gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 I hear the same s*** every year from Blues fans, there's always something. It was 1 game I'm a Wings fan and I think the Blues are going to be a real good team this year. If they stay healthy and keep the work ethic up, they can compete with any team in the West. Snazzy 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Bad bounces and good saves by Mason. Wings didn't show up, think they still think it's offseason (after all they have played the most games in the past 3 years than any current NHL team - so I can understand why they are sleepy) Blues played like it was game 7 of the SCF and had to prove their worth. Blues brought their 'A' game and Wings did not = loss. Hopefully this is a wake up call for them.
Dynheart 42 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) Good ole Ozzie hate once again. I don't care if your the mother of all goalies a 5 on 0 = a goal. Top that with 3-4 useless bodies infront of you/screening you...that makes it even worse. Give the guy a few games to get it going...he is, after all, 38 years old. Also, he barely played in the preseason..kinda a bad move on the red wings part, but oh well. The wings as a whole were trying to be to fancy. It's like garbage goals are a bad thing to them. Trying tape to tape fancy set up passing isn't always the way to go. At any rate, it's 1 dang game. Wings will show 'em why they are the best team in the league tomorrow. gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Wow you got all that from one game? You're in for a surprise, but hey whatever makes ya feel better. Did you watch anyone other than the Wings the second half of last season? They were outstanding and now they've got Kariya back. This was no fluke. I'm not saying we can't beat them, but if St. Louis stays healthy, they'll compete with any team from the West.
Snazzy 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) You all have had a cake walk to the playoffs for the last couple of seasons, but this year is different. Chicago is better. Columbus is better. my Blues are better. This is going to be a very exciting division this season. You are going to need goaltending help. Thanks for the Conk. Wish I got .10 cents everytime I heard this through-out the years, I'd be so wealthy that Donald Trump would look like trailer park on welfare compared to me. HudlerFanatic 4 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 It's only the 1st game....calm down.....let them get used to playing with the new lines more than just in practice! Geesh! A little faith people!
Theophany 110 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Not to whine TOO much, but I thought the Blues got away with a lot in their own zone. They had backchecking forwards hanging all over the puck carrier. If you compare the defensive zone play, it looked like an old NHL team vs a new NHL team. Zetterberg was pretty bad. Defensively, he's fine, but you can tell he's really not used to his linemates. His passes were off almost every time. Leino was great. He needs a LOT more icetime than he got tonight, because he's a consistent scoring threat. He seems a lot faster than last season. Uh, no. There wasn't really anything that could have been called that wasn't. If they did, it would have been a nitpicky call. Zetterberg not playing up to par? Eh, yeah, I guess. You try playing with an injured groin, though. (I have news for you: that muscle is VERY involved in skating.) Leino is playing just like he did in the playoffs last year. We'll be fine. The Blues are a good team this year, and this game proved it. We need to tighten some stuff up, get Helm back, get Z healthy, and we'll be set.
Vladifan 680 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 wow Osgood sucked so much it is not even funny. Blues should thank him for the first win. 15 shots and 4 goals Good gawd.... PLEASE. Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Well, I thought Leino played pretty well.... Yeah. He still needs to keep his head up out there. But he was fast. Almost like a rocket compared to last season.
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 You didn't hear it from ME until this season. I'll be around for you to ridicule if this is not the case. And, I was discussing the division, not my team in particular. I think it's a widely known fact that maybe Nashville and Detroit are the only teams in Central that haven't improved from last season. That's just in theory of course. We'll have to see how things turn out.

EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Thanks - I was streaming the TSN feed, and they failed to even notice he was gone, though they were very good at calling people by the wrong name. No problem I wonder if we'll see Lebda-Meech as the 3rd pair in the next game. *whimper* I miss Lilja... and I never thought I would say that without a trace of sarcasm, but there you are... gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 I think the Blues are going to be real good as well, but to say EVERYONE else including the Blues are going to be better then the Wings based on one game is boggling a bit. This is not towards you of course... I put no stock in these games in Sweden. I'll start making judgment calls on the Wings about 10 games in once we gel a bit more and adjust to normal schedules. Osgood bounced back with a descent 3rd and when/if we get Lilja back it's going to help a lot on D as well. I still think there's a real good chance we'll struggle on offense though. Bert can score some goals when he plays, but can he stay healthy? Will he stay healthy? Will other guys like Cleary and Flip really step up and produce more or have they reached the ceiling? Will our kids have great rookie years or more typical rookie years filled with ups and downs and lots of lessons? Only time will tell. We'll be fine. We'll make the playoffs. We might be a 4th or 5th seed but we'll be in and that's the battle. I think there will be a 10 point difference between 1st and 8th in the West and I think just about any team that makes it in will have a descent shot at going the distance. Just the Central alone is so strong. It's going to make for a great regular season though.
_Gassoff 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Wow you got all that from one game? You're in for a surprise, but hey whatever makes ya feel better. That observation is independent of the game. The division as a whole is better. It's no longer the Wings and four inferior teams like it had been.

KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 I think we should let Zetts get back on a line with Franzen and let Datsyuk deal with Bert.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 That observation is independent of the game. The division as a whole is better. It's no longer the Wings and four inferior teams like it had been. The only thing that will keep a team like Columbus out is that they're in the Central. Detroit, Chicago and St. Louis are the best teams in the conference if you ask me (well, in terms of speculation carried over from last year, additions, etc...) and while Columbus will compete with them and win games, they'll lose more as well having to play them so much. Calgary and San Jose will go b/c they'll win their division, St. Louis, Detroit and Chicago will go, leaves 2 spots and teams from other divisions with easier schedules will put up more points than Columbus most likely. Vancouver will probably go and I think they Ducks are going to surprise some people too.
Snazzy 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Mason is why Blues won. Sleepy, droggy (SCF hungover) Red Wings is why we lost. Not a good combination... Red Wings will have no problem taking 1st place in the Central Division.

I myself predict the Wings to be either 4th/5th when the season ends. Just don't get the bashing and low blows to this team after one game. But then again we shouldn't be surprised anymore.
