Not to mention Zidlicky wasn't wearing a fight strap and was put into a vulnerable posistion by Crosby because of it. And if you think Crosby lost that fight then you have a lot bigger issues then your completely skewed views on Crosby. By no means is Crosby a good fighter, but he did win that fight. Crosby was feeding him, I'm disappointed they broke it up, Crosby's growing as a player, he can kill penalties now, he fights every once and a while, and he's still a top 3 player in the league, incredible. Zidlicky is not starting to get punches off, he has his jersey pulled over his head and is swinging wildly. the refs did break it up fast, but that probably had more to do with not being afraid of being hit by a punch than anything else. It's not very smart for Crosby to fight. I guess it's good he's sticking up for himself, but he's taking himself off the ice for 5 minutes, and he's sure as hell not a very good fighter. Agreed. He needs to pick his spots, and that wasn't one of them. I read that he was just pissed because he got taken down in a way he didn't like, similar to when he injured his ankle, or something like that. Still, bad decision. He had less goals then Malkin and Ovechkin last year... Had less points then both of them last year.... Didnt even get nominated for the Hart last season... had 103 points? and was a plus 3.... Complete player my ass... a complete player puts the puck in the net.... and keeps it out of his... a Plus 3 isnt a defensive player.... Explain to me why he is a complete player... Taking him self out of the game for 5 minutes cause he is frustrated isnt a good thing... yes he fought and for once didnt jump a guy completely and no he was not sticking up for anyone and was not trying to make a statement... He did it because he was frustrated with getting owned cause he doesnt have malkin to help take the strain of him.... PPG+ playoff and regular season performer. Plays on the PK. Leading or at least tied for the top faceoff man in the league with Thornton. I'm just impressed with his ability to improve area's of his game each season. Not to say Ovechkin, Malkin or even Datsyuk can't be in the discussion it's just my opinion that I would chose him to build a team around. You brought up +/- well he is improving on that this year, it's still early but so far he has the best +/- of any forward. He is one of the best battlers along the boards in the league, it's hard to prove as that's not really a statistic, but's its something I really am impressed by. Now Crosby isn't at the defensive level of Datsyuk atleast not yet, but I haven't seen Ovechkin put the dedication into the defensive game yet in his career. That's all I'm saying. Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 (edited) I believe its because in such a close call situation with a lot of players you have to expect to get debated on the fact when you just claim a certain player flat out the best in all aspects ( "A complete player"). You may have not meant in all aspects especially with what you said about defense comparable to datsyuk. Its hard to argue the fact the Ovechkin isnt a better defensive player when he has had a better plus minus the past two years... which included a plus 28.... but you also have to count in the -19 that was 3 years ago... Another thing you have to realize yes Ovehckin has a good supportin cast, but Crosby has a better one.... Malkin feeds off crosby and I would much rather be feeding malkin then semin.... The biggest factor with the debate about Ovechkin and Crosby is the fact of defense, plus minus, and hitting.... Ovechkin racks up the hits night in and night out... and yes that will probably take a toll on him in the future but honestly I see Ovechkin as more complete player then Crosby.... Im not saying Ovechkin is the best in the league... but Ovechkin has better numbers in the defensive department.... no matter what the discussion will never be black and white... but when you make a statement like that people that disagree with post back... yes some dont do it in the most mature ways or use anything to back up what they say... but it happens... It is the responsibilty of the officals to break up the fight if a player is at risk... and a player being blinded by his jersey cause he didnt tie down his jersey is a risk of injury.... its fighting blind... that is why the fight was broken up... in my opinion.... crash Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Carman 387 Report post Posted November 2, 2009 (edited) When I say most complete player in the game, it was mostly a sarcastic comment to the OP for saying that a referee broke up the fight to protect Crosby which is about as ridicioulous as my statement. Anyways I think you underrate Backstrom/Semin. Penguins' top 6 is about equal as the Capitals' top 6, but Penguins' have a better 3rd and 4th line. +/- is not a very telling defensive stat in my opinion. If it was the Selke/Norris would be solely based on it. Ovechkin really only hits on the forecheck, which is important part of the game, and defensively I suppose, but once the puck is in his zone he is practically only responsible for a D-man, and breakout and that's it. Where as Crosby has to be the 3rd defenseman and win battles below the net, cover people in front of the net, anticipate cycles, battle clearing the front of the net, not to mention is required to be high in the offensive zone as well as be a integral role in the breakout. There is a lot more then just stats that have to do with defensive play, most of which can only really be understood through watching games(not saying you don't). I'm just one to pick a franchise center over a franchise winger any day of the week. And before anyone says Malkin>Crosby, I'm not going to argue with them, I just think Crosby is more consistent for the most part. In other news, I'm starting to ramble it's getting late, good night everyone and don't dream about running Crosby over with your car too much:P. I'm no real fan of his, he's certainly not the best player in the league, and he's not even the best player on his team, but he's one of the best players in the league. He's not ever going to be the big time goal scorer that was hoped, but he's a great playmaker, the rest of his game gets better each year, and if his career continues at this rate, he will be a hhofer. Remember these kinds of threads brings out the irrational folks as one respectable member here informed me not to long ago. I believe they are in the minority here (the irrational ones) If Ovechkin had beat them in the SCF's they would hate him almost as much.BTW I hope that Ovechkin and May are not badly hurt and will be back playing very soon.
