redwashington2000 42 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 I seriously doubt the Wings "stopped trying". Don't forget, there was another team on the ice that had a lot to do with how well Detroit was able to execute. WOW just WOW how blind you are, your blues just got the wrong tactics "the goon tactics" you are not the next Duck's, say thank you to the moronic team of Detroit loaded with superstars that are taking everything for granted. Carman 387 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 Man, the underrating of the Blues is astonishing. The Blues are good. That's all I'm going to say. The Red Wing's didn't play well, but the Blues will be a playoff team. Also give Bert and Z a little more time, they are both coming off injuries and are new to each other. I really don't think they've been that bad. And I'm surprised I'm the only one on Holmstrom. He is really hurting Datsyuk and Franzen in the offensive zone, neutral zone, and on the back check. Seeing him skate his heart out on the forecheck to be beaten to the puck by 10 seconds is really getting old quick. I don't know what to do with him, but he hasn't improved much from where he left off in the playoffs...

Yak19 303 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 Wings were in the finals for 2 years straight, its hard to be motivated for a regular season game against the Poos after being at the pinnacle of nhl competition. I just hope our goaltending turns around and Babock finds a way to motivate our guys to play in the regular season as it may seem boring to them. GO WINGS! Meh, if we did well with Kopecky actually playing in games, we'll manage with whatever Bertuzzi decides to play this season. Obviously they play in different spots in the line-up, but for 1.5 million I'd rather have Bertuzzi then Kopecky. Btw I'd rather have Bertuzzi over McClement as well. That guy sucks. At least Bertuzzi is has a good playoff beard and might net 17-20 goals or give us time on the IR so we can have Abdelkader up more often.

Actually, if you count the Western Cup Finals... it makes 3 years in a row. That's a lot of games for our boys. Wings played more games the past decade than any other team in the NHL. The Red Wings have played more than 300 games in a row just in the past 3 years. That's insane! Edited October 4, 2009 by Snazzy

Don't forget, there was another team on the ice that had a lot to do with how well Detroit was able to execute. Good God. The inferiority complex that afflicts Blues fans is freaking hilarious. Have you tried therapy? You're posting on a Wings board, genius. Most of the comments will be Wings-centric, focusing on the performance of the Wings. Do you honestly believe that regular posters on this board are unaware that there was another team on the ice in Stockholm, and that we need whiny Blues fans to keep us from "forgetting?" Are you 12 years old or something? Perhaps you should go back to one of those absurd Blues forums, where your mates couldn't care less if the Blues win games against the Wings or anyone else. As long as the other team is lying in pools of blood and/or leaving the ice on stretchers, you clowns are happy. Small wonder the Blues have never accomplished anything in their 40+ year history. In all fairness to the Blues fans, their team played the 'A' game and relied on special teams to win. The Blues worked their asses off and had little room for error... they played the game of the life time. Remember the movie "Miracle"? The Blues were great. On the flip side, they barely won against a sleeping / droggy Red Wings team with a rookie goalie who played his first NHL game as the backup role. Both games were the Red Wings games to lose. They did, give some credit to the Blues... they had something to prove, Red Wings do not. They are still recovering from 3 long seasons. Rest assured, they will fear when they awaken a sleeping giant.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 Just got back from Stockholm. Had a ******* awesome time! Sure, it would have been nice if the Wings had played a bit better and maybe even won atleast one of the games, but it was still awesome just to see them play. The 1st period of Saturday's game was amazing, a shame that's the only really great period the Wings put together. Anyway, the highlight of my weekend wasn't actually the games. Me and my two buddies were walking around Stochholm in our Detroit jerseys a couple of hours before the saturday game, looking for a place to eat. Suddenly these two girls, who would soon find out were canadian, walk up to us and pretty much just tells us they're on their way to the Wings player hotel and ask us if we want to tag along. Like..uh...f*** YEAH WE DO. So we run to the subway, get on a train, go a couple of stops, run out of the train to the hotel, just as Chris Osgood is walking on the bus. I yell at him like an idiot "have a good game!", not knowing Howard would get the start. D'OH! Anyway, the bus was pretty much empty so we get into the hotel lobby and pretty much get to see most of the Wings team up close. I got my picture taken with Datsyuk (he didn't like it very much it seemed like haha) and Jiri Fischer (whom I actually managed to say a decently coherent sentence to, and what a nice guy he is!), and took a ton of pics of my buddies with guys like Kronwall and Daniel Larsson. Stupid me didn't have a pen, so the "only" autograph I got was when mr. ******* NICK LIDSTROM was signing a couple of people's stuff and I got him to sign my Datsyuk-jersey Such an awesome experience. The day before, right before the game, I saw Ken Holland walking around in the Globe arena corridors. I thought that was amazing. Little did I know that not 24 hours later I would be standing right next to Datsyuk, Ericsson, Lidstrom etc. If Dawn and her sister (whose name I didn't catch in all the commotion) read this, which I doubt since they were actually Senators and Canadiens fans, thank you so damn much for walking up to us on the street. Totally made our weekend.

