the Blues are going to surprise a lot of people this year especially if Kariya stays healthy. They're a good young team that knows how to work and Mason and Conklin will win games. Slabby 3 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Not to whine TOO much, but I thought the Blues got away with a lot in their own zone. They had backchecking forwards hanging all over the puck carrier. If you compare the defensive zone play, it looked like an old NHL team vs a new NHL team. Zetterberg was pretty bad. Defensively, he's fine, but you can tell he's really not used to his linemates. His passes were off almost every time. Leino was great. He needs a LOT more icetime than he got tonight, because he's a consistent scoring threat. He seems a lot faster than last season. Vladifan 680 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Well the Blues deserved that one, outplayed in every which way Agreed. Didn't get to see most of the first period, but our guys were out-hustled in all areas. HOWEVER. "After all. Tommorow's another day." GIT DAOWN, GIT DIRTY, GIT DRIVIN'!!!! P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 wow Osgood sucked so much it is not even funny. Blues should thank him for the first win. 15 shots and 4 goals 23 shots... Every defensive screw-up seemed to lead into a goal. The Kariya goals were tough shots by the way. But yeah, in the long run Osgood's SV% should be over .900.
