The new, new lines...

Have you watched the games so far this year?? Bert doesn't hit, he doesn't drive the net much, he doesnt get involved after the whistle and he doesn't make the little plays to keep the puck alive for Hank and Pav. He doesn't deserve to play with them until he starts working his ass off like them. As far as I'm concerned Cleary needs to play with Z and Pav. He has earned it and he is very smart with the puck. He also has the patience with the puck that Bert doesn't. Bert really does play like a 160lb softy out there...

I say put cleary on the top line, Williams back with Fil and leino (he did look good with them) and put Bert on the 3rd line with Helm and Homer.

What did Helm ever do to you?!

I thought he played pretty well for only playing with Hank and Pav for one day. I mean, at least let the lines get acquainted before you jump the gun and criticize Babcock for throwing Bertuzzi on the first line. I think the team as a whole played pretty well last game.

I like Bert on the top line. Why not try it? Can't hurt.

I thought Bert did great with Dats and Z.

Two things I know, keep Dats and Z together, keep Filp and Leino together

I am really excited about Helm's return. This guy creates chances and wears down opposing players.

Until something fails, we should be taking a look. I mean, come on, we are looking for a 3rd linemate for Dats and Z. I like Holmer, but give Bert a chance and keep Holmer fresh for PP.

I think that's a given, based on past performance. Leino and Fil really proved that they belong in the top 6, and do we really need to talk about the Euro Twins? It's a given that they'll produce, being on a line together. Hell, they'd produce if they were the only two on the line.

The main concern then, is plugging wingers in on those lines. Bert on the first and Cleary on the second works, but I'm concerned about Homer on the third line. When Helm is back it shouldn't be a problem, but if Abdelkader is still centering that line and Williams is the other wing, Homer seems to be a liability.

Maybe I am crazy but I think Bert has looked very good thus far.

He has. He could throw the body more, but with his past injury history he's probably just playing it safe. As the season goes on I bet he gets more physical. He is holding his own out there, though, and I think he could really benefit from playing with the Twins. Also, they could benefit from his presence, as well.

Bert is driving to the net, doing the little things. It's only 4 games into the season, Datsyuk and Zetterberg have't racked up points, either. Is it time to write them off as well?

Bert plays just as rough as anyone out there. He might not plant himself infront of the net like Homer but thats because he has the skillset to not make an NHL career out of that alone. If its based on how rough and tumble they play then Bert deserves it more then Homer.

I love this forum, a week ago I was "crazy" for saying Bertuzzi is a top 6 forward on the Wing's. Now after one good game it completely changes. For the money he is getting paid he will be fine, I'm sure Babcock will use him correctly.

Homer gets the game winner( was a nice top shelf shot too) in the Wash game and everyone is allover his nuts still. just quit it you embarass yourselves. he's actually got more goals than Z and D combined so far.

agreed... everybody likes finding all the negatives

It's Jake Ryan. Someone even makes a reference to Homer Simpson and it's "OMG HOMER IS LAZY AND HE SUCKSâ„¢ AND HE CAN'T SKATE AND HE'S NEVER BEEN GOOD AND I DON'T KNOW WHY HE'S ON THE FIRST LINE, HE SHOULD PAY US TO PLAY," etc.

Seriously, he's that stupid.

First, shame on whoever called Homer lazy. He's a lot of things, but lazy isn't one of them.

Second, Bertuzzi is not a 'tough guy.' Stop saying that. He plays like a 160lb-er since the incident.

Third, I don't like the new lines, because - as others have said - #1) Bert has the skills to contribute on another line, homer doesn't. #2) Bert isn't as talented in front of the net.

The only reason I do like it - it keeps homer fresher for the pp...it gives pav and hank a capable third play-maker.

Bertuzzi made his career high in goals by camping out in front of the net. he knows that area well and is as talented as anyone in that position. Remember, he was so good, teams were sending the NHL tapes of his moves complaining that they weren't legal. Just as a Canuck player was shooting the puck, Bertuzzi would bump a player near him to gain enough space to redirect the shot and score. He was tuff to stop.

I think he got tired of getting wacked all the time because he does'nt play that game like he used to.

I like the idea of putting him with Pavs and Hank.

This forum makes me wonder sometimes: do some of you even watch the games? It's like a lot of people just check boxscores and make determinations from that.

Bert has played well, and I thought he was good vs Washington. If you're looking for him to be a Holmstrom clone, you don't understand what Babcock is doing; instead of going with 2 scorers and a grinder, he has 3 scorers. Plus, Bert is an excellent passer, and he loves to do it, and that will make Datsyuk more selfish.

This is a smart idea because a big part of what is ailing the Wings right now is good pro-level scouting on the part of other teams. They box out the Wings players down low because if they don't have a rush, they WILL go back to the D to make the play. If you watch, every single team we've played this year (maybe with the exception of Washington, but even they did it at times) has done the same thing, and it's been very effective. With 3 scorers, it makes the top line more of a free-wheeling lateral passing line, and everybody can score. I'd put money on Babcock emphasizing Datsyuk QBing the power play from the half wall over Lidstrom from the point too.

For the record, I've thought Eaves has done a good job too. I'd like to see him get a shot up with Williams and Helm or some other third line combination.