Guest mindfly Report post Posted October 4, 2009 What I also noticed was that there were TONS of americans and canadians at the game and before the game walking in the city you heard alot of english, conversations about hockey etc, and the blues had fans in the middle of the lowerbowl probably around 100fans straight off a plane from missouri and they were much louder than the wings fans...It's too bad the globe arena is so bad for hockey games, it's good for music concerts and stuff but not hockey, you get so far away from the ice even if you have the front row tickets. Yeah it's difficult to get the crowd going in the Globe. People were trying to start chants but it didn't stick. The arena was probably at it's loudest when Sundin appeared, and during the 1st period of that game. There wasn't a whole lot to cheer for other than that though. Walking around Stockholm these past few days was great. Lots and lots of hockey fans, mostly Wings fans but a surprising amount of Blues fans too. I hope they do this again in Stockholm next year. Even if it's not the Wings again, I'll probably go just to be a part of the whole thing.

As long as the other team is lying in pools of blood and/or leaving the ice on stretchers, you clowns are happy. Small wonder the Blues have never accomplished anything in their 40+ year history. Look buddy, I've been posting here a lot longer than you have. And I know exactly where I am. This being a Wings forum doesn't give people carte blanche to say stupid things. I've been a member here for a long time, and if I see someone post something stupid, especially about the team I root for, then I'm going to call them on it. And I did so in a respectful way. You should try it some time. If you don't want to be reminded of there being another team on the ice, then maybe people shouldn't make comments like, "the Blues didn't win those games, the Wings lost them." That was a stupid thing to say. Sorry, but it was. The Blues earned those victories. To belittle their effort just to make yourselves feel better about losing, is pathetic. The sooner you realize that, the better. And your comment about Blues fans not caring about winning...huh? what? That's just stupid. After that comment, it looks like you're the 12 year old...if not, your 12 year old impression is spot on. Congrats. You'll have it mastered by the time you actually turn 12. Blues fans live to beat the Red Wings. We hate the Wings so much, it's like a playoff game to us every time we play. And it doesn't make a damn bit of difference if Wings fans feel the same way, that has nothing to do with it. The hate is primarily between Blues fans and the Wings players. If the Wings come back and win the season series between the Blues and go on to dominate the Central again, then ok, you can make a case for the Wings not being prepared or playing very poorly or whatever you want to say to get around giving the Blues credit for playing well and battling from behind. But until then...your team just got flat out beat...twice. And you know, I'm sorry the Blues aren't Disney on Ice for you. Hockey is supposed to be a rough game...and the Blues play a physical style. I know you're not used to that style in Detroit...so I forgive you. Have a nice day.

They got Calhoun to do the PA work because he has never missed working a Blues home game since he has had the job. So technicaly, he would have missed a home game had he not done the game. But I think Calhoun does a great job. He's one of the best in the business...so it's not like they brought in some ****** to do it. And come on...the crowd was by far pro Red Wings. There were some Blues fans there, but it was heavily in favor of Detroit. If 90% of the fans are pulling for one team, that team essentially has a home game. The Wings essentially had two home games. The PA announcer and a graphic on the jumbotron don't cancel out 90% of the crowd being Wings fans.
